I only have after pictures to post.

I used a 4mp HP camera and I have a 32" Olevia that goes to 1080i. These pics are I think 720P. Sorry for the blurriness

FF7: Not much of a difference, but the picture is more brighter and colorful than before. FMV are the same as before.

God of War 2 720p?

Okami 720P:

All in all the upscaling is noticable, but nothing grand.if anything, It now has the same resolution and Brightness/colorfulness as a CRT TV for PS1 game. PS2 games look a bit smoother now, but they are also a bit jaggier.
no smoothing on ps2 games? well i'm updating now, gonna test em on my 1080p set.
Oh, there is. I noticed a huge difference with FFXII.

As far as PS1 games though, I have a feeling it'll be a crapshoot whether to use smoothing or not. I'm guessing more often than not, the answer will be no.

Very hard to tell from these pics.
Your FFVII pics Marten though show a good job of smoothing.

I've seen some really good comparison pics over at NeoGAF.

It really does make a difference.

On my TV, the TV it looks about the same. But I have a small HDTV.
The effect is really optimal on larger HDTVs.

Enjoy it if you can.

I don't know if this has a "placebo" effect on me but I could've sworn my Viper looks better in GT3 using everything on with a component cable.

Silent Hill 3?
I never played it.

Definitely some good pictures, dallow.

What kind/size of TV? It seems that the reoccurring theme here is that larger TV's got the most benefit out of this update.

I was messin round with MGS2 and there is a definite Jaggy reduction :D cool beans.

The problem with widescreen is because the ps2 never did it properly. It basically altered the image rather than the resolution and you had to stretch it out with your TV.

and as for activating 480p on god of war, that'll just override the upscaling.

It looks good, but not as good as the previous pictures suggested with FF12. =( much sadness
pictures i'm referring to are here

I was about to try mgs2. jsut watch the openeing trailer and see if there si a difference.

Some one said the GTA games look alot better too. I wish I still had san andreas, but I may test out on GTA VC.

Here's a few more general eye candy pics to enjoy (taken from the gametrailers forum website):

GOD OF WAR 2 (before)

GOD OF WAR 2 (after)

DRAGONQUEST 8 upscaled

wow, keep on posting pics, I think I'm going to pick up a PS3 at Costco this weekend. The ones on store shelves still have the EE chip in then no?

Also, if anyone has Odin Sphere can you post pics of it running on 1.8 update

Yup, they have the EE.
Maybe its just me but the upscaled pictures look blurry (although smoother). Does anyone else think the same?
Nah, it's not just you. They look blurrier.

Please thumbnail any images that are posted in this thread. This helps CAG's bandwidth as well as the bandwidth of the image hosting provider.

I've only played around with the update for 15 minutes or so, before I had to leave for work. But...

Has anyone noticed any difference in screen format? Before the update, I could have sword than Downhill Domination filled the screen. Now it runs with black bars on the left and right sides of the screen. With component, I can switch my TV to widecsreen to remedy this. Not so with HDMI...

Use "Full Screen" upscaling rather than "Normal" for that game to fix it.
Remember, you can always just turn upscaling off as well.

Even though I turned off DVD and BD upscaling options in the settings, I can't seem to get Talladega Nights BD (the one that shipped with PS3) to display in 480p for comparison....Oh well...goodbye 480p, hello 720p! Running on a Dell 2001fp (non wide) monitor, taken with 7mp casio camera. Not the best movie (first BD out?) or the best scenes...but I thought the second picture really summed it up for me.

I played FFXII and I dont know if it is just me. But it seems like the jaggies are almost not really there. Before I was blinded by jaggies.

Not to be a stickler (because I agree that thumbnails are good), but if the image is hosted elsewhere, having a 10 megapixel image inline "costs" CAG as much bandwidth as having a 1k picture.

lol
So basically the upscaling makes games look just like they did on an old 480i CRT??

Nothing special about the upscalings at all.
You need to read a little bit more.
Nah, it's not just you. They look blurrier.
Yeah, I agree. Gets rid of the jaggies but also seems to lose a bit of detail too.

I'll have to do an eyeball test on GOW2.

haha

I saw him walk pass me and I was like "oh shit, the baywatch guy and damn he's freakin tall". Well, It seem like he was walking fast, so the people won't notice him. For the people who notice him (myself), he gave me an autographed half-naked picture of him, lol.
