At least from my standpoint this is what I see as wrong with our system.
1- Democrats and republicans should not exist. How can you have 2 groups trying to run a country for the betterment of all its people when those 2 groups are diametrically opposed to each other? Their job should only be about the well being of this country and the people in it as a whole, there should be no arguing or different opinions based purely on some label they slap on their group. If some people should have different ideas thats fine, but they shouldn't disregard others simply because they "arent part of their gang". This kind of segregation will not help the people as a whole. They are often thoughtless and mindless about the other parties ideas simply because they are pitted against each other which only makes each side more adamant they are right and the other is absolutely wrong. Even regular citizens are all about their side and are quick to dismiss the other side. No one cares about whats best for everyone, they care about their side winning and their side being right. It does nothing but foster into our country the need to be separate, to be part of a group, to take sides instead of fostering togetherness and unity. We should all be on the same side.
2- Religion should not be allowed to even be mentioned in politics or government or congress. Religious beliefs of a few should not be allowed to factor into decision making for millions and millions of people who dont believe in religion, or the millions who have a different religion. Religion has no place for the government that should solely be only worried about the countries well being and cold hard facts and reality. Its fine to have a religion, but using it as a political factor should not even be considered.
3- Congress should be made up of real people. Not career politicians that are catered to and live comfortable lives and are outside of "the common man". Congress really needs to all go and be replaced with people from across the country like fire chiefs, hospital directors, physicians, police chiefs, school super attendants, and so on. Im not saying just anyone but we need people that are involved in areas that matter and can bring a variety of experiences and insight from the actual real world to the table. Im not saying those people are somehow better people but they are more in touch with what happens to large demographics of people and have more experience with how the country runs from the street vs sitting in DC looking at everything from above.
