Valkyria Chronicles 2 at Amazon for $22.91

I understand I'm in the minority here, but even though the original is my 2nd favorite PS3 game, I don't like the sequel at all.

The battles are tiny and and the environments are super repetitive.

good game, though not as good as the first. Has parts that make it better than first in some respects, but overall I liked the first one better. Definitely worth the $20-something price tag!

I don't keep in the loop on most playstation exclusive titles, but I really liked the first VC after I got my PS3 this past Christmas, otherwise I probably would have already known this is PSP only.

Sad face that they decided to make this one sans PS3, would have loved to play it.

I'm still stumped that they don't bother making these games for the PS3. I can't even play these sequels because it's on a psp in the first place. Heck, I'd buy this on PSN if they ported it for the PS3.

Based on what I've read, if you haven't played VC 1, then you will appreciate this sequel a whole a lot more. I've seen the 1st one being played, and as a fan of these kind tactical/strategic games, I'm optimistic about this PSP version.

With that being said, I'm in for one. Thanks for the heads up, OP!

Is that really the minority? I thought the sequel was a joke compared to the first. I couldn't play more for more than a few hours and I only lasted that long because I loved the first one.

second game got hit hard by metacritic.

Don't exactly disagree with it myself, second was lackluster and repetitive compared to the first.

A part of me died a bit knowing that the VC team will once again try their hands at 3 on PSP. Hardware limitation is what offed-it for me.

Though this is a great deal

It's decent enough, but I got to October in the in-game calendar and just stopped. The story is lacking, the main character is an unlikable joke, and it gets unbelievably repetitive. I think the first game is incredible, but the sequel was a letdown.

With that said, I played the demo for the third game, and I'm optimistic. The mood is drastically different, the characters are stronger, and the new gameplay mechanics make battles feel wholly different. Still wary about getting tired with it because of the limited hardware capabilities, but I've got my fingers crossed.

I imported VC3 because I really doubt it will be localized - and definitely won't be uncut, just like VC2.

The changes are mostly superficial - it's still the same classes as VC2, just a less frustrating way of advancing. Most of the maps are reused from VC2. The only really new stuff is the main characters' special abilities, as far as I can remember.

The story... well, it's just as cliche as the past two games. Just different ones.

(Note I'm not saying it's bad or won't be worth getting, but just... temper your expectations.)
I'll set my expectations to $19.99 or less then.

Appreciated.
While I'm also guilty of setting certain hard lines before purchasing a game, it's usually to prevent myself from spending way too much at once. In the grand scheme of things though, $3 is nothing.

VC1 and VC2 are both excellent games in their own right. VC1 is simply gorgeous, with huge, sweeping battlefields. VC2 is much, much deeper in terms of customization and strategy. And both games have their shortcomings.

Odd, numbers were a bit different during the 1st week of release.

Unless i'm either deprived of sleep at that time or have misplaced my memories since.

*note* i'm not out to bash the VC series, in fact I own more Sega memorabilia than a sane person should. Though that still doesn't discount how dry the second game felt, in-game progress i believe i'm still at June...couldn't muster enough interest to ever pick it back up.

+1 for VC 1/Phantasy star cameos in it though.

What were VC's shortcomings? The only 1 I found that irked me was that the game's ranking system promotes reckless speed over not getting shot at :)

i think the second and third VC came out on the psp because sega catered more towards the japanese audience. in japan, handheld consoles are wayyyy more popular than home consoles, in contrast to here in the u.s. plus, it's a lot cheaper to develop for the psp than the ps3.

It's been a little while, but off the top of my head there was easy abuse of quicksaves, drastically overpowered Scouts (you barely needed to use other classes), and hugely overpowered Orders. Yes, you could ignore most of these if you limited yourself, but a broken game is a broken game.

Before anyone jumps me, VC1 is easily my favorite PS3 game. I love it to death, warts and all. But I bring up those warts when people bash VC2 (ignoring it's improved balance and depth) and act like VC1 was perfect. ;)

Paid that much for it a few months ago when it was on sale on PSN.
