Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I was at the Texas/USC National Championship game, one of the greatest days of my life, so I understand, all props to OSU.  I actually thought Oregon would run this game, so what the hell do I know.  After the Cowboys call reversal yesterday, and the Longhorns being terrible, I may be done with football.

But I just bought XCOM, so who cares!

Sad, but I was most excited about Puzzle Fighter HD and Super Street Fighter II since my aim this year is to get as many XBLA titles onto my hard drive as possible. That said, I might buy Bioshock and Bioshock 2 along with Minerva's Den. I remember reading that the people who made the PC game Gone Home worked on Minerva's Den.

Picked up Jackbox. That'll be fun to play with the wife and kids. Still debating Never Alone.

For anyone who's played jackbox using the iPhone app, does it work ok? App reviews say it's not so good. I'd probably end up letting my wife use the Xbox controller while I use the app so I'm just curious.

Takes a minute to properly connect. Doesn't like older iPhones/iOS. Once it does connect, seems to work pretty well.

Wow. Almost two years later, Rock Band 3 is getting new, official dlc from HMX. I'll get these three songs to support HMX cause they're awesome. And the songs are out today

Available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 system (January 13th, 2015):

• Arctic Monkeys – “R U Mine?”
• Avenged Sevenfold – “Shepherd Of Fire”
• Foo Fighters – “Something From Nothing”

Price:
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU per song

It has been several years since I played them, but if you like the main game then the DLCs are pretty much more of the same. I don't remember anything particularly bad about them, except the achievement you mentioned. Yes, I earned it, and yes, it was a colossal waste of time. Though it's not as bad as you think -- there's a glitch where you can drive through a certain shop's store window and your car falls through the map and into infinite space. The falling counts as miles driven, but it's very, very slow.
Thanks, I'll get em before the week is over. Now that we've seen the new direction MS is taking with the 360 deals(repeats and sometimes at a less percentage than before), I think this is the best it's gonna get for me

So I have heard nothing but great things about Minerva's Den, however I got bored about halfway through Bioshock 2 and never completed it. This was several years ago. So is it worth it for me to even get Minerva's Den? By that I mean A) will I be missing something story related having not completed the main game?  and B) can I even access the content having not completed the main game? Thanks.  I loved Bioshock 1 BTW, and Infinite still sits in my backlog.

Passed on GTA V, tempted by Borderlands Pre-Sequel, will probably end up purchasing Puzzle Fighter.

Decided I have a new Games on Demand sale wish: Monster Jam: Path of Destruction. Game is hard to find at a decent price (usually ~$30 used). Think it retails on the marketplace for $39.99. I'd pay $20 for it!

Hooray!  Jackbox Party Pack for me!  I've been enjoying Giant Bomb's coverage of their time playing it.  Looks like a blast.  Wish I had discovered it before we had the family together for Christmas.

Can't use controller. Can use a computer though if phone has issues.

Minerva's Den is exactly what you want. From what I remember the story is standalone from 2 and can be played separately. All the progression is sped why up. It is like playing a bioshock game in a third of the time.

The story in Minerva has little or nothing to do with the main BS2 story IIRC. I think they were trying to echo BioShock 1 more with it because the story is kind of a mystery, there's a twist having to do with identity, etc. It's a shame you didn't finish the story in the vanilla game though because it's fantastic.

It add a lot to the story, maybe you played with eyes blinded, i'm not going to spoil it, but it has to do with how the little sisters were "created" and the origin of the big sister.

If I know people in this thread, and I'd like to think that I do, then you should pull the trigger on Puzzle Fighter while it's on sale and before Capcom inevitably pulls the plug on it.  Back in my day we didn't have fancy "deals with gold" weeks that allowed you to purchase games at a discount... you just bought it at full price... and we LIKED it that way!

No, we hated it.  But that game is fun and if you're thinking about buying it then you should.

Ah, that lovely feeling when you can't remember whether you already own a game or not. Turns out I did.

Shouldn't it be safe because it doesn't have any Marvel / Disney characters in it?

I'm on the flip side, thought I might've bought it during a sale, but haven't.

Without playing older games in the SSX series (except for Blur), including 2012's SSX, and therefore being unfamiliar with the characters, is the Mt. Eddie & Classic Characters Pack worth it at 50% off?

Sales and Specials page updated, looks like we missed another markdown on NBA 2K15 virtual currency.  Unlike BioShock Infinite, same markdowns as the last day of the countdown sale.  No indications yet what the Warframe markdowns are for.

No sales post from Major yet, though he has posted that Evolve is now available for digital preorder and pre-download.

Bought Never Alone last night. Pretty fun platformer and looks really nice for an indie game. I only played for 30 minutes last night and already got 350G lol. $10 well spent so far.

Tempted to get Never Alone, but then looked at my huge collection of unplayed X1 games and realized, new year, new goal to finish backlog games first (again).

Several maybes for me this sale, but I suspect I'll end up not getting anything, chances are slim that I'd ever have time for a maybe.

for those getting the free AC: Unity DLC, you can unlock a grenade launcher axe.

Yeah, sure why not. I got the MS spacebucks to burn

Marvel Ultimate Alliance DLC disagrees with you. That was removed from the marketplace the end of 2009. Only way to play as those eight additional characters is if you have that GOTY version which includes all dlc characters(four heroes and four villians. All the names escape me atm).

I'm just buying Puzzle Fighter HD to be safe.

Any wrestling fans in here watch Lucha Underground? Check out this cool 8bit trailer for tomorrow's episode.

I thought you could not play the original game, Unknown, from the Within game. That's what I remember reading back in the day.
'Enemy Within' is the 'Uknown' game with the added content woven in.

Unknown is the base game with nothing added.

So if your goal is to play a 'vanilla' version then Unknown is it.

If you want an 'upgraded' version then Enemy Within is it.

You can't click on something, for example, and ask the game to take out the extra content from 'Enemy Within', if you want to play a vanilla version, because the content is woven into the game.

(this is on console at least)

i know duke nukem isnt a good game but is it worth a look at that price?
If you know it's a bad game, can it be worth it at any price?

I think that actually was Bloomy's point though.

Marvel's DLC went away due to licensing issues and problems with having 3rd parties develop and distribute games. It's also the same reason why that DLC actually exists (in part and ironically). The Incredible Hulk license was in use by another studio at the time, but when it expired the character was permitted for use in Ultimate Alliance. It's why Dr. Banner appears in the game, but not his big angry self. For some reason (that I genuinely don't understand), it was okay to use his human form, but not the Hulk form. But after that license was no longer held by one studio they were able to add the DLC Hulk to the game, along with the 7 others; 4 heroes and 4 villains.

Puzzle Fighter is made by Capcom with Capcom characters. It should technically not just suddenly get delisted due to issue(s) with licensing, since Capcom owns all of the items for Puzzle Fighter. Aside from the 360s Live Store setup going away (inevitably), or Capcom going bankrupt and/or possibly being bought or having IPs being sold, I don't think this title will necessarily go away.

I get what people are saying though. The game has been on the Live market for a while, and Capcom could just delist it to no longer have to pay whatever nominal fee they owe Microsoft (or other online hosting places) to host that download.

Well, i just preordered RE remaster. I was just waiting for one good sign, one indication that it wouldn't crush my dreams and be a lazy cash grab. The new game informer came in the mail today and they gave it a 9.5. Like most of you, I don't trust reviews implicitly, but that was just the push I needed. I'm just letting you peeps know in case any of you were on the fence as I was.

I was really wishing they'd do more with the costumes (I know they added BSAA, but even a few extra little things would have been nice, like letting Jill have a Claire and Rebecca costume, or Chris have a Leon or Wesker costumes). If they were tied to the achievements or even the website they have for the games it could be a neat unlock.

I hear ya. RE just has a special place in my heart. I had pretty much stopped gaming in about 9th grade, only really booting up my snes to play games like super metroid, mega man x, link to the past and illusion of gaia. It wasn't until a friend came over from out of town and brought his GameCube and we stayed up all night playing RE. I went out the next week and bought my own, which eventually led to getting a 360, which eventually led to the One which has all added up to the ridiculous backlog I know and love today. RE is the reason I'm a grown man with kids and can still out game them all.

This concludes my short essay on what RE means to me :)
