I don't usually seek out special editions but if I see a deal on one I pick it up and then unload my regular copy if I had already bought the game. The best SE I've gotten so far is the Asian Dragon Age Origins. The engraved wooden box is gorgeous.

So far the only one I've spent money on is the GTA IV Special Edition. I liked that it came with the real metal lockbox with keys for it. But thus far it's been a waste except for the game itself and the lockbox. The keychain, dufflebag, artbook and soundtrack cd are all either still sealed or I've only looked at them maybe 1 time since getting it.

The only one I really wish I had is the :360: Tales of Vesperia CE. I really love the game but I didn't move fast enough and now it's just too expensive. I also think it's criminal that S-E didn't do a big CE for :360: Final Fantasy XIII.

Actually there was a CE for FFXIII, just not in the U.S.

From these the only one I still own is Resident Evil 4. I never owned that many, but I learned my lesson about buying LEs since I really never used any of the extra stuff they came with.

Just off the top of my head...

Rainbow Six Collector's Edition for PC. It's a really, really nice big box with all of the games before the second Rogue Spear expansion pack. I haven't been a Rainbow Six fan for years, but this box is still the centerpiece of my PC area.

Record of Agarest War: The Really Naughty Limited Edition for 360. I haven't even played the game yet.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence limited edition for PS2. The really rare one. I even watched the movie that's exclusive to this edition. If you're going to watch it, just make sure you let it copy over to a VHS tape and watch it from that.

Metal Gear Solid 4 limited edition for PS3. The one with that slipcover with the metal front and the bonus blu-ray. I really like the image on the metal part.

Time Crisis 3, 4, and Crisis Zone for PS2 and PS3 might belong on this list because they come with the guns in the bigger boxes.

Sakura Wars: So Long My Love Japanese audio edition for PS2. I played the first chapter and felt like I thoroughly wasted 10 years of my life wondering how awesome it would be to be able to play a Sakura Taisen game. It was terrible!

Both N64 Zelda limited gold editions. I even saved the boxes. Majora's Mask has a holographic cart label, too.

Donkey Kong 64 limited edition yellow cartridge version for N64.

Sonic Adventure 2 10th Birthday Pack for the DC. Japanese import. Came with a CD, a book, and a commemorative coin all in a classy... thing.

I had about 5-6 of those at one point soon after I joined CAG. I think they were like $10-12 at Circuit City during some clearance sale in 2005-2006 and they were fetching $25-30 at FYE. I was tempted to keep one, but I bought just the game later on for $3-5 someplace and I was glad I didn't keep everything else since the game just straight up sucked.

Mana Khemia - I think it was CE unless all versions came with a CD and poster I think. Okay game, but haven't finished.

Guess i should clarify. I bought the set through ebay. Opened it kept the contents and sold the game. I bought the PS3 version shortly after. To this day i regret opening it. See as how there so rare and valuable i should be pimp slapped for doing that.:bomb:

The only limited edition I have is Doom 3 which still has an unused 2 month free xbox live card

Also I really liked that it came with Doom 1&2 because

1. It's doom
2. You could play them with a friend which is something that Doom 3 lacked (without xbox live anyway)
 
The only two CEs that I own are Alan Wake and Mass Effect 2, both for the 360.

I will be getting the Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2 CE for the 360 because I want the USB stick of Starkiller, and I think the steelbook will look nice next to my Ultimate Sith Edition of the first game.

Well, if you won it, you'd just be lucky. But actually buying it means you're a committed collector. ;)

It's certainly no Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter Edition, but the Fallout 3 Survival Edition is probably the only LE I've purchased that's actually worth $100; with Bioshock 2 and Assassin's Creed II (although lower MSRP) being not-so-close second and third.

Marvel UA Gold (non-Platinum Hits edition) isn't really all that valuable, but it's one of the toughest games for me to have found complete in the wild. That was a weird release; sandwiched between the regular and Platinum SE (which contains more content than the Gold).

I'll tell ya', along with others, dan13l858 has a real nice collection going too. Digital Devil Saga Deluxe Box SEALED is a really nice get as there are a lot of cobbled-together copies out there after the boxes and inserts started showing up on eBay. Sealed Bioshock LE and Mass Effect CE are beyond awesome. I see he's got a sealed Tales of Vesperia CE and Gamecube RE 4 as well .

I think I need to raise my game to hang with you guys. ;)

It's certainly no Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter Edition, but the Fallout 3 Survival Edition is probably the only LE I've purchased that's actually worth $100; with Bioshock 2 and Assassin's Creed II (although lower MSRP) being not-so-close second and third.

Marvel UA Gold (non-Platinum Hits edition) isn't really all that valuable, but it's one of the toughest games for me to have found complete in the wild. That was a weird release; sandwiched between the regular and Platinum SE (which contains more content than the Gold).

I'll tell ya', along with others, dan13l858 has a real nice collection going too. Digital Devil Saga Deluxe Box SEALED is a really nice get as there are a lot of cobbled-together copies out there after the boxes and inserts started showing up on eBay. Sealed Bioshock LE and Mass Effect CE are beyond awesome. I see he's got a sealed Tales of Vesperia CE and Gamecube RE 4 as well .

I would totally kill for the Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter's edition. There 1 tip i learned when buying any collector's edition. If it's a RPG game and it has a special edition, don't open the game or box set. If i want to play it, I usually find a used copy or just buy the retail copy version when it goes down. Probably my near misses in my collection was the World of Warcraft special edition and Dead Space special edition on Amazon. I wish i could go back in time and pick up those box sets. Also, i have to update my list because i found a copy of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne special edition in my room. It's opening but hey it comes with the soundtrack.

No need to step up your game. Your collection, as well as dan's, is more than impressive. ;) I really wish I had bought the ToV PE when it came out, but, at the time, I ended up buying Valkyria Chronicles instead. Still a great choice, though.

It's funny, while MUA Gold is only worth about $20-30, I just really want to find a copy ever since Activision took the DLC off XBOX Live. What's even funnier is that I don't really like the game either. Just a case of "I want cause I can't have it." I am indeed a strange individual. :roll:
 
While I enjoy CE of games, and will often order them over the regular editions, my favorite special edition game in my collection is my sealed Pontiac edition Halo 3 #640/1000 that I won from the pontiac promotion back at the release of Halo 3. Not that it's all that special...it's just the regular edition of the game with a cardboard sleeve over it that mimics the cover, and says 'you are one of the first to own Halo 3' numbered on the spine, and an ad for the pontiac g6 on the back, but it was a thrill to win it.

After the release of the game, I ran into someone that had also won a copy but didn't have an xbox, so after expressing that I was really into halo, he offerd to sell it to me for $40, so I happily took it off his hands :D that one is # 711/1000.

Why should you stop collecting them, though? I traded in my old 20GB for my new slim, and I have no intention of ever stopping my faceplate collecting. They just look so nice. ;)

I assume people will add them later... I've slowly been adding pictures to mine, but it's a bit of a pain to get pictures of them all. (Especially when my collection is split into a couple of different places)
 
I don't have too many of these, but it was enjoyable to upgrade my Persona 3 FES with soundtrack, Doublejump guide, and artbook. Another one I got locked away somewhere is the Final Fantasy 12 steelbook w/ the fancy guide thinger.
