When did you start using Google?

How did you find out about it? What search engines did you use before Google?

I think I stated using Google around 1998 or 1999 when my 8th grade science teacher told us to use it while finding information for a project. I used msn, altavista, hotbot, Lycos, Yahoo, and Ask Jeeves before it. Now I mostly use Google, but I sometimes use Yahoo and Bing.com as well.

I probably used it first in 2001; by 2003 I was using it on a regular basis.

It is still my search engine of choice though I sometimes use Bing. Bing is nice when looking for pictures because it can look for similar pictures in a different size.

I think it was around 99', before I used Yahoo, Lycos and Altavista. I still use it most of the time because I browse with Firefox primarily.

I've used Google since my first days on the computer back in 2001. I've tried others, but they suck. I'll be a loyal Google fanboy forever now. (Also have Gmail and use Google Maps on my phone daily.)

I used to use Yahoo, mainly in the good ol' days - during the 98-2000 Yahoo homepage - but then switched over to google when I started to see better and more accurate results showing up. I still treked to Yahoo from time to time, but then they remodeled their homepage several times and it's been mostly shit, outside of a maybe a back up to see different results. Their sports/news is great however. Also, back in the day I used to use dogpile and MSN as a backup.

Now, I use Google, but I have been using Bing more and more since Bing has been doing what Google used to do: give me excellent/accurate results without me having to wade and search through spam/junk links. Also, I feel Microsoft gets a bad rap, while the media, and people in general, let Google run amok and do whatever they want, be it encroach on privacy, etc because they're Google and so I disagree with several of their so called "Do No Evil" policies. Also, Bing Maps/Images destroys Google. I hear Hotmail has vastly improved, but I don't know how easy it'd be to switch to hotmail after relying on Gmail for so many years.

i dled that toolbar dealy years ago and just used the search portion on a whim but noticed it was better than every other search engine. i hate that damn bing.

hell if i know

whenever it first started. had the best porn results. and in dialup days....accuracy matters!

When I first gained access to the Internet, I used Altavista. After, I moved to Yahoo. For quite some time now, I have used Google. I tried Yahoo, in recent years, but their search results seem a lot less precise and deep than Google.

Yeah, I used Altavista too, after being liberated from the clutches of America Online. Lycos a little bit. Switched to Dogpile literally a few days before I found out about Google. I think in 99 or 00 I heard people saying Google's search results were far more accurate than others, tried it out, found that to be true, and haven't used anything else since. Of course, nowadays there's few "shitty" search engines in the upper tier of them all.

Once I found Mozilla (pre-Firefox), it was like a perfect harmony. Especially if you added in Winamp (at least up until America Online bought them out and all the devs bailed because of AOL pushing too much bloat).

I dont remember really. Whenever they first started gmail and you had to get a invite to use it. I got a invite and started using google as my homepage and search engine.

Now I am addmitely addicted to google. I am truly impressed at the sheer amount of things you can do with google for absolutely free that goes way beyond just the tabs and services you find on googles webpage.

forget what i first used. I think i bounced around, i know a messed w/ jeeves, yahoo, etc. I know I was a loyal dogpile user up until i heard about google. No clue when that was....used google ever since.

I started when I found out it was really quick to use on a Dial up connection...

It became my main search engine when they took "Jeeves" out of "Askjeeves.com".

He was a good man who deserved better...

I only started using Google this year - I used to use Yahoo all of the time but recently found that the excessive number of rollover ads and all the rest of the "rich media content" kept giving my computer seizures (my current PC isn't so awesome), so I switched up my homepage to Google. I'll never go back.

Either one of the creators or an employee was on Jeopardy a loooooong time ago and they talked about it during the little chatting session they do between rounds. I started using it after that, don't know when it was.
