Top 5 actors of all time

sgs89

CAGiversary!
Who are your top 5 actors of all time? The list should include not just those who are popular, but the ones you particularly enjoy watching, even if they are a little under the radar.

Here are mine:

1. Clint Eastwood -- I have always loved this guy, from the time of his old westerns to the current, grey version. Total bad-ass.

2. Jeff Bridges -- In my view, one of the most underrated actors working today. His turn in The Big Lebowski was classic.

3. Ed Harris -- He is not a superstar, but in my view has always been rock solid. Never a bad performance, even in bad movies (like History of Violence).

4. Kevin Costner -- Yes, he can be a bit cheesy and he has made a few bombs, but I have always been a fan. Field of Dreams, For Love of the Game (can you tell I like baseball?), and even The Postman.

5. Mel Gibson -- He has grown on me. Braveheart was top notch.

I'm not too much of a movie buff so I can't really think of 5.

Johnny Depp -- I just like the fact that he is so diverse in all of his movies.

Edward Norton -- Always thought of him as a solid actor, and really enjoyed him in American History X and Fight Club

that's all I can think of for now.

I agree on the Norton call -- he is a great actor. American History X made him a legend.

Depp is good, as well.

lawrence oliviet
patrick stewart
sean penn
john leguizamo
jimmy stewart

edit: bogart and peter sellers are good picks as well.

The key words from the OP are "best actors of all time"

if you are talking about "from our generation" then i would say

tom hanks
nicholas cage
jeremy irons
phillip seymor haufman
john leguizamo

In no particular order:
1-Bruce Willis
2-Benicio Del Toro
3-John Candy
4-Kurt Russel (if only for The Thing and Tango&Cash...)
5-Jean Claude van Damme (long live the Muscles from Brussels!)

Hmm... I can't really make a list right now.

Johnny Depp would definitely be on the list, though. He can play any role perfectly. I mean, you could ask him to play a carrot in the worst movie ever made... and you'd be like... "Boy, the movie sucked! But that carrot was kickass!"

I'm glad that someone else mentioned Jackie. Of course, Guile has great taste. :)

Jackie can pull off action, comedy, and even drama. Try watching Heart of Dragon (with original Cantonese track, of course)...

If you don't cry, you're a cold, heartless bastard. That, or dead...

Top 5 for me would have to be:

Edward Norton (my all time favorite actor)
Philip Seymor Haufman (excellent actor, needs more leading roles)
Tom Hanks (self-explanatory)
Jack Nicholson (Gimme the bat wendy, Gimme the bat)
Sean Penn (another great)

Well I just glanced through this but....

I don't think anyone has mentioned Morgan Freeman.

SHAME ON YOU GUYS!

He should just change his name to Red....cause that's all he'll ever be.

j/k...but not really
damn forgot Murray..:(
Murray definitely belongs on this list. He has gotten better with age. His last few movies have been great.

Jackie is definitely not as one-dimensional as some people think. He is by far my favorite actor ever.

I don't think people appreciate comedy as much as they should in regards to acting.

Morgan Freeman is good too.

Yeah, Jackie could possibly be my favorite of all time, too. I've been a lifelong fan. In fact, I think the first time I saw him was at a movie theater here that played Wheels on Meals, but dubbed in Spanish.

But Jackie can do anything. And I've never been disappointed by him. Plus, he's a great person, too.

I dont have no all time favorite actors, i mean they all do a good job and i respect that from all of them. Now, as for thier movies, thats another story, but nobody in hollywood makes all perfect movies, so again i respect them, but i dont respect some of thier work that they do.

So i really dont have a top actor, sorry.

I can't make a top 5, but some of my favorites:

Nicolas Cage
Tom Hanks
Jackie Chan
Jet Li
Stephen Chow
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Don't fuck with the Rock)
Jim Carrey
Adam Sandler
Will Ferrel

...I could go on for days

Tom Hanks
John Travolta
Samuel L. Jackson
Nic Cage
Vin Diesel (Okay, he isn't a great actor, but there isn't a movie of his I haven't enjoyed yet.)

I know that is more than 5 and I could list more, but those were the first that came to my mind when I saw this topic. I have not seen alot of international movies and the majority of older movies I have seen have starred Pacino or DeNiro so take the list for what you will.
