Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Psn and xbl are apparently down I attribute that to the influx of new users not hackers though
It would be hard to know for certain since Microsoft never actually lets people know what the issue is. And these are not hackers, they're DDOSers. Hackers would be a much more significant issue as our personal information would be at risk. These are children with too much time on their hands that are simply sending packets at servers in order to make it so no one can use them.

We have big bananas in Florida. Throws off calculations.
:pours glass of orange juice:

Tons of people can't connect to LIVE, including me...some say they still can. Guess we're both outta luck.
I had the Cartoon Network game downloading (3.5 GB) while I was asleep and had no problems. Checked the 360 earlier and Live was still working for me.

Well now I know why we can't have sales on nice things. No Duck Dynasty sale because they spent all their money sponsoring a bowl game!
I seem to recall Out of the Shadows being on sale last year too. I'm disappointed in that, but I'll never be mad when a good game goes on sale - even if I already own it.

I like the idea of a Kinect game going on sale after Christmas. It's an excuse to get people moving and [try to] work off those holiday meals.

I love Rock Band and all, but at this point in the 360's life cycle I'd like to see some Dance Central DLC go on sale instead.

That will work just fine.

Looks like a good one! Main thing is it must be 3.0.
Yep, USB 3.0 will actually be slightly faster than the internal drive but 2.0 will be a disaster (not that you can find many of those drives these days) because it's so much slower.

This doesn't have to be powered by an outlet, does it?

It says just plug and go or whatever but I think it says it includes an AC adapter?
That one does have to be AC powered. This is the USB powered alternative: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HXAV0X6/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=

Problem is if you want over 2TB in a USB powered drive you're going to pay out the nose for it. The 2.5" drives used in the portable USB powered externals don't really come over 2TB at a commercial price point right now so drives like the one I linked have to use two drives in one enclosure.

and plus ac powered ones are always better for systems in my opinion cause and you Cause your system to have to work harder when it doesn't need to

The enclosures are usually better as well. Those portable ones are literally a thin plastic shell that might have an aluminum coating on part of it if you're lucky.

So do I want an ac powered external drive or does it not matter?

I would much rather have a USB powered one but is it going to cause that much difference?

Edit: Basically, I'm not that great at stuff like this so could someone just link me to the best External Hard Drive I could get for the One off of Amazon for around $100 lol

Both will work and both have their pros and cons. For about $100 though I would say these are your main choices.

AC powered:

Edit- I forgot about this Transcend drive that's very well regarded and also sports an enclosure that claims military grade drop protection and is $107 for 2 TB. http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-USB-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B005MNGQ6C

The market has become so condensed there aren't a lot of options these days, especially in bigger sizes. If you prefer more speed at the cost of storage capacity you can also get something like the HGST Touro 1TB for $69. The trade off for capping at 1TB is that it's one of the few 7200 RPM drives available at a reasonable price in an external (most are 5400 RPM max). Basically that means the drive spins faster which allows it to read faster. This is roughly 15% give or take improvement loading times on the consoles but you're giving up a lot of storage and it's not guaranteed to be noticeably improved depending on the game.

Thank you! I think I'm just gonna go with the Seagate USB powered.

I'll basically be getting it free with credit so if it doesn't work out down the road I'll just try again

And it works just fine, that's what I was using for a while until I ripped the drive out to put in the PS4. Now I'm stuck trying to decide how much storage I want to get for Le 'Bone. One of those things where I don't want to buy another in two or three years but also don't want to over spend.

That will work just fine.

Yep, USB 3.0 will actually be slightly faster than the internal drive but 2.0 will be a disaster (not that you can find many of those drives these days) because it's so much slower.
The Xbox One has no support for USB 2.0 drives. Microsoft is very specific on this issue.

And if you crack open a lot of the USB 3.0 drives, you will find SATA II drives inside. That 5TB drive has a SATA III interface but can't even come close to saturating a SATA II bus. The Xbox One and PS4 both have native SATA II buses internally, which support sustained transfers of up to 300 MB/s. I never can understand why people are convinced that a 5400 RPM, 5900 RPM, or 7200 RPM drive magically gets faster in an external USB 3.0 enclosure. It's still the same SATA II or SATA III drive with a conversion board inside a cheap enclosure. The gains you see with an external drive are due to platter density, not due to USB 3.0.

The factory Xbox One hard drive is an out-of-date dog, and was picked to meet their target price point. You'd have to try really hard to find a current USB 3.0 external drive with poorer specs than the internal drive. That Seagate 5TB is a 5900RPM drive with 1TB platters, so that's why it's snappier than the internal drive. Looking up benchmarks for the two shows sustained transfers in excess of 2x as fast for the Seagate versus the internal.

I wouldnt mind this. Been kinda wanting to play a wwf game for a while.

I don't know if anyone has ever done this, but I think we should all band together for a class action suit against Lizard Squad members once they are caught. If you take the amount of time lost that we paid for and multiplied it by the amount of Live users, it would be a huge sum, and it may deter future jackasses from similar shenanigans....anyone here a lawyer?
You know who should do that? Microsoft corp. I'm paying them, not also gonna clean their arses. And in the meantime, they could explain to the users who pay for a service why the hell such service isn't working. And well, compensate us. Just fair enough: extend our Gold a day for each day isn't working, that at the very least.

I remember when PSN was hacked they compensated with free games unless my memory is not what it is anymore. Come on Microsoft, give us some free games for our subscriptions

Didn't realize 2.0 wasn't supported but makes sense. Wish the WiiU had gone the 3.0 route.

OK, it's the HDD that's the weak point then. It was reported when the specs were coming out that the bus on the One was sub-standard and slower than what was in the PS4. If that was being reported backwards than that's probably where that notion came from (though I also see iFixit sort of debunked that by exposing the actual production parts). Even if that is the case no one was saying a drive magically gets faster in a USB 3.0 enclosure. What was said was that a USB 3.0 drive will be faster than the internal and a 7200 RPM drive on USB 3.0 will be faster still than the internal. Because the internal HDD is not end user replaceable the only way to connect it to the system is through USB 3.0 making the end result faster regardless of saturation. So if you put a 5400 RPM drive and 7200 RPM drive on that same bus which one is going to perform better if nothing's bottle necking them?

The point is still the same (that a USB 3.0 drive on the One is preferable to using the internal) even if the semantics were wrong. Still doesn't really make a 7200 RPM drive worth the extra cost and sacrifice in capacity for minimal gains in loading and texture streaming.

That's no where near the same. When PSN was hacked, the data of users had been compromised and the service was down for weeks compared to today where the service was down four to six hours.

The two ways to make a platter-based drive faster is to either increase the rotational speed or increase the size of the platters, as you well know. If you were to put the Xbone's factory drive into a USB 3.0 enclosure, it wouldn't get any faster because it's not bottlenecked by the bus. You said that USB 3.0 would be quicker which may or may not be the case depending on what drive you go with. And if you buy an external enclosure on your own, you could end up putting an old spare drive in it which could easily be slower than the factory drive.

I put a 1TB 7200RPM drive in my PS3 because the price difference was almost nothing and the heat issue is vastly overplayed. The slight increase in responsiveness was noticeable to me. I have a 2TB bus-powered drive on the One, and the very same drive inside my PS4 because it was the only 9.5mm 2TB drive available at the time. I like the ease of upgradability of the One, and appreciate that Microsoft integrated it into the software so well. I wish Sony would do the same in the future.

In any case, happy holidays!

So theres one more day of sales?

I guess Fantasia for X1?

Edit: I see. One more day? Two?

So do I want an ac powered external drive or does it not matter?

I would much rather have a USB powered one but is it going to cause that much difference?

Edit: Basically, I'm not that great at stuff like this so could someone just link me to the best External Hard Drive I could get for the One off of Amazon for around $100 lol
I own three different portable drives that I specifically purchased for the purpose of storing games.

The first is the Western Digital My Passport Ultra 2 TB
Link: http://www.amazon.com/Passport-Ultra-Portable-External-Backup/dp/B00E055H5O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419543731&sr=8-1&keywords=Western+digital+my+passport
I currently use this device for my Acer S7 notebook. It's pretty quiet and even comes with password protection should you need to keep, uh, you know stuff like work documents protected and confidential. One thing to keep in mind is that the software will only work on computers, consoles will have to reformat the drive. I purchased this portable hard drive a little over a year ago and have taken it on many trips and haven't had any issues with it what so ever. The only downside with this specific model is that it's twice as thick as the second drive I purchased, taking up more space in my computer bag. This device is powered entirely by USB, which makes it convenient for on the go.

I then purchased the Seagate My Backup Plus Slim 2 TB

This is so far my favorite portable hard drive. It's very thin which makes it perfect for hiding behind your console and out of sight. I also like the design a lot better than the WD My Passport Plus I purchased previously. It makes about the same amount of noise as the WD My Passport, but honestly I barely ever hear it because my console washes out any sound the seagate makes as it is a lot more noisey than the drive itself. Much like the WD My Passport, this device is also powered entirely by USB. The reason why I purchased this model was because I was running out of space on my internal hard drive and I was getting tired of having to individually download/install each game on my different consoles. This specific model was the perfect solution, as it offers a good amount of storage without having to switch to an AC powered hard drive. One of my primary Xbox One consoles is in Germany, so I wanted to stick to a USB powered device in order to avoid having to buy converter plugs again. I've probably only had this hard drive for half a year now, but I haven't had any issues with this device. Most of my friends who own a portable hard drive for their console either have the 1TB or 2TB version of this hard drive, so in my experience it is quite a popular choice among portable hard drives. The highest amount of storage you can get is 4 TB for this model, though I personally restricted myself to 2 TB as I was told over 2 TB hard drives are more prone to hard drive failure.

Then the most recent external hard drive purchase I made was for the Seagate Backup Plus 5 TB external desktop hard drive.

I decided to pick up a few of these on Black Friday since the price seemed decent enough and I was running out of space on my 2 TB portable hard drive. This device is AC powered, so my plan is to ultimately get one setup on each of my consoles as the primary hard drive. I could then clear my 2 TB portable hard drive and only install new games which I could then transfer to the 5 TB hard drive. Some of you are probably wondering why I would want multiple hard drives and do all this transferring and what not. The answer is quite simple, it's because my "unlimited" internet at my European residences are in fact limited. Though I have something called an "Unlimited Plan" where I never have to pay more than the monthly set Internet fee, my provider does slow down my connection once exceeding 80 GB worth. The sales representative actually bet me that I wouldn't be able to exceed 80 GB a month, to his surprise I exceeded that limit fairly quickly. I think the guy ended up giving me 3 months free internet for losing the bet, but that still left me with the problem about having an 80 GB limit. Dragon Age Inquisition alone was over 40 GB and Forza Horizon 2 was 38 GB, between the two I already exceeded my limit which would then drastically slow down my connection which would cause issues with multiplayer gameplay and watching Netflix etc. Which is why I am trying to cut down on unnecessary usage wherever possible, and the biggest waste so far has been downloading these games. Anywho, as far as this specific external hard drive is concerned I really can't say much more than it looks nice, as I just got them and haven't really had a chance to try them out at all.

I heard some people mention in this thread that the USB powered portable hard drives dont usually have good casing etc, but what is your opinion on the hard drive failures? Are the larger AC powered portable hard drives in fact more prone to a hard drive failure? I am in no way a tech guy, so when the guy I spoke to told me that anything over 2TB greatly increases the chance of a hard drive failure I made sure to stick below 2 TB for my first few purchases.

My recommendation for you Glass_Ghost_0 would be the Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2 TB portable hard drive, as it is USB powered like you prefer and is usually under $100. I've seen the price regularly drop on Amazon and Best Buy down to $89.99, and as low as $79.99 prior to black Friday. Not sure what they were going for on Black Friday, but I would assume also around $80. Now keep in mind that I am not an expert on hard drives either, I am strictly going by my own experience.

Hard drives are partly luck of the draw. There's been several mergers over the years so now there's far fewer manufacturers than before. As long as you keep them away from unnecessary heat sources and if they have a cooling fan, clean it periodically, you'll likely be fine. I second the vote for the Seagate Backup Plus Slim. It has a Samsung Spinpoint drive in it, as a result of their merger back in 2011. I have two, one in my PS4 and one attached to my One. They've both been solid so far.

Hey, while we're on the subject of accessories, etc... does anyone know where I can get a good pair of wireless headphones? So I can play xbox at night without waking the baby.

Do wireless headphones even exist? Do they make them for xbone?
