Worst B&M Game Retailer 2008

Best Buy - my store never has anything worthwhile in clearance. If a thread about Best Buy is YMMW I dont even bother. It's also a sea of humanity in there, you know, like you'd expect at Wal-Mart but for some reason dont at Best Buy... then you're more upset when it is. The only thing they have going for them is that they price match.

Wal-Mart - runner up, also auto YMMV thread avoidance.

Circuit City. There were never any employees around when you needed help. Games weren't stocked and if you had to go to customer service, add another half hour until you leave.

GameStop for weak sales, high initial cost Edge cards wiping out eventual savings, and for being low ballers for trade-ins.

FYE.

This year I was going to buy Resistance:FoM and I had a giftcard to FYE (otherwise I'd never go there since their prices usually suck).

I called ahead and asked if they do pricematching - I was told yes, but only with an in-store ad from the other store. I went to best buy and picked up their weekly ad, since Resistance:FoM had JUST gone gold and was in that week's ad for $30.

Got to FYE (where they were still charging $60 for it) and was told that "there's no way I can price match that low." I was like, "uhhh, you do realize this is the standard price for it now, right?"

Dude was a MANAGER and didn't even know FoM had gone gold. The PS3 gold list was pretty common knowledge pretty fast, but this guy didn't have a clue. I told him to try not lying to his customers, since he had already said they would price match with an ad (there was NO mention of not matching if it was "too low"), and since I had made a special trip just to pick up the aforementioned ad.

It's cool though, I bought something from a different FYE location with my $20 giftcard, then returned it to his store and got an equivalent giftcard from them.

I then spent that giftcard at the FYE online store when there was deal going where I got all 6 star wars movies for 35 bucks (cost to me: $15).

So basically I made the lame manager's store eat the $20 they WOULD have "lost" matching the gold price.
(I say the 20 because they'd likely have price matched it if it was only 10 bucks less. Either way, I felt justice was served.)

Lol.

Toys R Us. Talk about never having anything. Sure they have Buy 2 Get 1 Free, but they don't put out the newer releases, so you end up getting 3 games you really didn't go there for.

Circuit City since they are so disorganized and even when closing the local store had a max discount of 15% on games!!!!

As much as I dislike Wal-Mart, I will say Circuit City. They are never organized, employees aren't helpful, and their selection has gone way downhill. I no longer care about going there.

I'm going with Circuit City because of my experience with getting my 1600 points card with Gears 2

Toys R Us. My Toys R Us, at least. I don't know if it's like this at other TRUs, but my TRU doesn't like to stock M rated games. They'll stock the ones they know will sell, like Halo 3 and Gears of War, but they often won't bother with much else. I think it's just the manager there, but I really don't want my retailers censoring my products. On top of that, the cashiers there look at me like I'm asking where the kiddie porn is whenever I ask if they have an M rated game in stock.
