Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Thanks for providing such a well thought out and insightful comment. I haven't played the game (although my son enjoyed it) so I can't comment on your opinion, but I appreciate when people take the time to articulate points and provide well reasoned information and viewpoints.
I would say try the demo to see if you enjoy the combat (I did as this is one of my 20 best games of the generation) but beware the demo doesn't save your progress and it's literally just the tutorial hour beginning of the full game.

Personally I really enjoyed Reckoning. Well worth checking out for $6 if you enjoy stuff like Elder Scrolls. I'm sad that Big Huge Games didn't get the chance to create a sequel, especially since the DLCs showed that they understood what improvements were needed from the base game-- more colorful and character-centric storytelling, and quality over quantity of sidequests.

Awesome. Is the only way to avoid the MotA corruption bug is to not play both this and the Legacy dlc in the same file before the endgame? There was some other bizarre stuff about deleting all items from dlc but are these meant to be played before the endgame or after, as I'm assuming there is a postgame to finish up quests or just muck around?
Link to bug? I beat both after the main game since they came out so much later I don't know. They are meant to be played anytime after the start of Act 2. Don't know if they can even be triggered before then.

They can be played post-game as you get the option to load your character when you start either one.

This is sarcasm right? If so, well done. I was going to refute the original post but I enjoyed this so much I quoted it instead.

Fable Anniversary ($20) and Oblivion both show up as on sale on the console, but try to charge full price when attempting to buy it.

EDIT: The site shows the games/DLC on sale but from the looks of it, a majority of the deals haven't gone live yet. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-CA/Promotion/deals-with-Gold
yeah it's taking forever to update. I didn't see the oblivion sale but I did see other Dragon age dlc on sale. wish it would update quicker.

No, it's not sarcasm. There's too many people who just spew out their opinion with little to no detail to back it up. I just appreciate when someone takes the time to detail their thoughts rather than just say, "that game's stupid." I also appreciated how well written it was (referring to grammar and flow).

Really? The artwork seems directly imported from WoW, the "lovely" combat system is rather dry and unsatisfying, the pacing is that of an MMO so it takes five times as long to do anything as it should - yes, you're right, it easily takes 100 hours to complete everything, but it could have been more satisfying if it had taken 20. Not to mention how easy it is on the most difficult setting. I've literally never died in the game, and only stumbled across the fact that it was possible to die from an online discussion. I honestly thought that it was a plot/gameplay point that it was impossible to die. Apparently a new difficulty setting was coming in a patch before the developers died of shame. How was it missing from the initial release?!

At least on PC you can throw on a difficulty mod and enjoy some challenge.

A 5-6/10 game. By no means horrible, ticking just enough boxes to get by. But up against last week's Dark Souls / The Witcher 2 RPGathon (or even Lego Batman 2), it simply doesn't compare. 100 hours here is a cost, not a benefit.

Just playing Devil's Advocate, of course. ;)
Well, to each their own. RPGs are obviously not as frantic as FPS games and require you to visit the same places multiple times, with long dialogues, looting and stuff. Yes, it could have been drastically shorter if it was only action with no "bullshit" like story, dialogues, side-missions and such, but then it wouldn't have been an RPG. Yes, the game is too easy, that is one of my only complains with it and I did mention this many times on this forum. I'm a fan of insanely difficult games (bullet hell shooters are some of favourite games), but sometimes I just want to sit back and not risk breaking my controller at every turn. It's a fun gameplay and it is so no matter how much I die. The developers did not "die of shame" but died in result of a really unfortunate situation, which was not helped by the fact that EA didn't really advertise the game at all: I literally first heard about the game around 1-2 months before it came out and I was working for a gaming website back then, having gotten a press release about it that made me curious about the game. Dark Souls and The Witcher 2 are 2 completely different games: the first is barely even an RPG in its common way, while the second is a more hardcore classical experience (I have all of these games so I'm not reading this on the Internet or something). Amalur is a more casual RPG, a mini-MMO if you like, easy but lenghty, with a detailed storyline, a God Of War-reminding combat system and tons of stuff to do. It's obviously not everyone's taste, which is why I suggested people to try out the demo: if they end up liking the combat system, chances are they'll want to play it for a while. It's no Skyrim, but then again it did not have the same budget or development team.

Count me as a fan of Kingdoms of Amalur.  It's definitely not difficult so if your idea of a good game is one that you die in on a regular basis, then it's not the game for you.  It's got a ton of content, an interesting storyline, very good action based combat, and a unique aesthetic.  If you're looking for hardcore dungeon crawling it's not that.  It bears some similarities to the Fable series, but without the farting and with deeper combat and more RPG qualities.

Just playing Devil's Advocate, of course. ;)
I have it. I don't like it.

It is a lot of grinding, and nothing feels fleshed out. I think it would have been amazing on PS2 or GameCube, but it really wasn't up to par.

I disliked Kingdoms of Amalur, mostly for the reasons PenguinJim listed.

Fun fact: KoA's Developer, 38 Studios, was founded by Curt Schilling (yes, the baseball player) in an attempt to replicate WoW's success. So how did they end up churning out KoA? Well, despite the fact that Mr. Schilling managed to hire some decent developers and get a 75 million dollar loan from Massachusetts (you can't make this stuff up!), 38 Studios routinely failed to meet development goals/deadlines, most likely due to the fact that Curt also hired a bunch of family members and friends to run the company. As a result of this mismanagement, 38 Studios started to run out of money well before they could realize their dream of creating a cash cow for Mr. Schilling to milk, and so to keep themselves afloat they decided to make an action-RPG using the assets from their unreleased MMO.

So what does it all mean? It means that KoA is a spinoff of a crappy WoW clone that never came out, and it really shows.

Where's that dude who would throw a fit whenever someone would refer to it as Kingdoms of Amalur or KoA instead of "Reckoning"? This is his week to shine.

LOL.

Yes and no. Because the MMO was taking so long to make, Schilling bought a different studio (Big Huge Games) that was already working on a single-player RPG, and had them rewrite the story to fit into the Amalur universe. The point was to get the Amalur name and mythology out there. But the development of the two games really had nothing to do with each other.

So is that really all the deals for today?! I am very shocked.

The only thing I have gotten is "The evil within" and that's still downloading :p

Also how can I put links and pictures in my signature? I  have no idea how to gain reputation or anything on here. I assume it is a ball ache..

Figured I'd jump in on the KoA discussion. I thought it was a lot of fun in the initial section where you're in a forested area. It felt like the game might be building towards something, and the combat was fun enough. But the rest of the game was basically a lesson in rinse-and-repeat game design in terms of everything from environments and side quests to enemies and gameplay variety. And the story and world-building fell completely flat. Definitely worth playing a few hours if you can play it for free, but not worth spending money on.

You did because it was Rhode Island that gave them the loan. ;) it was part of some deal to move the company there through their Economic Development Corporation. It left taxpayers on the hook for as much as $100 million. The government settled for 4.4 million in June 2014. Boy, did that work out well.

So CoD:AW has that upgrade deal going on so I want to get CoD:AW on my nephew's 360 using my profile and then I could upgrade it on my Xbox One.  Can he access the game on his 360 even if I'm not signed on his 360?  He uses a USB flash drive so I'm not sure if it'll works.  Anyone know?

No, it's not sarcasm. There's too many people who just spew out their opinion with little to no detail to back it up. I just appreciate when someone takes the time to detail their thoughts rather than just say, "that game's stupid." I also appreciated how well written it was (referring to grammar and flow).
It was all opinion with little fact. He called the combat dry and unsatisfying. Since those are adjectives also used to describe a bad steak, I have no idea what he means. Then he complained about pacing and not dying. Single worst anti-game rant I've seen and you think its a fact based review? Blows my mind.

So long as you purchase the game on his Xbox 360 with your profile it'll work fine.

The content you purchase is licensed for a single account or a single console. If you purchase and then download a game from Xbox Live, anyone in your household may use it. You may also install and play the game on as many other consoles as you like, but only the original account that purchased the game will be able to play it. If your friend tries to play the game using his or her own account, it will not play. Your friend should purchase the game using his or her own Xbox Live account to play the game.

I never said it was a fact based review. I just appreciated how he presented his point of view. Also, the tone of his writing was pretty mellow and thought out to call it a "rant."

It was actually Rhode Island that gave the loan to lure the company away from its Boston home.

As I said until the Rhode Island governor turned the loan into a campaign issue, Reckoning 2 was on track to be funded by either EA or 2K.

Time to pick up the amalur dlc. Picked the game up during the last ultimate games sale, so I've been waiting for the dlc to go on sale.

Dragon Age II Mark of the Assassin DLC is half off now. I Guess I should finally start Dragon Age Ultimate Edition now.
Holy moly it's happening! Almost bought the others full price out of frustration. Date night should be moved to Tuesday night I guess to be safe.

Still not seeing the other DA:O dlc's go on sale yet...Decided to bite again on DA:O, even though I've played it to death I can't pass it over for $3.74. Plus it seems I had already purchased Return to Ostegar/Wardens Keep/Stone Prisoner when they came out originally, so buying the main game just seemed logical. Now if Awakenings goes on sale for $5 totally bought!

And now, tonight, all my games are working. Installed Project Spark and Max and both started right up and let me play. I have no idea. I think the One just still has a lot of issues that MS is not admitting to or fixing. I am still not buying any digital games until I am sure they have fixed this shit.

Speaking of One changes... I really wish they would add a "trophy case" app for all games you've 100%'d. The 360 has that small section where you can view all of them. I need to suggest that to Major or Phil.

Looks like there's some weird small sale on Darksiders II DLC that is going to happen as well as the main game becomes a free GwG today - Season Pass just showed up for 15% off  . . . great idea to time a DLC sale with the game going free and I'm glad to see that it's not just for Gold members only but serious a 15% discount is ludicrously small - what gives?

Yeah wasn't it 50% off at one point?

Oh snaps, Darksiders 2 goes free tonight? I thought it was the 16th? (which really usually means the night before?)

skonson is drunk, or in Australia... either way, for those of us in the normal world it goes free tomorrow evening. (the 15th)
Appreciate the heads up! I forgot what time of the day it was for me and how in many other places it's already Wednesday!

Where are you seeing that this other stuff is supposed to go on sale? I hope its not like last week where Braid was supposed to go on sale but never did.

For anyone else who got a retail copy of Lego Movie Game for XBO: did it come shrink wrapped or with the Y-folds?

My copy from Amazon came in today, and has y-folds.  But the copies I got at Target last week to flip to Walmart were all shrink wrapped.  All of them have had the Xbox seal, I just found it weird they'd have two different wrapping styles.

On the 360 dashboard in sales or whatever in the shop for games area there's a link to all the things that "should" be on sale.
