:)

i just bought my girlfriend a 30 gig black video ipod tonight! it was a bitch to find it in stock at a bestbuy though, let me tell you.

A word of warning to you guys looking to get an ipod:

DON'T GET AN INSCRIPTION!

If the ipod craps out on you (and quite a few of them do) Apple will NOT replace one that has an inscription on it. Just letting everyone know why the service is "free."

Rig,

do you think it is worth it then to get the Applecare protection plan? is it important both if and if not getting an inscription?

he's right, it voids the factory warranty or something.
You can spend $50 more and get an 30GB iPod Video. It's not like iPod is freaking huge. It fits perfectly in a pocket. The Nano is good for people who care about aestheics. A more savy consumer would definately go with a regular sized iPod.

Unless you have like 200 mp3s total. Then get a Nano because 30GB would be overkill.
Get the 30 gig for an extra $50 trust me its so worth it. Also apple it pretty tight on the reins of their pricing. So you will be paying Full MSRP 99% of the time.

No, he's wrong. They'll send you another iPod with the same inscription on it. You cannot, howeverm return customized items.

Yup. It will take a bit longer for repairs because they have to give you the same case back, especially for battery replacement. I heard it goes up from 2 weeks to 6 weeks. Personalizing it really do reduce the resale value, but it also lessens theiving. So, its your call. If your a college student, definitely get the inscription. Otherwise, you just need to weigh your odds.

FYI they dont skip...cause if a hard drive "skipped" it would be the head crashing, which would trash the unit most likely.

I've had 4 Ipods since the first one - all flawless - buy a video ipod, put some porn on it and some ISOs for some games, and of course some tunes - it owns.

Where's subbie? I swear he (or maybe it was javeryh?) had a topic a while back about getting an inscription on their ipod, and when something was wrong with it, Apple told them he was SOL.

Okay, so I went to Apple's site: http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/salespolicies.html#Product%20Warranty and look what I found:

Please note that Apple does not permit the return of or offer refunds for the following products:
 1. Product that is custom configured to your specifications
 2. Opened memory
 3. Opened software*
 4. Electronic software downloads
 5. Personalized iPods
 6. Software Up to Date Program Products (SW upgrades)
CUSTOM-CONFIGURED PRODUCT
We are pleased to offer product that is custom-configured to your specifications, and we encourage you to review your order carefully. Since the product is built to your specifications, the order cannot be changed, modified, or canceled once your order is in production.

Maybe Apple will repair ingraved ones. I thought that it fell under those categories though...
