BEST BUY UPGRADE AND SAVE PROGRAM (Begins January 13, 2013 through the end of business February 2, 2013)

1) Trade in ANY DVD for a $5 credit toward purchase of any in-stock blu-ray $9.99 and up.

* Limit 5 per visit. Per visit is most often interpreted as 5 per day per customer, but many people have just walked out and come back in immediately or later the same say with 5 more discs. Plenty of people have done far more than 5 at a single visit as long as the store allows the exception.

* No stacking of coupons. A Single $5 discount coupon is allowed per blu-ray or blu-ray boxset. A boxset of 3 movies will not allow 3 coupons, for example.

2) Trade-in DVDs do not have to be same title as blu-ray to be purchased.

3) DVDs must be a commercially produced discs (no burned copies).

4) No adult DVDs that are specifically XXX content; whether they are rated XXX or not.

5) Discs are supposed to have the original case and artwork. Discs are meant to be at least presentable - should look playable. Many stores require the UPC to be intact. Some stores check things pretty closely (right disc, right case, right UPC, disc condition) and others just toss the case into the recycle bin without any screening (some people swear they traded in an empty case). [In reality discs in anything that look like regular case are often accepted by some stores including those is Blockbuster/3rd party cases with rental stickers and and nowhere near original artwork and UPC]

* Are HDDVD or HD-DVD combo packs eligible? This has been a YMMV issue and some places people have been given credit for both type discs, others only if it was a combo, and some stores refused to consider it at all for the trade-in. If you run into this issue either try a different store or call 1-800 BESTBUY and see if they can clarify the issue for you or your Store Manager.

6) Blu-ray - all current and new release Bluray priced $9.99 or above should be included. Music Blurays were included in the April 2012, but weren't in previous U&S sales.

7) Each store in the past had their own logistics of how to work the program. Most stores would make you stop at the entry and have your used discs stamped/marked/taped.

* Many stores had you bring the used DVD to the Service desk, check them out to make sure they met criteria and gave the customer a preprinted coupon(s) with a receipt attached to the coupon/barcode. Some stores gave the customer a Copied sheet of paper with the UPC bar code and attached receipt to 'activate' the sheet of paper. The coupon could them be exchanged at the regular register for the blu-ray you were purchasing and the barcode automatically deducted the $5 at sale. This allowed you to take your coupons out of the store and purchase later. The expiration date on the official coupon is usually the last day of the sale. If you are given a coupon with a receipt attached, do not detach them or your coupon may well be disallowed.

* Some stores required you to bring/leave your DVD at the Customer Service desk, then bring your blu-rays to the Service desk to complete the purchase. No coupons were given out so you had to exchange and purchase the discs the same day.

* Some stores would allow you to trade your DVD for a coupon at the Service Desk, but each coupon was marked/dated and you were told it was only valid for the date on the coupon and in that specific store. [Only had this happen once and I have no idea what would have happened if I took the coupon to a different store or brought it back to the same store later.]

8) Discounts are most often taken from the actual Selling Price of the blu-ray on the day of purchase despite the fine print on the coupon saying "Discount taken from Regular Price." This has and will likely continue to be a contentious point until corporate absolutely clarifies the issue or changes the language. BBY ads often show discs with Sale Prices and then subtract the $5 U&S coupon so logically that should apply to all other discs.

9) Price matching and using $5 coupon is a big YMMV since this can be most certainly considered combining offers or double dipping much in the same way that PM and getting a gift card for purchase is often considered doubling up. This is one argument I actually find hard to argue with though it's worth trying. Since the U&S is considered a Store coupon it should be applied to the price before trying to PM unlike a Manufacturers coupon (this difference is spelled out very specifically in Target and other stores coupon use policy).

10) There should be absolutely no arguments about using Reward Zone certificates during purchase.

11) Additional Manufacturers Coupons SHOULD BE allowed and should be considered the same as cash or a gift card on top of the $5 Promo. This doesn't mean it won't be argued and it certainly doesn't mean it will be accepted, but according the Best Buy own Corporate Reps, the use of MQ should never be questioned whether it's a sales price or price-match or promo.

Multiple times the Best Buy Corporate Employees have had to repeat the phrase

"The store should honor the coupon, even with the price match. Any valid manufacturer’s coupon displaying the manufacturer’s address, a barcode, and labeled as a Manufacturer’s coupon at the top should be accepted on the product listed, regardless of the price."

12) Buying a disc this week and in hopes of applying the coupon next week will work, but it should work as a return/rebuy so if the price is higher next week it may not always save you money. As usual there is some YMMV whether some stores will allow you to repurchase the same disc unless the store has current stock. The same can be said of ordering discs online for pick up at the store -- some stores have allowed a return/rebuy to add the coupon and some stores have refused to do this.

13) U&S coupons obtained for this promotion period can only be used during this promotion period.

Picked up X-Men 1, 2, 3, First Class, Origins Wolverine, Dark Knight Rises, and Hunger Games for $51. Oh, and $30 for Wolverine. Did I do it right?
I think you should have gotten $50 in movie money for Wolverine as you bought 5 Xmen titles. But good haul, $8/movie average. DK and HG increased your average price.

Picked up a few more movies today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the various Steelbook movies goes on sale for $9.99 in the next week or so.

On a related note, I have no interest in Ultraviolet movies or download movies. Do people normally sell them?

Cant find a copy of the 30th Anniversary Edition of Vacation at any of the 3 stores I checked today. Might just have to bite the bullet and pay $9.99 for via BB.com.
If you think you're ordering it, do it ASAP. If you get it in the mail before the Upgrade & Save sale is over, you should be able to RETURN and REBUY using a coupon. I did that with about 10 movies last sale. You run the risk of the price going higher between your original order and the rebuy. Also be sure not to buy anything with with an 8-digit long SKU# as those are online-only items and they won't be able to return them in-store (they don't even ring up in the computer). That happened to me last sale when I ordered THE GRADUATE on Blu-ray, couldn't return it because it wasn't in the system. At $9.99, I just kept it as a lesson learned.

When I asked him he said yes it will work. It was one of those cardboard thing you hand to the cashier to scan for the pre=order so I don't know if that makes a difference. I'm going back today so I'll post if it works.
I went back and there was a different cashier and he said it wouldn't work. I asked him to scan it and try but he insisted it wouldn't work. Not many of the people that work there seem very knowledgeable about their own policies. He ended up giving me the coupons back which I was happy about. Also on a side note I picked up Gamer3d and it had Boss season 2 disc 2 in it. I went back and we opened up all the other copies and they were all the same. If you're thinking about buying it, I'd suggest opening it up in the store just to make sure it's the right disc.

Picked up both seasons of Sherlock and X-Men First Class tonight.  Nice to get the $10 wolverine movie cash out of the deal and only pay $5 for the movie after the trade in.

I online price matched Workaholics season 3 to $6.99 and ZombieLand to $4.99 after coupons, so it will work in the system.  Depends on the sales clerk I suppose.

Also walked out with Jurassic Park for $7.99, the Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz combo - $4.99 and also my coupon good for another 4 upgrades next week.  Awesome clerk!  C'mon $10 steelboooks!!!

I've seen many people on here sell/trade Ultraviolet/download movies. If you get some to sell you could PM me. I might be interested.

It looks like The Last Stand is $14.99, so it'd be $9.99 after coupon, but do any of you think that it could go lower in the future, either during this U&S or a later one? I really enjoyed it, but the fact that the Blu-ray version isn't a BR+DVD combo pack makes that $9.99 price tag not-as-attractive for me.

The Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz combo for $4.99 after the U&S coupon could be the best deal ever.
Yes. Yes, it is. I picked it up for $9.99 from Amazon and it was totally worth it. Steel case for either for $4.99 would be better. Love the Reel Hero steel case cover art.

My perfect haul today:

Workaholics S3 $6.99 (Manual override to PM website)

Scarface red steelbook $4.99

Hot Fuzz/Shaun OT Dead $4.99

Previous pickup:

Night at the Museum Collection $4.99

Elektra/Daredevil/LeagueOEG w/Wolverine cash $9.99

Went with 3 DVDs and could only find Dredd 3D to get.

No sign of Indiana Jones of course.

The other day there were plenty of copies.

Wold love to find that HOT FUZZ/SHAUN of the DEAD! But my BB is of the smaller variety. They never seem to have the great finds that are being posted on this thread!

Great haul today:

-Doctor Who: S5 (x2, the last copies) - $14.99 ea.
-Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures - $27.99 (PM to BBY.com needed due to ringing up at $54.99)
-Shaun of the Dead + Hot Fuzz Double Feature - $4.99
-Shooter - $4.99
-X-Men: First Class w/ The Wolverine movie money - $4.99

My first attempt at trying this offer. Only took 2 movies.

Bought:

Dredd

Step Up: Revolution

Both were $12.99 before coupon.

Well I've had a pretty great haul the past couple of days. Hopefully the steelbooks go on sale before the promotion is over but that seems unlikely.

Indiana Jones complete adventures - $27.99 (had to price match the website and get the $5 taken off)
Workaholics Season 3 - $6.99 (also had to price match the website)
Shaun of the Dead/ Hot Fuzz Combo - $4.99
X-Men - $4.99
X-Men 2 - $4.99
X-Men First Class - $4.99
X-Men Origins Wolverine - $4.99
Project X - $9.99

I already had X-men 3 so didn't need to pick up the trilogy, also was nice that I got $40 Hollywood Movie Money from all these $5 X-men movies as well. I'm tempted to pick up the Scarface limited steelbook for $4.99 too...damn you Best Buy and your great deals.

Picked up :

Amazing Spiderman 3D - $12.99

Texas Chainsaw - $9.99

Dredd - $7.99

Insidious - $4.99

Hills Have Eyes - $4.99

Saw a couple of 3D Pixar movies on sale for $22.99 w/U&S so i'll prob end up going back for those and step up before sale ends :whee:

I just friggin wish they'd figure out a way to make each coupon unique and make it useable online. I have about 8 movies left to trade in from the 20 or so i had for the last sale and the 2 stores near me (and even 2 not as near me) do not have ANy of the ones I was and am currently looking for. I mean maybe they've gotten a new stock but im trying to get Sunshine, Army of Darkness, Donnie Darko 10th anniversary edition, and Dawn of the Dead because they'd only cot $5 a/c and none are to be found in stores. They'd make so much more money if we could trade them in, get a coupon, and use it online. lame. Well i'll hope for the best this time around.

it drives me nuts that Gargoyles doesn;t have a complete set. It probably my farovite 90s cartoon and, since there's 78 episodes, and of the 3 volumes its only 65 episodes, then there's still 13 episodes remaining in a volume 4. Just make "Gargoyles the Complete series" and be done with it!

So, this Wolverine Movie money? Is it like the money during the last promo that was for rare theaters that almost no one lives near? (I had oblivion cash but the theater nearest me that I could use it at was 45 minutes away).

I am probably going to get Xmen 1-3 and wolverine origins to have them all (got First class already for $7.99 last black friday), but if this movie money works at National Amusements (Showcase cinemas) theaters then I am interested and maybe i'll buy the movies individually and get near free passes for friends to see the wolverine. I love this sale! I still have a bunch to trade and i also have $15 extra bucks, so the first 3 xmen films will be free!

I am loving some of the combo packs. i'm trying to own every Marvel super hero film on blu ray so these sales always help. The Daredevil/Elektra/LoEG pack helps too, even though i hated league of extraordinary gentleman and Elektra was kind of boring, but I'll admit, I enjoyed Daredevil.

So when I took my DVDs in, I got one coupon with a receipt on it. The receipt showed all 4 trade-ins and I only used it for 2 BR purchases. I went back in today and grabbed two and they didn't take it from me. Each time, they both said "You can hang onto it since you didn't use all 4." I didn't speak up and mention it being the 4th total movie so it looks like I'll be able to use it again. Just throwing that out there for those of you who get the receipts with 1 coupon. Don't redeem the max and u will be able to hang onto the coupon to redeem more.

Not sure if I will though...I kinda feel I should be using the honor system here but if a deal comes up, it'll be tempting.

If the CS person is cool, they'll just override it down to 4.99.
The store this went down at, the CSR normally is pretty decent about these things but this go around she was firm on not pushing the coupon through.

They said something about the SKU being different from site to store so thats the price difference and even when I showed the SKU's were the same, they still didnt budge.

New Releases available Tuesday 7/30

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Best Buy exclusive Extended Action Cut (Blu+DVD+DC) $14.99 w/U&S coupon ($19.99 regular price)

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox w/ Best Buy exclusive Reverse Flash figurine (Blu+DVD+UV) $14.99 w/U&S coupon ($19.99 regular price)
Standard Edition (Blu+DVD+UV) $12.99 w/U&S coupon ($17.99 regular price)

Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 4 $64.99 w/U&S coupon ($69.99 regular price)

Banshee: The Complete First Season (Blu+DC) $22.99 w/U&S coupon ($27.99 regular price)

Last upgrade and save they gave me 5 coupons staples to a receipt, they did not take off the ones used, nor did they keep them (note: I got 5 blu rays which were coupon applicable, and they scanned 5 coupons). However they kept giving the coupons back to me.

Now they just give coupons, without a trade-in receipt. No hassle either.

Just got:

-Xmen trilogy &14.99 AC (I only needed 2 Movie money coupons, one for me and a friend to see The Wolverine, but also this way I only use one of the U&S coupons instead of 3)

-Wolverine Origins $5 AC

-Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz $5 AC

I also used $15 in rewards coupons so altogether it was like $10 and change. not bad. Sadly my best buy doesnt carry Donnie darko 10th anniversary edition, Sunshine, Demolition Man, or Army of Darkness so that kind of bummed me out. I still have 2 more coupons ill try to use at the other Best Buy thats nearest me.

Once again got denied trying to do an online express lane order with the u&s coupons. The customer service people at the store are clueless and are of no help. Said the coupons are for in store only. Whoever got their orders to work which store was that? Id really like BB to sort this junk out. Same store was able to do it months ago but now they refuse.

I'm up to 20 upgrades for this round. Notable grab tonight was Identity Thief for $9.99. Thought the ad listed higher.

I've had a fairly decent haul so far (wish these movies came with UV instead of digital copy, damn itunes)

MIB - 4.99

MIB2 - 4.99

Bridesmaids - 7.99

Xmen First Class - 4.99

Xmen Origins - 4.99

Xmen Trilogy - 14.99

PotC: Black Pearl - 4.99

Prince of Persia - 4.99

I would like to get Pirates 2 and 3 but they're sold out in my BB and once something is gone during U&S it doesn't seem like it ever comes back in stock sadly.
