Ok.. I have checked online and several sites seem to say you can upgrade from Windows XP to Media Center Edition; however the MS Web site says it can only come preinstalled on a PC or upgraded from a previous version of Media Center.

Does anyone know for sure one way or another on this ? Turning my PC into a Tivo and being able to stream it to the TV through the 360 would solve a couple of my space and cluter issues. Thanks for any help.

its called bit torrent, you learn to love it....lol, but in all honestly it is just like a operating system. you can install it on any pc wit the proper requirements but i doubt if you can upgrade. prolly have to buy ;) a full install disk

correction, you can put it on your computer but it wont work exactly like a media center pc. If you buy a media center pc they come wit a remote. your pc doesnt have all the hardware that a media center pc has, so there would be no reason to upgrade

you need to find media center compatible drivers as well for all your pc components, which can be a bitch...that's why it only comes preinstalled so far...it think...

I downloaded the pdf users guide before installing the Media Center.

They're not just pulling your chain, you really should get it pre-installed. There's all sorts of compatibilty issues and what not.

You heard it here first, don't fu(k around with it.

You can buy it here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16832102311

But you will need to format your hard drive to install it.

Bah this stinks .. I already have all the hardware I need such as the video in connections and the DVR software .. I just wanted to be able to send it to my TV. I've used the video out on my video card to send the whole pc but it looks like crap to me. More so than any of the other stuff people are whining about .. I wish MS would have made Media Connect to be able to stream videos, not just pictures and music.

Too lazy to just jerk off in front of your computer like the rest of us? You need to blow it up on your HDTV?

Strange, I have yet to run into any compatibility issues my BT version of WMC... Only problem is that I have to convert all my avi files to MPEG-2 in order to play the files through my 360.

Btw, how do you use you PC like TiVo? I had no idea it could do that.

Ya know .. there's the comfort issue. With my 360 hooked up to the TV in the bedroom I find it much more comfortable than my piece of crap desk chair.

Plus the added bonus of avoiding any messy keyboard issues.

I built a Media Center PC, and was a real PITA to get the correct drivers, particularly, the codecs for the DVR part. It can be done, but you'll need to research everything to get the compatibility part down.

Did you try looking at http://www.free-codecs.com/ for the codecs. They have a ton.

yeah even after you get media center PC installed, you have to make sure the porn that you wanna stream is wmv or mpeg! But somehow it's worth it in the end, trust me
