Transfer HDD data?

I'm about to buy a 1TB drive from NewEgg and need to transfer data from one hard drive to another. If I put both HDDs in my PC and ran a Linux Live CD, could I transfer the data? I would just do it straight from Windows but I have 3 HDDs (including the one I'm going to buy from NewEgg) so I'd have to remove one HDD (the OS HDD) to transfer.

Yes, that will work, but be sure that the distro you use has NTFS support (unless of course your Windows drive is formatted FAT32, but it probably isn't). I'd recommend Linux Mint, it comes with NTFS support out of the box.
