Please note:

 • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
 • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
 • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
 • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
 • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
 • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

It is silly but I make no excuses, I just like achievements a lot, and I dont really like trophies at all.
I'm in the same boat.

I like numbers as it makes me think of money, I use my Gamerscore to overcompensate for the low number in my bank account.

Me: "Don't worry, baby. While that number may look low to you, I've got more in another account. About 60,000 saved up in that one. Yeah!"

*shows girl my Gamerscore*

Girl: "That's a decent amount saved up! What bank?"

Me: "Xbox Live, baby."

*girl breaks up with me*

I wonder, does it maybe have something to do with which console you got first? Because I prefer trophies because of the actual platinum but I did get a PS3 before my 360. Curiously, did you get a 360 first?

I did have a 360 before a PS3, so bear that in mind. But to me, trophies just feel like an inferior me-too exercise.

My xbone turns itself on all the time. Usually overnight. I'll turn it off before heading to bed and it'll be on when I wake up. I just assumed it was installing updates or something.

I also noticed people only talk about the platinum trophy.. which takes so long to get on most games, while on Xbox I can get 800+ gamer score and be done, since there isn't much tied to 1000g on a completed game.

Or...... GHOSTS. I wouldn't like to see my electronic devices turn on by themselves -_-

It's the beginning, Skynet is starting to watch over us, in our own houses, while we sleep.

At one time turning on my :xb1: would also turn on my :pc:. I have wake on lan disabled so that remains a mystery. I'm at the mercy of Clippy.

...soo I actually get less % off now after they changed the discount thing...pretty sure with the 75.000+ GS the discount was higher than 2% for gold members...oh well, I buy less and less anyway..still waiting for some dlcs on sale...
Does GS actually have anything to do with what you get back now percent wise? It looks like it's all based on what you've spent now unless I'm missing something.

The kinect end user agreement states that it will periodically turn, check the room for occupants and if determining none, scan your room for marketing opportunities.
If it sees none then it farts and blames you.

Man I am pumped!!! Rock Band is releasing three new tracks for Rock Band 3.

Arctic Monkeys - R U Mine
Avenged Sevenfold - Shepard of Fire
Foo Fighters - Something From Nothing
People still play Rock Band?
Yes. Especially for drums and keyboard. Until they make a Rocksmith- like game for those, Rockband's the best out there.

Still play Rock Band and Guitar Hero to this day. In fact, I was playing Rock Band Blitz last night/this morning.

I don't know those 3 songs, but it's nice to see Harmonix is starting to add songs again.

WTF? Are you serious??? Man, if Harmonix were to introduce a new RB game where you could use your own guitar, I'd be pumped!!!!!

Yup I still play Rockband now especially because I have kids that love playing along with me (too young to really actually play much but they like to try and to sing).

Also I vastly prefer achievements to trophies.  I think a lot of it is that trophies are literally an "oh oh, me too!" thing I mean there's no denying the copied off achievements.  Sure trophies have the platinum but achievements have the cool recognition when you get all achievements for a game so personally I even like that more.  Plus unless they changed it, last I played (which was a long time ago, and no PS4 yet) it was just super unintuitive how it was all listed and organized.

Why do I keep checking this thread several times every Monday?

I already bought more games than I should have during the Countdown Sale, and the prices probably won't be better for the games I didn't....

Its like I'm saying: "Please, Microsoft....please disappoint me (again)."

Our date can smell the desperation on you, time for a cold shower.

Snakey got banned, so who will give the heads up on upcoming games and when a game is available early now?

What the actual fuck? My Xbox Rewards VIP Status dropped to 1 Star? Since when is this even possible? I was on my way to the 3rd star and now I have 0% on my way to the next one?
It dropped you all the way back to 1 star? Since the FAQ says "Members will stay in their tier until he/she reaches the next spending threshold.", I figured it would keep people wherever they were at, and you should be at 2 stars, though with 0% progress toward the 3rd star after the January reset.

I was just 1 star last year, and it kept me there when it reset the 53% progress I had toward the 2nd star (I spent $215.03 on the digital marketplace last year). I bought the Telltale bundle at the end of the countdown sale and am now 13% of the way to the 2nd star ($55 / $400) instead of 36% of the way to the first star ($55 / $150). Though I could never tell if everyone started off at 1 star anyway and that $150 threshold didn't really apply. I got MyVIP credits before I reached $150 spent, though I was close to the threshold. This reply on their forums indicates spending $150 was necessary, but who knows ...

Unfortunately, the prior Rewards forum topic I had linked about season passes was locked with the Rewards person saying the credits are pending. Most other topics about season passes I've come across have been from people that already met the $40 threshold and the topics were locked with an update that their credits are pending. This one was the only one I found where someone was told their progress was updated without having completed it yet.

One bad thing (or maybe you'd say another bad thing) about marketplace pricing and the transition from MS points becomes clear with this pass promotion. I've already spent $9.99 on the AC4 pass. I thought about the Borderlands Pre-Sequel pass for $29.99. The XBL credit was purchased at a discount, so I'm still not paying full price, but that would leave me at $39.98, leaving me 2 cents short. If it had been MS points, the promotion most likely would've been 3,200 points, with the 800 point AC4 pass and 2,400 BL pass completing it. But now I'd need to buy something else. Pretty sneaky, sis.

Plus unless they changed it, last I played (which was a long time ago, and no PS4 yet) it was just super unintuitive how it was all listed and organized.
Elegance in simplicity! Gamerscore is just a total number, it's immediately intuitive how it works. With trophies, it's like, okay, I'm level 7, but what does level 7 mean? How many games do you need to play to go up a level? Are all the levels the same? Bronze, silver, and gold trophies-- a silver trophy is worth more than a bronze, but how much more? twice as much, five times as much...? How come some games have more gold and silver trophies than others, is there a rule for how they're allotted? Platinum trophy means I completed a game, but if DLC adds more trophies, do I still get to keep my Platinum? How come some games don't even have a Platinum?

Not that these questions can't be answered, but the whole thing suggests that Sony's strategy to avoid looking like a carbon copy of gamerscore was to shove in a bunch of unnecessary complexity.

My Gamerscore is a direct reflection on how cool I am IRL.

My 2 year old will come flying from anywhere in the house if he hears the achievement unlocking sound screaming "high 5!!" . He knows what's up.

I agree with your comments, but nothing on the Xbox side compares to a Platinum. It sounds and looks so much better for someone to have a Platinum trophy than to have a 1000/1000 Gamerscore for a game. You can't even say it easily. And some games have higher or lower Gamerscore so you can't even know whether someone got all the achievements unless you know what the total Gamerscore should be. "I got the Platinum" just sounds and looks so much better. The Gold, Silver, and Bronze trophies don't mean nearly as much in relation to Gamerscore, but I also like how those are classified. The whole trophy level system is pretty dumb for the exact reasons you mentioned, but I much prefer how trophies instead of achievements work on a per game basis.

Xbox 360 shows how many completions you have and puts those games in a special group. They need to put the same information into the Bone interface and give it a place of prominence!
Been asking for this for a year now. Wtf. Why haven't they added this one simple thing? I want to feel good about all that previous time wasted by glancing at my completed games list once in a while.

I want a "classic mode" for the Xbox one menu. My biggest problem with it is it doesn't have the menu convenience that the 360 had. I hate looking at my One achievements.

People still play Rock Band?
Absolutely. Plus my daughter and her friends play Rock Band as a pure karaoke game. It helps that I've supplemented my RB3 library with customs, so they also have songs like "Let It Go" (Frozen) and "Everything is Awesome!" (LEGO Movie).

Far Cry 4, GTA5, Watch Dogs and Sherlock Holmes are all games I'd pick up in a second if they went on sale. I'd really like that monopoly plus game too (not all the add-ons) but I'm skeptical. I bought a monopoly game for 360 when it was on sale and thought it sucked pretty bad.

I can't say I care enough about the whole trophies vs. achievements debate since they're the same damn thing. The only thing unique between them is the platinum, but everything else is arbitrary BS.

Except you lose them should they add DLC achievements and they don't add to your point total. Platinums denote that you earned all of the original trophies.

I got the SG backup plus on Black Friday for $70. Excellent investment. Went from 98% full to 30%, and that included installing every game I own (because...why not). It's fast and I have no complaints about it. Highly recommend.
