Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

QUESTION! Could I buy green tag items now, and return them within 45 days...rebuy them, and continue until they get cheaper? Just a thought.

That sure seems like a lot of work...

If it worked at all, I think it would only work the first time (they write on your receipt to show that you adjusted the price, and I doubt they'd adjust an already adjusted receipt).

Damn, the CC sale starting on the July 3 and then this on the 4th. Hopefully, TRU has more games that I want then the CC sale but I just have to be able to catch what I like.

The list comes out on July 4th. The sale starts July 17. That gives us a much needed two-week breather between the sales, and a chance to collect a paycheck in between.

Actually, didn't TRU stop doing PM's completely, tubtub?

Thanks for the heads up. I am not going to get too excited about this though until I see a list. Even then, I am not so sure. 30% isn't much on CAG!! :D I'll likely hold off until Auguest for 50% off!

Unless it's something I really need to have, I'll probably just wait and see if everything eventually drops to 75% or 90% off. There probably won't be as good of a selection at that point (especially since a lot more people are going to be on the look out this time), but I've still got plenty of 90% off games to play from the last Green Tag sale.
Actually, didn't TRU stop doing PM's completely, tubtub?
They did stop PMing everyone else, but if something in the store drops in price they still will give you the difference back within 14 days(some still do 30 days). I wouldn't be surprised if they decided that they wouldn't let you get the difference on green tag stuff back when it drops to 50% off. Of course you could just return and rebuy, but even thats YMMV.

Does TRU have any policy that they must "restock" the games after 48 hours or something similar that would stop you from returning then rebuying the games back from them in the same trip?

I wouldn't be surprised if they decided that they wouldn't let you get the difference on green tag stuff back when it drops to 50% off. Of course you could just return and rebuy, but even thats YMMV.
I'm sure they would happily deny you the additional 20%, though that'll be interesting to see when the time occurs for that to happen.

Are the timeframes carved in stone for this, like your OP suggested? Week 1-4, 30%, week 5-?, 50%, possibly more later depending on sales volume?

Sounds like the right time to get lucky with something might be the beginning of week 3, where the drop from 30% to 50% would occur and possibly be PM-able.

still seems like a ways off before the craziness that is 75%-90% off... However, I somewhat expect most of the 'good' stuff here not lasting past 50% anyway..

Bingo. That's why I'll get what I REALLY want at 30-50% off then wait for the true love that is 75-90% off. The sale also starts 2 days after I get paid, so it be on my homies.

I can confirm this, the dates are still a bit shakey on the start and when the prices will change my DM told me today that it'd probably run along the same lines as last years sale. But likely that stuff would not drop to 90% off this time since most of the remaining items will still be good items rather than last years (like having a stack of old game magazines, GBC accessories, and old version GBA accessories).

Nope, but some stores have been known to say you can't return it and rebuy it immediately(they say it has to be processed first which takes awhile).

The sale will start definitely July 17th, thats the day everything will ring at the registers. Part of the reason they are taking 2 weeks to mark the merchandise is so that any mistakes can be found before the sale starts and everything can be marked in the stores. August 14th is the set date things will ring at 50% off, but I guess if it sells extremely well at 30% they could decide to postpone it. After that, they've said sales volume will determine the next drop. But most likely from what I've heard it will never reach 90%(and zon heard the same thing). There are a lot of items they've ordered specially just for the sale, so at the end of it, they could just try to sell them back at full price.

did anyone else read that they were bumping the sale up to July 3rd? The Green Tag list is supposed to be up Thursday June 30!

Great titles will be GONE whenever 30% off is start. (Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga).

Here's the game i hope for 30% off sales

Metal Slug 4 & 5 - 30% off = $28

Stella Deus: The Gate of Enternity
Alterlie Iris: Eternal Mana
Romance of the Three Kingdoms X
Makai kingdom (7/26/05)

On our June 29 Daily Hot News it stated that they're pushing the Green Tag sale to start July 3rd and that they will be adding a Green Tag sale link today(Thursday June 30) with all the info. I won't be going by there until late tonight but I'm confident that Tubtub will probably have all the stuff posted by the time I get home.

I'll check when I go today, but I won't be home until about 11 so either you or tubtub will already have the info. up. It wouldn't come as much of a surprise though, as they probably wanted to have the sale ready for the independence day weekend.

Good luck with many of those. Why they would green tag something that is coming out during the course of the sale is beyond me (Makai Kingdom). I could see Metal Slug 4 & 5 and maybe Stella Dues, but the rest just came out. I hope your wish comes true though. ;)

I wonder if they are moving it up to compete with the CC clearence. Doubtful but maybe they think since people will be out buying cheapass games at CC they might just take a trip over to TRU to get more cheapass games. :D
The list comes out on July 4th. The sale starts July 17. That gives us a much needed two-week breather between the sales, and a chance to collect a paycheck in between.

-DM
For me it'll be litterally one paycheck. Damn bi-weekly paydays

Before you type up the big list...

Is it worth it, or is it mostly just crap?
Luckily the local TRU and CC are in the same complex, about 3 buildings away from one another :)
There's one TRU & CC next door to one another out here, and another one about the same distance as you list above. Rest are pretty close to one another.

As if I needed to do any more driving on Sunday.

I can already give you a sample of what's on sale at 30% off -

KoF: Maximum Impact
Rumble Roses
Baten Kaitos
Nightmare of Druaga

Let's see how right I am :p

I may just get baten at TRU since it comes with the soundtrack....but I can't beat 9.99.....I don't know. Here's hoping Shin megami is part of it, cause there's a few left where I am.

Haha, I was just kidding, the games I listed are the same ones that every other store seems to be clearancing out for random prices, so I assume and expect TRU to throw down the same ones.

AKA the same stuff on sale at CC? :D

If that's the case then I'll be sitting out on this one. TRU will have $30+ price tags on most of that stuff that is worth anything so 30% off will still be $21+ tax. Ass! Hopefully the list will show some hidden gems.

There were some nice ones last time around, like Otogi, so we'll have to see what this one brings.

If we're right and it's the same stuff KMart has been toddling out the door during the Bluelight sales, and CC with the upcoming sale, it's certainly a meh from me.

If it's not, then who knows what we could find?

Oh yeah, I was a huge supporter of the sale last year. I got a bunch of stuff. I just hope there are some nice titles again this time around. I agree 100% with your attitude if it's the Kmart/CC stuff. I don't think there's nearly enough older quality games out that they would clearence. Maybe they will go with some newer titles though that just haven't been selling.......KOF 02/03 and Metal Slug 4 & 5 perhaps?

I was at my TRU today and they are one of the stores that still keeps all the games in the back and you have to bring the little paper slip up to the register to get the game. Well, to my surprise, they had a ton of games in those bulkly single plastic cases all over the video game section, and while none of them were green tagged, they looked like the type of games that would be green tagged when the sale goes on (or were green tagged during the winter and retagged now). I think there may have been around 70 some PS2 titles, 50 PS2 and 50 X-Box titles and two GBA titles (and a ton of GBA videos).

Maybe my store is preparing ahead of time or maybe they are just trying to make some room in the backroom for other games, I dunno. Just odd since they hadn't done that to this kind of extreme before, and with the upcoming green tag sale, made me curious...ya see, Theos. ^_~
