They plan on keeping stores open for now if I recall.I wonder what this will mean for Rosalina & Luma amiibo in Canada. As if I wasn't already terrified enough.
@arnoldrimmer You could always give the info to me, I'm not approving of slidecage's comments in any way. I'm actually sad for Target employees who are losing their jobs.As a Target employee from day one I was going to give some info but I guess I should run away and live in the woods instead.
Unemployment is always hilarious. :/let all the workers go in the woods and see how long they last in their little target bullseye shirts
mostly they will sell their stock to another company before losing major cash on games
That's just the first part of these kinds of retail clearances. It usually goes like this:I find retail liquidations to be the worst
$4 for a box of cereal? Wait, AFTER the 40% discount?!!??
I'm sure Nintendo of Canada will change which retailer carries her; they'll have stock, but they're no longer selling it to Target, so they need to sell it to someone, and they're not going to shaft a whole country out of a SKU like that. Walmart is the most similar retailer to Target, and they don't have an exclusive amiibo, so that might make sense, but I hope it's EB Games, as they'd be the most competent at turning around the situation and rushing the product to stores (plus they'd do pre-orders, even if just for one day, which Target and even Toys 'R' Us aren't doing).Oi, does that mean they won't have the Rosalina and Luma Amiibo next month? Meaning, Canada won't be getting her, unless Nintendo makes it exclusive to a new store.
EB already has Shulk though. Would be unfair for a retailer to have two exclusives. I'm going to dread the day Lucario releases.I'm sure Nintendo of Canada will change which retailer carries her; they'll have stock, but they're no longer selling it to Target, so they need to sell it to someone, and they're not going to shaft a whole country out of a SKU like that. Yet another reason why you should never ever ever buy gift cards. The only acceptable reason is if they do a promotion where for some reason they give you free stuff with the gift card allowing you to come out ahead over using cash but that is rare.Over at RFD some posters are saying that staff at their stores are advising people to use their gift cards within the next few days. It's pretty standard for court sanctioned liquidation that gift cards become worthless (unless you want to get in line behind the other creditors).
Good to know and a plesant change from the normal liquidation proceedings.http://pressroom.target.ca/news/questions-answers
Will you honor gift cards?
Target Canada will continue to accept gift cards through the liquidation period.
10%-15% most likely for the first day. If you don't go tomorrow though, you might miss out on all the good stuff when the sale gets better.Target is starting to liquidate tomorrow!
we should picket around the store then; don't let people through to buy the games yet! We must HOLD until the prices drop 75%!10%-15% most likely for the first day. If you don't go tomorrow though, you might miss out on all the good stuff when the sale gets better.
While you're absolutely right about gradual discounts, it's frustrating to find stuff discounted for liquidation at a higher price than the general Canadian MSRP or previous offers at the very same chain. I remember seeing their bungee chairs at $25 this summer, why would I consider $40 minus 10% a good deal ?Most people over on RFD are complaining at the discounts. I dont know what people were expecting, this is always the way liquidation sales happen. The discount starts off low to clear out some stuff then increases to get rid of whatever is left. They aren't juat going to reduce everything by 80% on the first day!
I've tried clothes on at Target before, so I'm not sure what store you went to, but every one I've been in has had change rooms.I wandered in just to look around, because why not. I was somewhat pleased to find the usual kind jeans I buy @ $20, on sale for for $19 (after 20% off). There's no way they'll still have normal human sizes in a week, so I picked up a pair in my size (the very last one they had) and walked around the store looking for a change room. I looped around everywhere and checked all the walls. Apparently Target stores DO NOT HAVE change rooms. What the hell, there's no way I'll every buy pants without trying them on. Target deserves to go out of business.
I'm not thinking the store owes me anything, but how poorly laid out is a store when I can walk around for 15 minutes and not find change rooms? I liked Target for video games, and found plenty of *great* deals there. Why do people feel that a store that is going out of business owes them something?
I've always had great service at Target and I've found some killer deals there. I personally will miss the place.
Overpriced merchandise with virtually no discounts, and a bunch of rubes lining up because they've never heard of Amazon?People are complaining about the discounts because I read an article that said this liquidation will be 'Black Friday-esque'
Yet I go into the store and see people in a 30-40 person lineup to cash out like they've never seen a 10% discount before.
I stopped by on Thursday (first official day they started the liquidating). It was sad. Clothes and the likes had 20%, but all electronics only had 10%. There was like 30ish ppl lining up to checkout. Some even had a full cart worth of stuff. It's crazy. I mean, 10% for us in QC doesn't even cover the tax. When they put the electronics at 30%, then it might be worth for a few items.Overpriced merchandise with virtually no discounts, and a bunch of rubes lining up because they've never heard of Amazon?
Actually, that's exactly what Black Friday is.
Don't worry, it will eventually reach higher %. However, I'm not sure what will be left by that time.I stopped by on Thursday (first official day they started the liquidating). It was sad. Usually with these things, once it reaches a decent discount percentage not much is left.Don't worry, it will eventually reach higher %. However, I'm not sure what will be left by that time.
It was a decision, like most decisions at Target, that was largely guided by hubris....and so it ends. Today was their last day in business.
I will miss this store, though I'm sure business students will read about it for years as a lesson on how not to expand your stores into Canada.
To think the people who set this up received big salaries and maybe bonuses, when anyone off the street would have told them how stupid it was to open over a hundred stores at once with no on-line presence. Oh well...
