Woman threatens me at auction!

Here’s a real horror story about the dangers of video game collecting…

I went to my first and last public auction yesterday. A pawn closed down near my job and went out of business, and the owner was selling off all of its assets. The pawn happened to be across the street from my office, and there were a lot of games that I had been interested in buying there, but the prices were always too high. Everything was split up into lots for the auction, so you had a chance to look at every lot before the auction to make sure that you were interested in its contents.

I should also state, for the purposes of this story, that this is a small country town. Not all of Virginia is rural, but there are farms nearby in this particular local area.

I waited for almost 5 hours for them to call up the game items (they were all listed in the 300’s, and the total number of lots went into the 400’s). I had only written down 5 lots that I was interested in, and I won 2 of those, but I’m not even sure it was worth it.

I should also add that the woman in question had also purchased a 20 gauge shotgun at this same auction...

After I won my second lot, the lady who was sitting with her husband and son realized that she had missed the bidding for it. She must not have looked at the picture projected on the screen because she didn’t even bid against me. No one else did, either. I must also add here that she had bid against me on other lots of game stuff that I considered to be unimportant (3 yellowed SNES consoles with no cords, a lot full of loose Genesis consoles, and a box full of cords).

When she found out that she had forgotten to bid against me on the second lot I won, she became enraged. She yelled, “If I’m not getting them damn PlayStation 2 games, I’m not paying for any of this s***!” Then, she batted a few of the folding chairs around, knocking them over. The auctioneer stopped calling for a moment, and he yells, “Lady, calm down, everybody out here is trying to get good deals!” She told him to shut up and she started shrieking at the top of her lungs. Then, she walked over to her son and said, “You little s***! I’ve been out here for 4 hours because of you and them damn games!” (Maybe I should also mention that this woman and her husband were rednecks, probably the gun-rack owning, Confederate-flag loving types. It’s weird because the husband had a glazed look in his eyes, like he had just finished a Mason jar full of moonshine.) She shrieked and knocked over more chairs and then ran off.

A few minutes later, she returns and runs over to me while the bidding is still happening. She tells me that I am going to give her those PS2 games. I told her that she needed to back off or I was going to pull out my cellphone and dial 911. I reminded her about her previous behavior and all the witnesses that were standing out there who saw her lose it. She told me that she and her husband would be waiting for me after I paid for my lots.

When I went inside through the back door to pay, I told the people inside that she had threatened me and that everybody saw her go nuts after she missed her opportunity to bid. Then, I told them that they were either going to let me out the front door or I would call the police to have them escort me out safely. I told them that I hadn’t come to their auction to deal with this kind of crap and that they should have had adequate security. When I turned around, the crazy woman was coming through the back door. The pawn owner’s wife let me pay and take my boxes out the front door. The crazed redneck woman was shouting something as I ran out the door.

I quickly ran across the street with two full boxes of videogames. My car was parked in my company’s parking lot, so I dashed around the corner. I threw the boxes into the passenger seat, got in on the driver’s side and sped the hell off. I must have done 40 mph on a residential street to get out of there. I swear I heard the fast part of “Dueling Banjos” playing in the back of my head all the way down the highway…

Anyway, here are the contents of the 2 lots I risked my life for:

Did I get a good deal? I’m still alive…for the moment.

I’m more pissed that I missed my chance to bid on a Turbo-Grafx 16 system…

Arent you in the state where there was a stampede over cheap/used Apple laptops?

I cant imagine you not getting a good deal on all that stuff for $20, whether its useful to you, thats another story.

I'd say you did, cause Einhander goes for $30+ on ebay and you got all that stuff for $20.

If you'd let any of it go I'd be interested in the Virtual Boy games and Orphen.

You should've just given her one of those unidentifiable carts.

...Told her it was a PS3 game and that her son would be granted three wishes.

"Totally Rosie: The Comedy of Rosie O’Donnell DVD (sealed)"

dear....sweet....lord

you should have thrown that at the crazy lady

That's the best story I've read this week. It's sad what meth does to the country folk. It's because of her I can't buy Sudafed to clear my sinuses.

That's why I never goto that type of stuff alone, and secondly nobody screws with me anyways because if they start getting loud I get even more loud or obnoxious. 99% of the time people will shut the fuck up and back down. Also a telescoping baton from ASP would have put that bitch in her place :p

That's crazy.

Leave it to women like that to flip out over little shit. (no offense meant to any females on this board)

Good pickup, though.

How old are you bro? First off no one would get away threatening me. I would have let her hit me then I would have fucked her up and her red neck husband. Then after the ass whooping I would go up to their kid and say " This be a lesson to you, don't be a dick when you grow up. :)

Females on this board? Non-sense CAG doesn't have any of those in here. Well the one who said she was a porn star but turned out to be a ugly chick, but ossibly a dude.

Man, that's messed up to do at a public auction, though. Don't forget that they COULD get his information from the auctioneer possibly. (Which would be fucked up, but still.) There's some disclosure law.

How would that be messed up? It would be in self defense and everyone there would be cheering you on.
I'm 26, and I'm not a punk, if that's what you're trying to get at, pimpin. I am afraid of getting shot, though...
No no.....Myself personally wouldn't of let someone talk shit to me. Everyone is different though.

Should have asked what she intended to do to you had you not given her the stuff. Make sure it was in front of other witnesses and then called the cops. 10 bucks says she had a warrant on her and would have been taken into custody lol. People like her type always do.

Let them shoot you ... if you die their lives are ruined in prison anyways.

Plus, if you are religious it's a free ride into heaven :)

Man, that's an insane story. Glad you got out of there ok and no bullet holes in your car. :)

As for the deal, great find on Einhander . But the fact that you had to wait 5 hours for that and alot of games that arn't quite valuable would kill the deal in my opinion. I would have paid the extra $20 @ GS or EB and saved 5 hours to play the game, myself. :)
Should have just punch her in the neck.
Or as Tycho from Penny-Arcade would suggest - stab her in the mouth.
No, this was Suffolk (Western Tidewater, on the outskirts of Hampton Roads).
Ok. I think you did the right thing. No sense in fighting over that.

That threat is a lot more effective if you replace your cellphone with a gun. (pulls out concealed pistol)

Lmao, funny story. Funniest part, I could imagine my neighbor as the crackheaded lady thats screaming. Even funnier, she was probably going to chase you down and actually beat you for a few shitty ps2 games.

Hopefully, tommorow, she wont be camping out at your work.

Wow, what a bitch. Obviously not your fault or the auctioneers fault that she was too lazy/dumb/sleepy/bored to remember to bid. She needed to just kick herself in the ass and move on.

"She told me that she and her husband would be waiting for me after I paid for my lots."

I maybe would have called the cops right after she said that. Glad you got out of there without having to throw down over a $10 box of video games. What the fuck is wrong with this lady.

Now she can't trade the games in to buy her crock pot and cold medicine for her home-made meth lab. Was anything mentioned to her about the "you snooze, you lose" principle? I would assume people who go to an auction would actually understand the rules, but then again.....

lmfao, Suffolk, that makes this even more funny since i'm from Virginia Beach.

You can't dial 911 with a gun.

I would have pulled out the Einhander and beat her over the head with the rest, then it truly would have been a good deal :)

Very good story. I can't believe that nobody would've went higher than $10 on either lot. I should really look into going to a public auction like this, do they have videogame lots often?

Not too bad- Einhander was very much worth it.

Considering how crappy some of those PS2 games were, I would've said "oh, sure, I only want the Sega CD games." Then hide the PS2 games you want, sell her the other for $10 (or more, if you thought you'd live to bargain.) Then one box would be free! :bouncy:

At least the re-sale value will get you a nice profit.

You, my friend, don't pay much attention. :D
