That version is a remix.

yes there is its called maladroit.

This album will rock! Thanks for finding that clip. I assume it's from dubbed 21?

Also, fuck these naysayers.

=w==============================================

I've liked all their albums thus far. My favorite is hard to pick, some days it's the Blue Album, sometimes Pinkerton, for one crazy week it was Maladroit. Anyhow, here's hoping they go on tour near me again, they're pretty fun to see live.

If nothing else you've got to admit that it's better than the steaming pile that "Beverly Hills" was.

"Beverly Hills" was melodic and sold like hotcakes, as intended. And even if you don't like the song, the solo with the talkbox is actually really great, even better live.

It's entertaining for a more "poppy" sounding album. Also, I thought they broke up. When did they get back together?

Yeah, Zen is right, they just took a break. Rivers was graduating from school and getting married so he put the band on hold for a bit. There was a far longer break between Pinkerton and Green.
This has got me worried for the new album.
Why so? It sounds like Weezer. Obviously, "Automatic" has Pat singing, not Rivers, but it sounds great. Of course, having someone else other than Rivers sing is not so odd when you factor in that Scott sings "Dope Nose" when they perform live. Also, Pat sings in his other band, The Special Goodness.

Again, I'm totally stoked. Pat has even said that "Automatic" is really kickass and far more rock than that remix would lead you to believe.

I actually thought it sounded pretty good from the video. Just the scratching at the end bothered me.

Sad but true. The first two albums imported singles are the only other thing I'd add. There's a lot of good stuff there.

Jamie FTW!!!

I was very very disappointed with Make Believe - worst album they've put out by miles. I LOVE Pinkerton and the Blue Album and I really like the Green Album and Maladroit. I actually agreed with the Pitchfork review (*shudder*) of Make Believe...

Really? Because I thought "Make Believe" was great. I was a bit worried after hearing "Beverly Hills" but all my doubts were cast aside when I heard the second track, "Perfect Situation," which could have easily been on the green album. And "Beverly Hills" is crazy melodic so it eventually grew on me (and millions of others based on that song's sales alone) and, like I said earlier, I love that guitar/talkbox solo in the song. I agree with you guys that Weezer has some great b-sides and demos that need more attention (like Jamie, You Gave Your Love To Me Softly, Teenage Victory Song, etc.) but I don't think anything that has made the albums is second rate by any means.

I'm not really feeling that song from the clip, however it could just be a remix of older stuff.

Personally I'd say the order of their albums are

1. Blue/Pink (Can't choose)
2. Maladroit
3. Make Believe
4. Green

Not saying that green was bad, I just didn't like it that much.

Did you guys see that Rivers was making a song with the YouTube?

I applaud your taste in music, Zen. Weezer kicks ass. Unfortunately, their last three albums don't sound like Pinkerton/Blue and people just can't get over that fact, even if their new stuff is good. I think Rivers has obviously evolved as a person and his music has evolved as well. I appreciate you trying to show how great Weezer still is but some people are just stuck on those two albums. Keep fighting the good fight, my man.

P.S. Those videos and no Paperface?

P.P.S. My screen name wasn't just pulled out of a hat, you know!

Thanks man. I really didn't want to just throw up all the good unreleased tracks. Everything in moderation right? ;)

As for my taste in music, I'm sure there are plenty plenty that think it completely sucks. It's all subjective. I've been listening to the new Presidents of the United States CD lately. It's pretty great. Not to go off topic but here is the first single. What do you think?

I liked Maladroit.

I don't like the fact that We Are All On Drugs is one fucking run-on sentence (which may be a slight exaggeration...but not much of one). This Is Such a Pity and Perfect Situation were decent, but the lyrics on the album have devolved so much since...hell, since Maladroit, that I'm still not convinced that Rivers Cuomo was actually responsible for them. Weezer's never been a great band lyrically, but a lot of what was on Make Believe was so bad it was almost embarrassing.

I'm willing to give them another shot because every band is allowed a few misfires, but Make Believe isn't anywhere near the quality of anything else they've done oer their career.
God damn you half Japanese girls! Weezer is awesome!
QFT!

Also, I like that single from the Presidents of the USA, Zen. It's no Weezer, but it aint bad by any means. I actually like the Presidents of the USA, I just haven't listened to them in a while.

01. Question to Bassist Scott Shriner -

I love fender bass guitars and i was wondering if you always have played fenders? what types of bass guitars did you use on album 6? - inthegarageallthetime (Blake Ferrin) Salem, OR

Answer:

Hey, Blake.
On Maladroit and Make Believe, I played the same 2 basses. But on album 6, I recorded a total of 8 different basses. Warwick Thumb, Dirty Blonde, Rickenbacker, my '65 jazz bass, a Guild Starfire and even a WAL...no shit….and my '62 P bass of course. Also a '72 P bass I just got. The '60 P bass got a rest on this record. My first bass was a Peavey t40 then I got a '74 Jazz bass (the one I always regret selling) I got a Steinburger that changed my life (until it got stolen) and I got my Music Man Stingray. Then ….i got into an old Warwick Thumb (one of the real early ones) another bass I regret selling. I had a cool Spector bass for a while it sounded amazing. I smashed it at a Vanilla Ice show in Ventura, CA. Playing with Ice will make you do crazy shit!! God love him. Uhhhh do you really want me to go on? I will go on and on. THEN I got another Music man Stingray…great basses indeed. Then I lost everything in the deep hole of my life known as 1999.

02. Rich Costey is mixing The Red Album.

For those of you unfamiliar with Costey, he mixed several tracks on Make Believe, and is responsible for adding the “magic” to Beverly Hills.

Oh, I like "O Girl." It actually has a very Green album sound too it, which makes sense since it was a SS2K song. Maybe it was cut because the title is too similar to "O Girlfriend?"

In sad news, I actually went through and cleaned up all my Weezer mp3s; the demos, live stuff, and such. I actually have 3GBs of Weezer despite the fact that they only have 5 real albums, not counting "Alone" or " The Lion and the Witch." I spent hours renaming them, categorizing them, giving album art to the demos and what not. And then my harddrive died. I had archived all my music a week before, but not after the changes. So much work down the drain. Grrrr...

Also, maybe we should change the thread title to the "Weezer Appreciation Thread." LOL.

P.S. Wonder what happened to Scott in 1999?

I won't say I *hate* Weezer after Pinkerton...but imo, what made Weezer great was the combination of Rivers and Matt Sharp. When Matt left, I just think the band changed. Matter of fact, I prefer The Rentals' stuff to post-Pinkerton Weezer.

Rivers wrote all of the songs and parts and gave them to everyone else to preform. In fact he performed ALL the guitar parts on Blue. Brian Bell just did some backing vocals. It's why Pat and Matt acted like jackasses (not a bad thing) during live shows and the videos and why Matt ended up leaving.

But to give you some warmth in your opinions, here are the very last performances from Matt Sharp and Rivers Cuomo together.

Album 6 Promo Image

1. Album release date. This has been reported as being June 17th. This is very likely, however release dates are never truly guaranteed until a week or two before the album arrives. So its probably 6/17, with a small chance of changing.

2. The Album's title. The album has been reported as being self titled, i.e. just called "Weezer" like the Blue and Green albums were. This is also very likely. In fact, as of last Friday, it was technically not possible to change it - unless the release date is changed too. So we can say its very unlikely to change.

3. The Album's theme (color). This has been reported as "The Red Album". This is a strong possibility but it is not for sure. As I understand things, many competing visual ideas are being played off against each other (none of which would affect the self titled aspect), and some are "Red" in style or concept. But whether this ends up as the final theme remains to be seen.

4. First single. Confirmed as being "Pork And Beans". Could this change? Maybe a tiny chance of that. But it is definitely a song on the album (and it is unrelated to the demo song "Pig" that made it onto the internet in '06). As for the release date of this single, this information is TBD, likewise the potential (if any) for "physical" single format(s).

5. Other songs on the album. Many song titles have been kicked around the 'net, including "Everybody Get Dangerous", "Automatic", "Ms. Sweeney", "?" (a '12 letter word starting with T and ending with R'), "I'm the Greatest Man That Ever Lived", "Daydreamer". All are real weezer songs, but none are 100% confirmed as actually being on the album as of this writing.

6. Producer/Mixer. The album was made in 3 phases, produced by Rick Rubin (Malibu, spring '07), Weezer (mostly) (Malibu, summer/fall '07), and Jacknife Lee and Weezer (Santa Monica, early '08), and was mixed by Rich Costey.

Weezer is still a great band. Rivers is still an incredible songwriter.

However.

What I fell in love with about the early Weezer stuff (Blue/Pink) was the honesty of it all. The desperate screams scattered throughout Pinkerton, the fact that Rivers was brutally honest with himself lyrically, the delightful imperfectness of the harmonization- listen to The Good Life, that essentially optimizes why I fell in love with Weezer. Nowadays, the songs they put out are pleasant enough, but lack the emotional punch that their first two records provided. Example: listen to Don't Let Go and No Other One, back to back. It's like listening to someone read a song off of a sheet of paper, and then listening to someone pour their heart out into what they sing.

That all being said, I think their post-Pinkerton albums were rather good, just not by early Weezer standards.

Why do you have the new album as June 26th while the official site has a tentative date of June 17th? Did Rivers or Geffen (or their parent company, Interscope) say otherwise?
Why do you have the new album as June 26th while the official site has a tentative date of June 17th? Did Rivers or Geffen (or their parent company, Interscope) say otherwise?
I done fucked up. It's nothing more complicated than that. ;)

Any band that namechecks ECW is alright with me. I like me some Weezer.

*Note - the previous statement excludes ICP. "Sabu'd your mom through a coffee table" is just lame.

Weezer Fan Made Tribute Album! Good stuff! - Weerez.com
PLEASE READ THIS POST BEFORE DOWNLOADING

Okay guys, it's done. With 44 tracks in all, we cranked out a hell of a collection. I must say, i'm super proud of all you guys. Some of these covers are great, and some of them are well, fucking amazing.

First of all, I unfortunately fucked up beyond repair with the song explanations. iTunes limits the amount of space for comments, so most of them were all cut off after about 3 sentences. Rather than asking everybody to resend them and put this thing off for another couple days, I'm releasing it as is. You can view the song descriptions in the comments seciton for iTunes, but realize that some are missing and some are cut off. That was my bad. If you really want, you can post them here for people to read.

FINALLY: Voting for songs to make the 15 song "album" that we will be sending to Karl will take place one week from today. So dont even think about voting yet. Take this time to listen to every song carefully, and keep all aspects of the song in mind when deciding your favorites. We can talk about the submissions here.

Once again, thank you all for participating.

There are two real Weezer tribute albums already out, so this makes three. Well, four if you count that classical rendition of Weezer songs. Don't get me wrong, they deserve tribute albums because they have influenced a lot of bands and they kick a ton of ass. But, how many Weezer tributes do we need?

Also, no one plays Weezer like Weezer.

There are a lot of good tracks on this version. Waiting on You, Don't Let Go, Purification of Water, Simple Pages, Walt Disney, Across The Sea, and Peace are all worth listening to at least once. These are all heavily indie influenced so it's a unique experience.
