The Steam discussion topic! Joy and happiness, right here, folks.
So I go to the store pages for those free-to-play games, and it shows that 251 of my friends already own this game, and then I think, waitasec, I have 259 people on my Friends List.

Steam must really hate those 8 peeps.
Yeah that's dumb.. they should only show that for people who have it installed. I guess you don't technically own it if it's free to play.
Yeah that's dumb.. they should only show that for people who have it installed. I guess you don't technically own it if it's free to play.
That's weird because the games don't show for all of my people.

So I got a free code for a game that I already have on STEAM. I found out by putting it in and it told me I already had it. Can I now give out this code to someone else?

I would certainly expect so. I had bought a game on Steam through a group buy only to find that when I tried to enter the code I was told I already had the game. But I gave the code to someone else and it worked for them.

Sounds good.

Speaking of the hack, I am SO TIRED of sites getting hacked and having to change my password for every damn thing on the internet. Yes, I know I should use different passwords for everything, but who the hell has time for that? So I've yet again gone through and changed my password for EVERYTHING, because something has been hacked. Seems like about the 5th time or more in a year. REALLY getting annoying.

IN OTHER NEWS of things that annoy me, why is there no downloadable manual for Skyrim? If I pay $60 for something digital-only, I would at least like a digital representation of something that is supposed to come in the box.

Sorry, cranky. Got up super early to play Skyrim and I'm really thirsty and have to poop. :) All will be forgotten as soon as I boot it up I'm sure.

Get a password manager with browser integration so you don't have to remember all of your passwords. I use LastPass but there are others.

Thanks. Yeah, I might have to look into that to make this kind of thing easier.

Still can't find a Skyrim manual. I guess the manual would probably be pretty useless anyway though.

No one talks in this thread. Ummm, I want to talk about Skyrim.

300,000 people playing Skyrim on Steam at the same time. How cool is that? What does this mean? Does anyone think Bethesda will have Obsidian make another Skyrim, sort of like they did with Fallout: New Vegas? Because I'd love that. And then they could get right to work on Elder Scrolls VI! :)

I'm also hoping for LARGE expansion packs, similar to what Morrowind got. Shivering Isles was okay for Oblivion, but I thought Morrowind's expansions were way better.

Hopefully this huge popularity means LOTS MORE ELDER SCROLLS FOR ME!!!

Hmmm, no one talks in this thread indeed.

Anyone play Section 8? I saw it on sale last week but didn't bite because didn't know if it was worth it.

Also interested in Payday.

Lots of people talk in the Steam deals thread, so much I can scarcely keep up! But yeah, this thread has sort of died because the discussion gets mixed in with the talk of deals over there.
S8P is dead, but if you can get it for 3.75 with the DLC again the bots are decent to play against, plus it has a campaign.
Hmmm, I guess that would be fine anyways, I don't play with other people too often. How are the bots? Can they be set to decent difficulty?
Lots of people talk in the Steam deals thread, so much I can scarcely keep up! But yeah, this thread has sort of died because the discussion gets mixed in with the talk of deals over there.
Yeah, I just noticed that. I think the PC forum was always a bit slow even from last year, but I do recall the steam thread here being much more active back then.

I don't have Skyrim so I can't anything about it...

It just doesn't seem to make sense to use this thread when the steam deal thread is easier and more active. I really dont mind either. I mean it would be different if there was a million steam deals a day and we needed the thread to keep track of things, but thats just not the case.

Yeah, I agree; I'd prefer to just talk over there. The only issue is that they flag stuff as off-topic sometimes if it's not deal-related. But really, most things we'd talk about are deal-related anyway as long as I don't wander off into a diatribe about why I should have not early-adopted a 3DS.

I consider this thread reserved for discussion of Steam itself, like when they update/add a feature, or in regards to the EA row.

This workshop thing they've included seems like it'd only be of use to a handful of people. Not sure why they'd take the trouble to build it into the client.

I'll be using it for Skyrim, so I'm biased, but maybe Skyrim is important enough already for them to build it into the client. I'm sure they'll be using it for their own games as well.

They already use it for TF2. I could see it branching out ot be used in DOTA, and also as their equivalent to XBLIG or to host general mods for more games in the future.

Hey can someone clarify something for me, I asked Thongsy below a few weeks ago about this and never got a reply, so I figured I'd pop in here and see if anyone can elaborate on what he said to me in the below post.
While Steam is awesome, but they can also be dreadful. I felt the same way till I had to deal with customer service and learning that they can and will ban if you do something they don't like such as file a chargeback, activate a foreign game serial, etc. And if they do well you just lost all your games. And because of that I'm now a bit more wary of buying on Steam.

Well shit, I don't have a Steam account, but I do have a UK copy of The Last Remnant that has to be activated on Steam, I know the US copy of Metro 2033 I bought has to be as well, and I'm not sure if my Mass Effect 1 (UK version does or not, or if that just logs into the EA servers) now I know why I quit buying PC games a long time ago.

Can you elaborate on any of the games I mentioned, or am I just totally fucked with the ones I did buy that are not US region and require an online activation Steam or otherwise? (I have a few of these Mass Effect 1 being of them)
So that's my question, am I even going to be able to use my UK copy of The Last Remnant?

Also does Mass Effect 1 & 2 use Steam (I'm not asking if they are activatable on Steam, but rather if you have to use them to play) or is there just a one time activation via an EA server? And as I mentioned is my ME1 UK version going to be an issue for activating it to be able to play it?

I need to know so I can decide if I need to rebuy some of these games I bought on PC in the last few years need to be rebought on the X360 or not.

I'm not overly keen on using Steam unless I have too (Eg. The Last Remnant) to be able to play it.

I wouldn't bother, but I've not played (bought yes) a PC game in ages (just installed Crysis 1 and STALKER: SoC when I built my new PC over the summer and I need someone who is more informed than me about these things. So any help/information is appreciated. :)

Hey all.

Someone is trying to give me Killing Floor for free but then STEAM says I already own it. When I go to the store page it says $4.99 please.

Any suggestions?

^ Might have been the fact that it was the free weekend that was screwing it up.

Who in their bloody right minds thinks it's a good idea for the client's store page to randomize the order of things once you click something to go to its page and then go back to the storefront? Most fucking aggravating thing for me aside from server overloads, which is to be expected.

Quote from the GamersGate CEO on that article above,

"The market is mostly made up of people who buy 2-3 games a year and want a fast, easy and seamless way of buying games. They don’t want a bulky client,"

Steam is "bulky"? I haven't used GamersGate but that's because I haven't felt the need to, to be honest. The comments from that CEO come across as a little bit catty in my opinion. The bad catty, not the good super-cute-kitten-picture carry.

Yeah it must have been. I logged out a few times and eventually it came up as able to install.

I only have 1 person that plays this that I know in RL. The online community has got to be the worst I have ever encounter in my PC gaming life (1988 to now). I'm going to give the game a few more runs but it's on my uninstall list.

Steam really isn't bulky, and infact I like the fact I can have all my games in one place, with achievements, logs of how long I played and other great features. Plus I use it as my primary IM Client with my friends because we all use it. With the daily deals, even if you buy only a few games a year the money you save is worth it to just check every day.

GET THE FROZEN SYNAPSE ACHIEVEMENT IN 30 SECONDS

Not sure if this has been posted or not, but getting the Frozen Synapse achievement is VERY VERY EASY. Open the game, click play offline, click on skirmish generator. On the left, give yourself 1 machine gunner and nothing else. On the right, set the opponent to 0 of everything. Hit play then after the level loads, hit prime. YOU AUTOMATICALLY WIN AND GET THE ACHIEVEMENT.

Here's a video that shows everything:

Waiting for $10 or less. From what I've seen, the SS games take pretty drastic price drops during sales frequently, so I don't see BFE being any different.
anyone else jump on the serious sam bfe for 20?
since it was $12 for a day already last week, no, ill wait .

Every time one of these dailies has a really low metacritic score, I start thinking about what the lowest-rated games on Steam are. Then I realize that you can easily sort for that:

Apologies for the crappy cutnpaste, but I think you can make it out...

I actually own 3 of those!

Anyone have any experience with hacked items in dungeon defenders?

I don't know too much about the game and just got a character to level 70. I was browsing the player shops on Trendy Net last night and some guy came in with a killer robot that shot lasers out of it's eyes. I followed him arount trying to see player info and check the stats but he kept moving around.

I must have creeped him out because he said hi. I apologized told him I just wanted to check his robot out etc. I quit the shop I was in and the guy sent me a steam friend request. Long story short he had me connect to his game where he gave me another robot he had sitting around, some armor, a guardian for my friends squire, a staff that does like 350,000 dps, and 200,000,000 mana (he said to upgrade the stuff he gave me). I asked if he was Santa and he said no, he was just bored.

I would like to believe the guy was just really nice but the stats on that staff are crazy and that is a ton of mana. I may play a game or two with the staff to check it out but it will probably make the game boring.

Ever play Borderlands? In MP, there are players with duped stuff out the wazoo that makes the game much less interesting. Sounds very similar; especially when they're giving it away.

I played BL on 360, so I haven't had to deal with it. I'm guessing it's hacked but I've seen a lot of people wearing or sellong things with crazy stats. Most of it is Mythical though and this is only Godly, which makes me more suspicious.

im new to steam and its a refreshing experience compared to the consoles and their nickle and dime greed. so im looking for some people who might have some recommendations of the best free to play games (or maybe would wanna play w a PC noob like me). thanks

have you tried Team Fortress 2? definitely the best free to play game IMO

You can add me to your friend list. Same forum name as my steam name. I play AVA and TF2 quite often. Both are f2p and have a lot to offer.

Ive had some good legit items given to me but nothing like that. A friend has a item he was given that has to be hacked, it has too many upgrade levels compared to what are the supposed limits tied to that item type.
I have about $50 in steam funds that I would like to turn into cash. Any ideas on how to do this..?
1. Buy a gift copy of a new/popular game.
2. Sell on eBay/CAG/etc.
3. ¿¿¿
4. ¡Prophet!

Got into the Super Monday Night Combat beta today. I'm enjoying this game a LOT. I love that they really pushed it more towards a DOTA/LOL style game. The original was too team deathmatch-ey for me.
