What's that nifty looking dock-like program at the top?
That's part of my XP skin from www.crystalxp.net

Also called ObjectDock.

that reminds me I need to go get some DVD-R's to get that vista to work.

Here is my current:

Man. Compared to you guys, mine looks like a pile of puke. I am now too embarrassed to contribute to this thread for fear of barbs and guffaws.

Yes. My desktop is a beaut isn't it? ;)

Was wondering if I could get further help on customizing the desktops. Great info here, by the way. I managed to get a visual style up and running from CrystalXP, but I've got a few more things to figure out.

I've installed ObjectDock, but I'd like to change the skins of it to another one I downloaded. Where do I place the contents of the ZIP file in order to use them with ObjectDock?

And the icons for ObjectDock, do I have to download separate icons for other programs like Firefox and YM, etc? I noticed that when I drag and drop programs to ObjectDock, it transfers the same icon from Windows, but it's not really designed to be magnified like it is in ObjectDock so it's extremely blurry and pixelated.

Lastly, any suggestions for themes and icons from that site? I'm mainly looking for something really smooth and non-cluttered. A sort of glassy, minimalistic look. I'm gonna look through the site more later and I'd ask a few more questions on their forum, but thought I'd ask here first. Thanks.

And one more thing: Is there a program that does "hot corners" on XP like it does on Macs? Where you can assign the four corners of the screen to do things like show desktop, show all windows and start the screensaver? I guess I'm trying to turn my XP machine into an OSX clone so any tips on doing that would be great. Thanks again.

I know, how boring. I usually use just a black desktop cuz I need to optomize my computer as much as possible but it just got too boring.

My skin (Eminence) came in a folder, which I put in the Backgrounds folder:

C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Backgrounds

You should then be able to see the skin under the "tabs" menu in Object Dock when you edit or make your own.

What kind of skin are you running there?

Also called ObjectDock.
I like the ObjectDock skin you're using at the top. Any idea what the file is called so I can look it up? And what program has that dock/widgets on the bottom. That's not ObjectDock as well is it? Some of the functionality is the same (clock and weather), but the skin and icons look way different.

I dunno what the objectdock skin is; it's the one that came with the Vista Inspirat Windows theme. The name is has is Longhorn Inspirat CrysatlXP.net", so I dunno if that helps. I can search in a while once my fingers unfreeze. As for the icons, they're part of Konfabulator, now known as the Yahoo Widget Engine. The clock is the generic one with Konfabulator, as is the weather monitor, and the mail monitor is like Gmail Monitor, you'll find it under their Widget Gallery at http://widgets.yahoo.com/.

Edit: Dont mind the.....uhh...'other' stuff, I was making fun of mr. Orestes :p
I don't think you advertise your porn enough.
Yeah...i'm more discrete than that. I was just making fun of Orestes cuz he's a pr0n fiend :p

I dunno exactly what you mean by skin, but right them I just had objectdock and some konfabulator (yahoo widgets is a shitty name) widgets running and winamp.

The wallpaper is called pathogen and I've subsequently gotten rid of objectdock since it was pissing me off and started using RocketDock and the regular old start bar.

A little help with skins for ObjectDock:

I've downloaded a skin for it and copied all the contents of the files into the "Progams\Stardock\Backgrounds" directory. Now how do I change to that skin?

I was reading a forum post and it states for themes, you have to copy the ".ini" file to the "themes" folder and the accompanying images to the Stardock main program folder. I've done that as well even though what I downloaded what was a skin and not a "theme" (there a difference, or they the same?).

So, yeah, how do I load up that skin in Object Dock?

On your ObjectDock, is there a Docklet that says "Dock Settings"? If so, click on that, and at the bottom of the window should be a pulldown menu. If you extracted the entire folder into the "Backgrounds" folder along with the original background, the new one should appear in the drag menu.
