Was also told that I couldn't use coupons with the 40% off sale.

As posted earlier, the coupons are generic.  I picked up the games in the video game department, and was asked to go to customer service to get the coupons.

I just had a horrible experience with my local store and the 800 number. I was in line to pick up my preorders with a couple other people waiting on Pokemon X&Y, and once we got inside and waiting on the cashier to get some info from the stock room, they said they did not have the game in stock.  And not only did they not have the game in stock, it wasn't going to be in their next shipment and it was going to be 1-2 weeks before they probably received them. I walked out upset and decided to call the 800 number when I got home. I explained the situation and they were of zero help. All I heard was "my supervisor says no" on every question I had. The customer service rep didn't even ask the store in question. How can you not have what is to be presumed Nintendo's #1 selling title for this year in stock on release day as well as having it advertised in your weekly circular? They had no answers for me, just simply told me they wouldn't do anything about it. I'm done with TRU for the time being. Their lack of planning involved and customer service was horrible.

Did you get the email saying that your store had the games available to pick up? If you did, you could argue that you were lied to at that store.

Had as much success as I planned on having. I had preordered both games, but since I only have 1 3DS right now & am pretty broke anyway, I'd just get X. I told the cashier (who is a supervisor) I wanted to use the coupon on the game. She told me I couldn't. I expected this and you should too. But what I didn't expect was her reluctance to just try it when I asked her to. I've worked there for 4 years! I had to explain that I was only buying one game so the B1G1 40% promo wasn't being applied to the game I was buying. She tried it. It worked. Happy me.

horrible experience
That sucks. First of all, you should know the 1800 number is very rarely any help. It may be worth it to call back in a little bit and just ask if they have it. Don't tell them who you are or anything. I'd be willing to be they do and just don't know where they are. The Shipping / Receiving Specialist, who signs for and sorts all of the UPS/Fed Ex shpments, at my store only works M-F. And the communication can sometimes be poor. Now if they actually did not get the shipment, there really isn't anything that can be done. If you complain enough to the store manager or something then they might give you a discount. But I wouldn't do that.

That's odd, since I was told to enter my email address when I placed my preorder for X & Y. :???:
I would guess that's most likely for the e-mail copy of the receipt they send you.

Got my preorders without issue for B1G1 this morning, but had to ask about the $10 preorder bonus; apparently no one in the store was aware of it yet. They took my preorder card to the manager; I could hear a bit of the discussion from the checkout counter, including the phrase 'gift card', which got my hopes up. When they came back out they said they could not find the coupons, but they offered to mail them to me when they came in. I politely said I would be more comfortable with a gift card (manager said they could not do that), or offered to buy 2 games today if they would modify the price on them to reflect the $20 from the coupons. The manager said they could do that, but I would have to buy a full price game; I stated that I understand that's the terms of use on the coupon, but I didn't want to be forced to buy 2 games at full price -now- because they could not find or did not have the coupons to honor the preorder deal. Manager went back into the office and called around, got a copy of the coupon faxed from another store, and wrote their name on the copies so I -hopefully- should not have any issues redeeming them if I go back in.

I was not expecting (just hoping) the coupons would work with the sale price today, but I would have been much happier with a gift card instead since they did not have the coupons. Someone may have luck in another store getting one if they don't have the coupons handy.

They asked me for my email as well, but I just said no since the guy had just told me right before that they already had their stock sitting in the back when he checked to see if they had the guides in

I picked up both Pokemon games today w/ preorder, got the BOGO deal, and recieved a coupon for neither with purchase.

One rang up $39.99 with a $31.99 refund price
One rang up $23.99
$2 for the preorder were then deducted from the total

When I said "wtf? where are my coupons" to the cashier, he had no idea what I was talking about. He got his superior, who also didn't. Who got his superior that also didn't. Who got his superior that also didn't.

The 4th superior combed over my receipt and the blue preorder card for about 15 minutes and claimed that I didn't get the coupons because of the BOGO deal.

Now, the fineprint on the blue card is poorly worded, it says, " At the time of pickup guest will recieve one coupon for $10 off regular-priced video game purchase of $39.99 or more" SHE deduced that this meant I had to PAY $39.99 or more for both Pokemon games to recieve the coupon(s). This thread, however, makes it sound as though the game I'm USING the coupon on needs to be $39.99 or more, and I should get the coupons regardless of what I paid for Pokemon XY. I admit, I was confused about the point at the time, since the wording is somewhat vague.

She finally agreed to price adjust the transaction -$10 for the one pokemon game I theoretically paid $39.99, and handed me back a $10 bill. I didn't feel like arguing the point further so I took it, still feeling I was supposed to get another $10 out of this somewhere.

None of them seemed to have any awareness of the presence of any actual physical coupons to give out, for the record, and I admit I didn't ask because I thought the cash register was just supposed to spit the coupon out automatically with pickup.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but I SHOULD have gotten both the BOGO deal AND two $10 coupons. Correct?

Does anyone know what I should do about this? Does customer service have an e-mail? I really don't feel like going back in and arguing with them face to face anymore.

Josh, is there any possible way to help improve communication between retail locations? It seems that some are competent, and others have no idea how anything works, let alone be aware of any deals.

gamestop and best buy employees seemingly NEVER drop the ball, at even the crummiest locations. It only seems to be TRU, and non-coincidentally, Kmart back when they had similar promos.

is there a common theme here in communicating these deals to the companies you are affiliated with? The deals are incredible but I have completely given up on trying. Making a 20 min drive knowing I have basically a 50/50 shot between competence and incompetence just isn't worth the headache. And yes, I've tried calling beforehand to no avail. They either put me on hold for 15 minutes or I get someone unwilling to get the right answers.

communication must be improved if TRU wants to succeed on this front Inconsistency is the death of business.

After talking to three different person, one of them who knew what it was handed me the above voucher. So it's not a gift card I was hoping. Anyone could simply copy it an use it as many times as they want. Question is, are we able to use the voucher along with the b1g40% off?

I asked when I got my copy of X and Y, the guy said no.

Last time going to TRUs for me for a while. B1G1 worked fine for both Pokemon games, received my coupons, then attempted to use both...and then only one of the 10 off coupons on two copies of Windwaker. I was told it wouldn't work, she claimed she tried it and that it rejected both promotions, or any combination.

Useless coupons for a 20 minute drive...nice.

The second copy of windwaker should have rung up 40% off so that's why only 1 coupon worked. Total was $70 for 2 copies?

So many stories about TRU managers and supervisors not caring about promotions and the details about these deals. it's really pointless to have sales if your not going to stand by the deal. I am thinking about going back return and rebuy these XY just to use this stupid coupon

I picked up my 2 copies for $64. Asked if one of the preorder coupons could be applied to the purchase and the cashier told me the $20 would go into my rewards account. So I paid then went and talked to the manager and he knew exactly what the coupons were I asked about, he went to the office and returned with 2 coupons for me

Got X and Y on one receipt, got 40% one game

Got Y and Dream Team on the other, got 40% there as well

Asked the dude about the $10 coupons, he had no idea what I was talking about. Didn't really bother me, I went on with my day.

For anyone who says they've had a bad experience, there's quite a few things you can do. Even if for some reason you don't get the game or coupon because they don't have it for some reason, still buy something (cheap, like candy or soda). On any given receipt, they have a survey with code you can take, and believe it or not, TRU corporate lives and dies by these things and pays attention to them and any comments you might leave; if the store gets a bad score, they hear about it from someone who actually can do something.

Also, if you get an idiot calling the 800 number, just hang up and call back until you get someone who knows what they're doing, and failing that, ask for a supervisor. They also have a twitter, facebook page, and email contact too, just like any other retailer, and as any good CAG will tell you, the right amount of complaining may actually get you far more than you expect than just posting about it here will.

I didn't even ask my store, they were applying the coupon with the deal automatically!

Picked up Pokemon X & Y, they took one coupon, overrode it and handed the games and 1 coupon to me!

Surprised and pumped!

I'm confused. Why are people complaining?

Because they won't let you use the coupons on the initial purchase? Even though that purchase is what is supposed to net you the coupon? Or because you can't use the coupon on a game that is on sale or part of another promotion when we knew going in (at least the last few days) that the T&C of the coupon forbid it?

I mean really... what are you guys complaining about?

If you went to the store, they had the games, they rang up B1G1 40% and they had a preorder coupon for each game you preordered I don't see what their is to bitch about.

See, most people are complaining because they are being denied getting their $10 for pre-ordering period. One manager even told someone that because they are getting B1G1 40% off it means they can not get their $10 for pre-ordering which is wrong.

So, I guess you CAN see what they are "bitching" about/

I went in today to pick up my preordered Ponemon Y. I also decided to get Mario and Luigi for 3DS to get the buy one get one 40% off promo. But, they told me that they had no coupons so instead they were going to take $10 off Pokemon and give me Mario and Luigi for 24.

Overall, i was very happy because i got two games for $57 after taxes.

So you could pretty much tell the employee to punch in coupon code 963840 to knock off $10

Just try to use the coupon on couple games. It won't combined with B1G1 40% offer. The system will beep. No point to pre-order from TRU.

If you have a TRU store that doesn't know whats going on, tell one of their supervisors to look at their Impact Planner.

Keep in mind TRU stores are severely understaffed because corporate has no idea how to manage hours to run a store efficiently.

Not to mention, new hires are just starting and are completely clueless, asa again, the severe lack of hours leads to inefficient or no training.

The coupons are just store coupons, they should have arrived at all stores within the past week.

Picked up X & Y for about $22.xx each!!! Went to customer service showed my preorder receipt & card. She got the games which came out to $65.82 (B1G140%OFF) Then i asked about the coupons, they couldnt find them so I said I would be fine if you can take off $10 on each..they refunded me $21.20:)
On top i will get 10% back on my rewards!!! #WINNING

Yes but many people were bitching because they weren't allowed to use them on a previous order. And people were also bitching because they said the coupons were worthless. Well getting a game for $29.99 instead of $39.99 when it isn't cheaper anywhere else at that particular moment isn't worthless IMO.

And the coupons come in stacks; sort of like a sticky note pad. My store didn't have them out by a supervisor was nice enough to locate them for me. Sometimes being polite and kind instead of an entitled little shit (not talking to you directly) is helpful.

I went in this afternoon to pick up my copy of X & Y that I pre-ordered everything was going fine till I brought up the coupons. The cashier in Rzone didn't have a clue about the coupons. So he went to talk to the supervisor and got the manager involved. I brought up the fact that it should have been somewhere in the impact folder as per noted here. But the manager said he saw nothing and he wasn't going to do anything since the buy one get one 40% off was more of a value than taking off $20 from my order.

I asked nicely if they would please check it again since that's where the information should be . I can't remember the exact word for word of the manager but it was just so unprofessional. Saying they get trained by corporate and he knows everything that's going on in his store. A few minutes had passed and I was waiting for my games and receipt while they took other customers. In that time I pointed out to the manager that obviously he doesn't know everything that's going on cause I found Pacific Rim out on the shelves as well as new releases for next week. I left without coupons but I at least got the games.

Denied the coupon but I was told that they didn't have them yet and I MIGHT get it through email... I'm just going to call back in a ew days and ask.

Tell them to ask their SRS if they saw them come in via FedEx or UPS. They were supposed to be put in the managers office, safe, or locked drawer in the service area.

If not they can actually print them from the Impact Planner project page for this promotion. If they don't see it in the Impact Planner then one of their employees prematurely deleted it and they can look for it via search history.

Anything less and they're just being lazy or are completely incompetent. And I apologize for it for all TRU stores.

There won't be an email for it, it's a physical pad of coupons they should have ripped one off and gave to you. Telling you maybe via email is them being incompetent and trying to get rid of you.

I just called mine to see if they got Pokemon in and had to listen to the phone ring for 10 mins. I hung up and called back and a lady could care less about her job there and customer service. I asked about why no one answered and she put me on hold. This is why Toys R Us sucks. The employees just don't give a damn. Corporate needs to put an action plan in place to change these attitudes or else it will always be the last place I look!

The Impact Planner is a program on the computer that goes to all stores and it contains every project, promotion, and event for TRU.

Employees don't care because corporate doesn't care, the attitudes will change when corporate changes. Their is no loyalty to the company because corporate shows no loyalty to the employees with few hours, stingy policies, and cut corners. Raises are about 10cents on average a year. Welcome to TRU.

it took about 10 minutes bc the person wasn't sure where the coupons were but eventually i got them both.  They aren't unique, He even tried to use them on that transaction but it didn't work.  Oh well, at least I was able to get the coupons.

My trip to Toys R Us couldn't have gone better, for once. I went to the gaming area to pick up my Poke preorder, and I saw a stack of the coupons sitting out on the counter for the customers. He started to ring up my game, and I asked if I could use the coupon. He said I could, scanned it, and I got the game for $30. After reading all of these stories with people not even getting their coupons, I almost ran out of the store.
