Wii Mini - $99.99 - Canada Holiday Exclusive

Is this the first time a new version of a console has been released AFTER the developer publicly said they will no longer be supporting making new games for it?

Would have to see if games were still made for the NES and SNES after their re-designs.

The last NES game was made in around 92 or 93. I'm sure that some publishers will still release budget games for the Wii.
How hard is it to find a NIB Wii that plays cube games? At retail locations like Walmart etc...
Pretty hard. The first non-backward compatible ones came out last Christmas and I'm pretty sure all of the current bundles feature that non-backward compatible model.

That's what I was thinking. I guess I am going to have to go the used route. I haven't had a Nintendo Console since I bought 2 N64's.

Last question how much Wii Mote waggling is in Mario Galaxy 1 and 2?

So basically...they're taking out all of the good stuff in it, & expecting you to pay more than you would for the regular edition of a Wii? God damn it; you're a genius Nintendo! There's so many stupid people who'll buy this!

It just bothers me when stuff like this happens. We don't need another shit-brick paperweight, we need more software; more games. Make better stuff, earn more respect from the community. Make a trip back in time, get punched in the face. Twice.

On an unrelated note; eat a dick, Capcom.

Any waggling is too much for me and there is A LOT in Mario Galaxy unfortunately. You have to waggle to do the spin move. That waggling nonsense is why I skipped the Wii.

Yeah, waggle-hate is overblown. It really isn't that much of an issue in the SMG games. Yeah, you have to do it occasionally but it isn't all that bad and the games are well worth it.
I guess this is the version for people who've never heard of pawn shops. You can get a Wii for $40 all day, $25 when they have too many in stock. Who really needs a brand new Wii at this point?
I've been hearing these prices ($40-$50) a lot. I have an original Wii to get rid of now and I'm seeing them for about $85 shipped on eBay (that is complete with all cables, remote + nunchuk). I guess I won't take mine to a pawn shop to sell ;). They must give about $15 tops for them.
I want to sell my Wii as well and then get a cheap gamecube. My Wii has gamecube support so Ebay would be best for that?
Just out of curiosity, why do you want to trade a system that basically has a gamecube built into it with the advantage of component output (I think component was only available on one older gamecube model)...and the wii features to boot...for just a gamecube?

Liked the GB Micro and I'd buy one of these once they hit $50 for the heck of it.

No internet on this thing doesn't bother me as Nintendo has done zilch with it's Virtual Console last I checked.

I could see picking one up for collector value. Plus-home brew. And it looks great. A remote and nunchuk is like $60 retail, so this is still cheap. Comparing it to pawn shop prices is stupid.

What is your sig from?

The Super Mario Galaxy games were amazing, waggle or no waggle. This product just seems pointless, though, why take the internet access out. How much can a wireless card cost to include? I'd think they'd more than make up for it by including it, between a slight increase in sales and being able to sell Wiiware/Virtual Console games. Even casual fans would download the old Mario games. Maybe it'll sell but it seems like a failure waiting to happen that'll be on clearance in no time. And confusing casual fans by having a Wii, a Wii Mini, and a Wii U seems like it could cause issues.

Also - if you are playing GameCube on wii you are doing it wrong anyway. The wii's video out looks like ass for GameCube games. Keep those on the system it came out on. In general the wii's video output was pretty terrible even for 480p. Really blurry and crappy. The GameCube had much nicer color and clarity at sdtv resolutions.

Wow. You should try to like things once in a while, it sounds like.

But why would anyone buy VC games (or any Nintendo downloadable game), when you lose them all if your console dies? That is beyond backward and weak. Can't believe anyone would buy any digital games from Nintendo with that philosophy.

I have plenty of 360 and PS3 digital content, and its nice to know I can transfer that to another console, if necessary.
So it's basically another one of these.

i instantly thought of this as well

I never did understand why Nintendo didn't give everyone a free download of SMB 1 with every console... market it to give people nostalgia for the old system, and wake people up to the whole Virtual Console concept and they would probably download more.

P.S. I'm glad I didn't overpay for my original red Wii remote and nunchuck set. This should make more of them available... but I'm very happy with my set of 4 for Wii U: black, white, gold, red, each with original remote, nunchuck, classic controller pro, and steering wheel ! ( The only knock off is red steering wheel... I even have the gold wheel from Japan.)

The wireless on the Wii And Wii U was a total fail anyway for me. I could never get it to work reliably (whereas every other device works fine with my router). I just bought a USB network adapter for $16 and used it on the Wii (to transfer my stuff to the Wii U) and now on the Wii U and it is amazing how well that works in comparison. So if you can use one of those on the Mini, then the loss of wireless is not such a big deal. But we don't know if that will be the case.

I'd consider getting one of these for my little ones if they ever come here and I can get one even cheaper ($60-$70 range).

And yeah, those red Wii remotes and nunchuks were worth quite a bit when that red NSMB system came out. Even though I already had a Wii I bought one of those from Kmart because they were giving $50 gift cards with them and I think they were $150 (or was it $200)? But then I was able to sell the red Wii remote + nunchuk for $85 or so. Oh yeah, and I already had NSMB so I sold that as well for $40. I ended up being able to keep the Red wii system (and this one was still GC-compatible) for dirt cheap. Yeah, my remote doesn't match it but who cares ;).

Hardware that wasn't made with me me in mind?

RABBLE, RABBLE RABBLE!

Seriously though, this isn't for you. Stop trying so hard to be offended by this. Its for kids and people who don't care about the missing features.

Nice. I made my own wooden Wii wheel a while back; a lot of people thought it was cool. It was made for older people/bigger-handed people in mind (like myself), so it's bigger than the normal one. Feels great; you should try making one yourself! Maybe a motorcycle-handle version?

Gotta say I agree 100%.

Needs more cowbell, though.

It was $199 and then you got $50 bucks instantly into your Kmart Rewards account. =D I bought 2 of them so I could have a pair of Red Wiimotes and nunchucks, no way in hell was I paying the going rate just for the wiimotes & nunchucks. I ended up selling everything else in the second set seperately and then the other NSMB in the first set since I already had it.
Ended up getting the second set of wiimote & nunchuck for free plus made a little extra after all was said and done.

Oh Kmart those were the Days :D

its also for people that cant see a normal sized wii sitting on the shelf that is the superior product. you know idiots that dont research 100 dollar purchases before hand

Perfect system for parents to put in a young child's room. No worrying about unsupervised internet browsing or Netflix.

The Original Wii was supposed to be this size, which is what I was hoping for. Maybe they'll finally have the 7+ colors they were also supposed to have 6 years ago.
It looks like the Canadians are getting coal in their stockings this year.
No kidding.

I'd probably buy one of these for $50 if
1 - It had memory card slots
2 - Could connect to the internet
3 - Play gamecube games

But I guess that's too much to ask.

Anyone know of a Canadian store that sells this that ships to the US? Amazon.ca and Futureshop seem to be Canada only. My 2006 launch Wii Unit died in January and I sold it for parts, been looking for a replacement and this is an exciting design for me (you can insert and remove the disc manually, it won't have the noise problem my system had (disc hitting metal parts). However, this is coming from someone who owns a Gamecube already and would not need the Wii for a GC system. I found all the online on the Wii to be lacking anyways, only redeeming thing was the import Virtual Console games.

After seeing a picture of this thing on top of a variety of consoles including the Wii, I fail to see what is "Mini" about this system at all. In fact it looks slightly larger than a Wii.

I've also just read on Nintendo Life that the Wii mini only puts out 480i with the standard composite cables, and will not work with the component type. Just one more thing to be disappointed with.
WTF! 480i? What a ridiculous product and it's not really that much cheaper than a regular Wii.
I still don't know why this exists. Even in the article about NOC explaining why they're making it, they just say "it's a great way to play wii games" or something like that.

This thing is like re-releasing the Wii U with no Wii compatibility, Internet, or USB ports.

yea i really dont understand the point of this thing. if it was 40 dollars sure. but 100? the hell is that.

Guys, this Wii isn't for us.

But it's perfect for the type of family that didn't know the Gamecube existed and doesn't realize that the existing Wii can even go online.

Here a tear down of the Wii Mini. It's like electronic porn for game geeks ;).

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-hardware-nintendo-wii-mini-review

I think the crazy part is that it could have been that expensive of a part to add component support. I also read recently about the NES top loader nintendo and even people added composite cable in some of the models. I bet there will be some hardcore modder who will do it to the wii mini.

I also bet the wii brew folks will add other channels since it does have the OS with gutted channels.
