Hello good-looking, internet-savvy PlayStation.Blog readers. Now that you’ve been buttered up a bit, DrinkBox Studios is excited to announce that our new Mexican-themed co-op-multiplayer dimension-swapping Metroid-vania beat-em-up platformer, titled Guacamelee!, will be released through the PlayStation Pub Fund program!

If you have never heard of Guacamelee! the best thing to do is to open your mind, relax, and watch the below trailer:

I know what you are probably thinking…“What is this ‘Pub Fund’? And what does this mean for ME?”

Well it simply means that you can expect Guacamelee! to exclusively launch on the PlayStation®Network for both the PlayStation®3 and the PlayStation®Vita. That’s a lot of ®’s! You can also expect the game to take advantage of the special features offered by each of the platforms (details of these to come later – stay tuned).

Set in a world inspired by Mexican culture, Guacamelee! features a down-on-his-luck agave farmer named Juan Aguacate, who sets out to save the world when El Presidente’s Daughter is kidnapped by an Evil Charro Skeleton. The story takes place in and around a small village in Mexico, and has the player travelling through “The World of the Living” and “The World of the Dead” on his quest to rescue the girl he loves.

We’ll be showing the game next week at E3 running on both the PS3 and the PS Vita. And for up-to-date development news, make sure to follow us on Twitter @DrinkboxStudios, and check out our blog here. Also, feel free to shoot us any questions you have in the comments below, and we will try to answer them the best we can!

Finally, we leave you with a chicken.

Watched videos of this game this morning for the first time. Looks pretty slick, but it also looks like if the controls suck it could be pretty frustrating. Has it been mentioned if its cross play on the co-op? Maybe I missed that.

I'm asking them now about that. They did mention that it has Cross-Controller support, so you can play the PS3 version with your Vita as the controller.

I can confirm that it doesn't support Cross-Play with people on the other console. Local Co-op only for now.

This is a day one purchase for me. I've been looking forward to this game for awhile and I'm glad it's finally got a release date.

Cross-controller also turns the Vita screen into a mini-map.

Anytime a game is described as Metroidvania, i pay attention. Add in the mexican luchador theme? Sold. Will download tomorrow. Need a reason to play the vita right now.

Bought this and started playing it on Vita. It's really good so far. Earned the first ability to be able to break the red blocks around levels. I'm liking all of the gaming and other references that they've fit into the game without it breaking the style of the world.

Picked it up last night but didn't get started on it. I was busy finishing up Plants vs. Zombies, can't wait though.

Same here man..buying it over my lunch and hoping it downloads quick enough for me to start before I head back to work.

Finished the game up today at 8 hours. I'm missing two treasures.

The platforming in Tule Tree kept me busy for a good hour. >_<

In any case, I loved it. It's got a great system. It's easy to pick up. It's short enough to stay interesting. I'll probably go back for those two treasures and then come back later to finish up on hard. Then I just need to figure out how to beat the final boss using only melee attacks and I should have the platinum. :D

Good to hear. I am about an hour in and absolutely love the game. Drinkbox is quickly rising to the top of my favorite dev's. This and MBA are damn good.

Absolutely love this game, but it is so frustrating, control-wise on some of the harder stuff (thinking tule tree orb).

Trying to mop up before facing the final boss, but doing so is causing me to love the game a lot less.

Probably should just skip the frustration for now and finish the game.

I finished this up last night on normal. After game clock said it took me 5:30 hours but I think it may have been closer to 6. I guess I didn't do a lot of the optional stuff. The last boss fight was a little strange but a lot of fun. Overall another great game from drinkbox!
