Where Is _____ Hip-Hop Thread

rite now I am wasting my time on the internet when I should be doing other things -_-

I fuckin hate myspace man... the site is so dumb and full of ppl who jus want attention but have no other means/talents/interesting traits to genuinely receive it. I was on it for half a year back in 05 but decded it wasnt for me...

but I think I should get back on it for non-social reasons... becoz random internet browsing a few moments ago lead me to this:

Considering Imani, Fatlip and Slimkid3 did that song with the Jazz Liberators, I wouldn't be surprised if a reunion wasn't announced in the next year

Yeah, I've got that album. I picked it up for $1 at Tower when they were closing!

I can't wait for tonight! Guerilla Union put me on the guestlist for a private concert at the Roxy featuring Common and Cut Chemist!
I can't wait for tonight! Guerilla Union put me on the guestlist for a private concert at the Roxy featuring Common and Cut Chemist!
Wow enjoy that

Just got back from the Roxy. The Common/Cut Chemist show at the Roxy was one of three that made up one big event called the Sunset Strip Block Party. The other two shows were Z-Trip at the Viper Lounge and Linkin Park/The Crystal Method at the Key Club. Supernatural showed up at the Roxy, too, doing his usual shticks.

Cut Chemist's set was just all right to me. The songlist didn't particularly strike me. I've seen him quite a few times and I think he's put on better shows. I remember seeing him go to work with Nu-Mark some years back with J5 -- he was really on point then.

Common's set was great, except too short. I think he did about 10 songs. Still, I can't complain when I got a free invitation to a private show. There were only around 200 people there, and many of them were disinterested suits sipping on drinks in the back, so it was real easy to get up close and personal with the acts. On top of that, the venue was serving hors d'oeuvres as well! First time I've ever seen that...

Just went through all the post from this month alot to read but I think I am up to date now.

I hate not being in Cali and missing all those concerts. Lupe, Pigeon, Fatlip and now Common this is going to kill me.

Rapsodist thanks for review sounds like you had a good time and it was a good show.

I remember when the first time I saw Common back in like 2000, I thought dood was racist!!

I saw sum white guy see him in the crowd and tried to give him a hi-five, and common reached out for the guy's wrist and threw it to the side!!

I also ran into Pep Love and tried to shake his hand but he just stared at me... what a dick! and I was only like 14 or 15 too so I was sad...

but Tajai and A-Plus were real nice doods!!

I finally got sum new toys also:

My "had to wait but got them" emusic downloads this month:

Artist: Army Of Pharaohs
Album: Ritual of Battle

Artist: Hangar 18
Album: Sweep The Leg

Artist: Iller Than Theirs
Album: Iller Than Theirs

Artist: Junk Science
Album: Gran'Dad's Nerve Tonic

Artist: Special Teamz
Album: Stereotypez

Artist: Peanut Butter Wolf
Album: B Ball Zombie War

Only listened to Special Teamz, B Ball Zombie War and just starting Army Of The Pharaohs.

Jekki you are right that Special Teamz is a banger and B Ball Zombie War is gold of course but what do you expect from Stones Throw. Three songs in on Army Of The Pharaohs and it sounds as good or maybe better than the first one but have to wait and see.

what's Junk Science?? never heard of them, worth checkin out??

and that Army of the Pharoahs shyt is whatever... it's dope but gets worse after each listen just like the last one... but it's still a good album.

that new cat tho, Demoz, who's in like over half the songs on the album... that dood sucks!!

anyway new Buck 65 album tomorrow:
Let me know how the Junk Science album is and what you think of Hangar 18.
The Junk Science is alot more laid back then their first record but it is still a banger with one listen through. Hangar 18 is the same way it feels like both albums are more relaxing but I still get dizzy with how fast these guys spit but that is the reason I like them.

Jekki and senorwoohoo if you want to check out the new albums go to free.napster.com and listen to the whole albums without downloading anything or registering.

Also Jekki I know you will appreciate this:
Showbiz & AG - "The Show & A Experience: Live Hard" - EXCLUSIVE DIGITAL-ONLY RELEASE - First new studio project from Showbiz and AG since 1998's "Full Scale", and we've got the worldwide exclusive digital rights, for a limited time only. Plus, there's more Show & AG back-catalog action coming later this week....

I was driving home listening to Tha Liks and it got me thinking about why don't I support artists that have been putting out quality music for years? I mean I did this to Boot Camp Clik and their solo efforts and later I buy the albums and think why did I not buy this when it was released and boost their sales and maybe get more releases more frequently. Maybe the Tha Liks would not have broken up if everyone bought their albums.

Good points and that's why I try to support artists like Panacea, Blu & Exile and others that need it more than the big names...who I also tend to support anyway.

Also, about the Hangar 18 album, it's growing on me, but some of the beats still turn me off.

I gave it only one listen but the beats didn't bother me but I will have to give a couple of listens to know for sure.

Also check out Iller Than Theirs if you haven't already because that one is definitely going into my car for continuous play.
Can you compare Iller Than Theirs to anything or should I just get it?
Well I will point you to the way fartbubble found them on a review from Okayplayer. I found them on Emusic with a sort of blind buy by just listening to clips of their album. Then searching for more info on the guys found out they are on Embedded which put out Junk Science and others I like.

This is my favorite quote from the review and is probably why I had a hard time comparing them to someone else:
Iller Than Theirs sound could easily be dismissed as ‘boom-bap throwback,’ however, their lyrical content sets them aside from other artists in that particular sub-genre.
Thanks a lot, headpiece.

I should've checked that review since I write for OKP.
Wait what you write for OKP when and how did I miss this? That is cool as hell and what have you written for them.

I've been writing a review or two a month since April. I usually review underground hip-hop and some electronica/jazz stuff as well as random rock stuff.

Search their site for reviews of Intuition, the Landau Orchestra, Dooley-O, Against Me! and Izmore, for example.

I also get to keep the CDs.

The Basement Tapes obviously appeals to a certain listener, but that doesn’t mean people bumping Soulja Boy can’t appreciate this. Take a break from the snappy beats and simple lyrics plaguing the radio today and let Dooley-O give you an enjoyable hip-hop history lesson.

Also for All Hallows Eve:

Nujabes + Shing02 anyone?

Beats bomb as hell, so are the lyrics. I don't care how old it is, it's one of my favorite songs EVER.

I'd support nujabes and all those other kickass producers overseas, but I don't have the dough right now :/

We can't forget about DJ's now, back from 2002:

NICE!!!

You could at least buy the Samurai Champloo Soundtrack. Battlecry is on there and you be able to get it for about the price of any other CD.

Now I'm just checkin' out the producers themselves.

I can honestly only get into the straight up DJ tracks on DJ Kentaro's album 'ENTER'. I can handle the others, but sometimes the MC kills it for me with some bland/repetitive/over-explicit lyrics.

Some of the tracks like this one are the ones I REALLY enjoy and could put on repeat for awhile - "Tasogare Highway High"

tha Liks tho... they had like 5 albums man... the last one only came out like last year. I think that's way better than what a lot of artists can do.

I wish I heard Tash's solo record tho...

anywayz, Pharcyde last nite was whatever. the show was dope (sans opening acts) but it was a fuckin tuesday evening, everybody had work the next day and it's like 12:30am n shyt. There wasnt even 50 ppl in attendance either, shyt was kinda dead! at least ppl enjoyed the tre/fatlip set.

Tre looks hella young too... he's all well shaven and cut his dreads and looks thin... it's like he not even the same dood!!

Tash's record is great with alot of dope cuts like Rap Life w/ Raekwon and Berumda Triangle to name a few.

A Tuesday show doesn't sound fun at all and less than 50 people that is crappy. At least you got to see them live.

Where is Fat Lip or Kwest Tha Madd Lad? It is like some emcees drop an album and then drop off the face of the earth. Who are some people that you listen to that only have one record and you wish they had more?
Holy crap this is one hell of a coincidence because I started this about where is Kwest Tha Madd Lad and this pops up on Ughh.com:
In a response to a Hip Hop “Where Are They Now?” question, Queens lyricist, Kwest Tha Mad Ladd finally resurfaces. Connecting with No Sleep Recordings, Kwest is releasing to the world all the joints that did not make his first album.
Kwest Tha Madd Lad - 'These Are My Unreleased Recordings' (CD) is the name and I can't wait.

You are, the Blueprint and the Black Album were good shit, though much less so than Reasonable Doubt.

I'm probably gonna check it out - I've heard nothing but good things about it.

How do y'all think the new Wu-Tang album is gonna turn out?

I hated that first Hangar 18 album... shyt sounded like a bunch of white boys rapping like white boys.

New Smif n Wessun is dope btw... but it packs no surprises. You heard one of their records you heard them all.

still... that means if you ever liked one of their records you'll like this one!
