  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Unlock the towers in Mordor. It at least lets you quick travel then. Also, get good at taming carragors. They can make it across a map in no time...

Taming carragores is my bread and butter. I like to go into a stronghold, shoot some meat down to lure them, shoot open any cages and hop on one and just go nuts. I can ususlly kill 3 or 4 captains at a time this way. When your carragore gets killed, just climb up somewhere high and hop on another one. and like racer guy said, getting from point A to point B is a breeze on one of those things. And if you start getting attacked by some, just get the high ground and mount that sucker and all the others will leave you alone.

For real. I almost quit the game before I unlocked that skill.

On an unrelated note, funk of Titans or whatever it's called is up for preload. Anybody getting it? It looks like it's one of those games that could either be really great or flat out terrible.

Funk of Titans plays like Rayman Fiesta Run - endless runner, but there's lots of unique levels, equipment to buy, and it's good fun. If you don't like endless runners you might not enjoy it, but the short and mildly challenging levels lend themselves well to quick play sessions. Plus it's relatively easy to get all the Achievements in 6-8 hours.

If I reviewed games on YT, I'd be EMBARASSED to learn a publisher "trusted" me. They should be worried that your review could sink them.
What's your context for saying that?

As far as the Playseat goes, they have a product that they believe in and little reason to think a racing game enthusiast won't enjoy it. With games, the publisher will get a feel for review styles, what you like, etc. but you can tell when they don't have much faith in a game by whether they send out review copies (for instance, Warner Bros didn't do review copies of the Batman XBLA game), and when.

Also, for me, the written review is the main thing, and the YouTube videos are meant to complement it. I'm not specifically a YouTube reviewer.

Your reviews:

Gaming is EXPENSIVE hobby. Critics oughtnt be cheerleaders for "good enough." They should be DEMANDING improvement. Excellence. Superiority.

Video games are a serious and mature art form.
Your criticism of my criticism is too general. I always point out any significant issues I see in a product, but the tone of the review is dictated by how I feel about the product overall.

You're suggesting that we should intentionally create adversarial relationships with publishers, but I strongly disagree. If you can't work them in a friendly manner, you won't be receiving review products from them, and then you don't have anything to write about. Do you think I could afford to drop $400 on a gaming chair? Not on an online journalist's salary. That doesn't mean I pull my punches - see above.

If you feel like I'm too positive in general, perhaps you're taking truly issue with my taste in games. I like most games I play (not sports, some FPS, etc.) and pass that enthusiasm along in my writing. Simply put, I review from a position of love of games. But I don't like everything, and try to avoid things I know I won't enjoy or am not curious about.

My reviewing style is based on the critical analysis I learned in college Literature classes. You wouldn't write a paper on a Shakespearean play and call it bad, but you would pick a position, support it with as much factual evidence as possible, and add your own opinions based on those facts where appropriate.

Agreed that games are art though. ~ ~

I know this probably gets asked a mega fuckton around here, but I'm wondering how much HD space GTA 5 takes up. I did a bit of searching, but nothing seemed like a definitive answer. When you click purchase, it says less than 8gb, but I've seen people say 15+ required. Which is it?

I believe GTA 5 might be one of the very last games I really want at the moment, especially since it dipped within affordable price. So I'm debating whether I wanna save for another hard drive, or buy this game. Problem is, if I have to clear 15+gb I'm not sure I wanna go through with it right now. This is my dilemma.

I only have gtav on the ps3, on there it takes up 18gb of space. I think someone posted here the other day that the Xbox version is 15gb.

Yeah, the developer told us $9 but it launched at $12.49. Not sure why that happened.
I was ready to buy it at $8.99 but at $12.49 I'm holding off. It is just a runner after all. I can pick up my phone and play about 1.2 million of those right now for free if I wanted to.

i remember hearing a while back that any leftover points you had in your wallet were going to disapear or something. Is that still happening or did they change their mind about that? I checked and my old points are a dollar amount now but i dont think any disappeared

Can anyone recommend buying the Far Cry 4 season pass for Xbox One right now?  According to Destructoid, Far Cry 4 DLC called Escape from Durgesh Prison is a standalone DLC that will be available starting on 1/13, but season pass holders will get it for free.  I hardly ever buy season passes with the exception of the Dead Rising 3 DLC and Watchdogs DLC I bought for the Xbox One and 360, respectively, during the holiday sale, so is this a good buy?

I'm waiting on the content for the pass to be released and some general thoughts/reviews prior to spending $30 on the SP.

Sounds like a good idea. I think the incentive is that if you buy the pass before it comes out, it will be included for free. If not, you will have to pay for both. I have only played the game for about 4 hours at this point since I work two jobs, so truthfully, I'm not sure when I would get to the extra missions.

No, if you wait you'll still get it included with the season pass.

I love all the achievements in halo, makes it so you can just play the game and randomly achievements will pop because there is an achievement for everything you do.

MCC matchmaking has worked great for me for a month. It's pretty much been the only thing I've played since then. There really is a crazy amount of content. I hope they add matchmaking for Halo 4 back soon. I was late to the Xbox party in general so that was the only game I really ever played MP on before.

I only have gtav on the ps3, on there it takes up 18gb of space. I think someone posted here the other day that the Xbox version is 15gb.
Can anyone who has the 360 version of GTA V confirm what praxus said?

I'm assuming how immensely popular this game is, that it is well worth the space it takes up, and the < $20 price? I might have to do some space clearing, and then save for a new hard drive. At least I'll have plenty to play while I'm saving.

I have it on 360 and I've downloaded all the free updates like beach bum, etc... and it takes a total of 23 gb.

If you have a PC and are comfortable with a little technical tinkering a 500GB drive can be yours for about $45. You can get a premade one off Amazon or Ebay for a few dollars more, though there's a good chance it won't support compatibility for original Xbox games if you care about that.

Did Microsoft ever elaborate on the missing seasons pass for Borderlands in the Telltale Pack?
That's a very good question. Last I saw they said something about it m they wouldn't be able to make it register right until episode 2 came out but that was back when it was on sale and I haven't looked since.

How many of those free addons/updates are for strictly multiplayer though? I probably won't care much about that. The last GTA game I played was San Andreas on PS2, and even then I didn't get to finish it due to a memory card malfunction.

I appreciate you taking the time to find and link me to those things, but I'd be terrified I'd break something or mess something up. I'm not a very technical tinkering kind of person I guess.

My biggest issue with space is that I think I'm kind of a game hoarder, I guess. I've only had my Xbox for about 2 years now, so being able to grab cheap games I've always wanted to try = backlog. So I have games on my hard drive I bought cheap thinking "I'll get to it" and I just haven't yet. So really all I have to do is delete some unplayed/already beaten games and I'd be golden.

I think all of them. I'm not sure. It said "Free" so I downloaded them, naturally : )

It was on sale for $7.49 a while ago, but Vanquish (at least on casual difficulty) is a fun 5-6 hour ride that is well-paced and not too repetitive or long. There is no story but lots of fun gunplay with the boosting and slo-mo mechanics. Much better than Bayonetta imo. Now to knock Metal Gear Rising off the backlog.

This is very true. It's like a very fast paced gears of war. At least, that's what came to my mind when I played it several years ago.

Here's a question: how does forza horizon 2 compare to the first? I love the first one. But I played the demo for the second and it just didn't click with me. It felt much more sim-y and much less arcadey. What I loved most about FH1 was that perfect balance. Am I right in thinking that? Or is the demo misleading? Was I just having an off day?

I got the first horizon for $30 last year and would grab the second in a heartbeat for that price if not for these reservations I have from the demo.

Thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

General consensus is FH2 on 360 is worse than the first by a good bit. I loved FH1. FH2 on X1 is the best racing game I've ever played

Off topic but I have a couple questions about Murdered: Soul Suspect on the 360:

1) For anyone who's played it, is it possible to go back to the mission areas such as
the police station
after completing that part? I know the game isn't open world in the traditional sense, and the game finishes once I start the last mission, so I just want to know if it is possible to go back and collect some of the things I may have missed in the locations?

2) Has the game chugged for anyone else? I installed it but the game still drops frames quite often, and sometimes just freezes for a few seconds before moving again.

As for deals: FIFA 15 is 50% again on the 360 for $30.

Seagate Expansion USB 3.0 5TB Desktop External Hard Drive (STBV5000100) $135.99

I remember you said you wish you jumped on the Black friday price of this and this is $5 cheaper then the BF Price
Thanks, think this is too big to use on Le 'Bone but will use it on my PC probably.

Still trying to decide between 2/3/4 TB for Le 'Bone (though if I ended up going for 4 TB I would just get that 5 TB).

Thanks! I'm referring to the x1 version. Is it more sim-y than the first one though?
No?

Black Flag is worth that, don't agree with Unity. Also, isn't Unity's free dlc on the 13th?
Does anyone know if the free dlc lasts forever? I have the code from the bundle but haven't downloaded Unity. Do I have to install it and somehow activate the game by playing it before the 13th or something? Or can I just get the dlc when I decide to play the game later?

I think you can go back to every location except the museum and I did have slow downs while playing but only during autosaves.

I would think it's forever free. Especially since you can no longer buy the season pass, until they release the season pass with just the second 2 DLCs.
