And as an extra note, what musicals do you want to see made into movies, and which ones do you wish to see on stage at a later time.

In order:
1st question: Wicked
2nd Question: WIcked and Avenue Q
3rd question: Legally Blonde (the music is great, both my wife and I love the music, and we saw it on tv when MTV 2 hosted a showing of it), and Avenue Q

STOMP! Outloud (if that counts), The Lion King, and The Drowsy Chaperone.
Saw them in 2008, 2008, and 2006 respectively.

The Drowsy Chaperone was definitely the best of the three.

Saw Avenue Q in NY two weeks ago. Awesome.

I was surprised I knew one of the songs. (The internet is for porn)

I saw The Lion King about two years ago as it was nationally touring, and a few months prior to that I saw Phantom of the Opera in London at its original venue, which was neat.

Back in 1996, I took my wife to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in Boston for her birthday, because that was when Donny Osmond was starring as Joseph, and she's always really liked him. I'm not exactly a musicals type of guy, but I have to admit it was very good, and a lot of fun.

Haven't been to another one since, though.

Spamalot in Chicago, and a year or two before it Phantom of the Opera in Chicago. Phantom was excellent, was about two rows from the front, center stage... it was great. Spamalot was really good, but I was higher up in a balcony, so it was harder to see everything.

Well for the last 3 years I have been a spotlight tech for a dinner theater, so I've seen about 25 lame and /or bad musicals 5-10 good musicals about 110 times each.

Grease
Cats
Stand by your man
Are we there yet
Church basement ladies
White Christmas (over 300 times)
Buddy Holly

thats all I remember off the top of my head

Edit: I did see a an awesome performance of Assassins at a small "hip" independent theater about 6 months ago.

Check it out if you get the chance its amazing

#1 Phantom in Denver, which was excellent, as expected.
#2 Miss Saigon
#3 Too many to list... I've only ever gotten to actually see Spamalot and Phantom :(
it was either oklahoma or dracula baby.........junior high i think.
last mvie musical i saw was chicago. great stuff.

Avenue Q on stage, Singin' in the Rain on film.

Also, although it isn't a musical, I'd say The 39 Steps is the best show on Broadway at the moment--especially if you're into Alfred Hitchcock and awesome humor.

Saw my girlfriend at the time in A Christmas Story several years ago, I think that was the last one. I would kill to see the Evil Dead Musical.

I remembered this thread from a couple weeks ago so I figured this would be a good place to ask. So I'm taking my girlfriend to see Wicked at the end of June. I'm curious what I'm in for since I know nothing of it, other than its like a precursor story to the Wizard of Oz. Do you folks think this is something an average guy could enjoy or am I going to want to blow my brains out?

Miss Saigon 3 or so years ago. Last thing I saw on the stage was the Edward Scissorhands ballet a year or two ago.

I know I've gone to a few shows in the last decade but I'm drawing a blank. Maybe because they weren't things I chose but instead got sent to as part of a promotion or some other reason.

For some odd reason the show that stands out in memory is 'Plan 9 From Outer Space: The Musical' at the Matrix Theater in LA. It was very funny and I would have bought a soundtrack CD if they'd had one available. But this was about 15 years ago. Why can't I remember anything more recent?

I just saw Wicked a month ago and it was my first broadway musical. It was awesome. I didn't know what to expect and took my wife for our 5 year anniversary. Wicked has a lot of humor and hopefully you'll love it.

I had heard they are making a movie for it too! I am looking forward to seeing Phantom in Orlando next year.

My college's production of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hide the Musical last year. I was required to be an usher and to write a paper on it for my Intro to Humanities class.

It was pretty good, though it really had a lot of singing compared to movie musicals. It had to be at least 90% singing 10% dialog conspired to the more even split in Nightmare Before Christmas, 1776 and Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog.

I'm now remindedof what I think was my first musical. When I was in fifth or sixth grade, they bussed the lot of us over to a local high school where they'd been putting on a production of Lil' Abner, which ran on Broadway in the 50s.

The kicker here was the girl playing Daisy Mae. She couldn't have been more than 17 and looked hotter than any recent centerfold. Watching that play was like a magic trigger that launched puberty for our whole class. The boys were drooling and the girls all drew on instinct to roll their eyes and mutter under their breath, "Bitch."

Spring Awakening was the last one i saw, I got to sit on stage as part of the "student" audience. That was pretty cool.
I also got to see In the Heights just before it went to Broadway. It was great then and I hear it is better now. It is also rumored to be going to the big screen as well.

"Man of La Mancha" performed at the local community college a couple of years ago. It was actually a very good performance.

EDIT: No, wait. It was "South Pacific." I saw Rave Child's post below and I remembered that I saw South Pacific about 3 weeks after "Man of La Mancha." Anyway, MoLM Was much better than South Pacific.

I saw Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, with Sarah Brightman and Micheal Crawford when I was in Junior High. Went on a trip to NY. I figured I've kind of peaked on the musical thing, so I have no idea about the other questions.
