what type of screws do dualshock 3's use

Buy an eyeglass repair kit that has a Philips head screwdriver in it and you should be set.

Or just go to a dollar store and you can get a whole set of the mini type screwdrivers. That's what I use on my controllers for the PS1/PS2/PS3.

I also bought a full screwdriver/bit set from Sears or someplace a couple years ago on clearance. It even has the star shaped screwdriver bits like you need for some consoles.
