Because they hyped the hell out of it, and it's been in the works forever, and it's not nearly as good as it should be. The only good part of the game is the story. The gunplay is lame, the ai is worse than stupid (I actually had a guy I was shooting at turn, walk, not run but walk, away from me and start climbing a ladder across the room) and the sneaking feels more like boring crouch walking. And considering how bad the AI is, it's not even that hard to sneak.

It's not even opinion stuff like someone not liking Gears for the art style, you can clearly see stupid AI, that's a fact.
