So I was reading that the next DIGITAL ONLY Hitman game is getting a collector's edition where people are getting a chance to vote on the contents.  This seems stupid to me.  Why not just release game merchandise for sale instead.  I am sure it is because of promotional value but I would never buy a collector's edition without a disc.  I think Halo 5 is doing the same thing.

They are releasing the game digital first, and then physical once all the content is done and released.

That would be a cool option to have for some games, like Rock Band 4 or Fallout 4 that you'd like to get the physical stuff but be able to play the game whenever you want.

 
Just played destiny for the first time this weekend. Had a good time with it can anyone comment if the digital guardian edition on sale is a good deal? Haven't really been tracking this games price other than Amazon has base game for 27.99.

Finish the base game first (story-wise) and then evaluate how much you want to keep re-playing it before spending anything on the DLC already released, b/c it isn't going to add much new stuff. You'd think for $30, you'd have some choice content, but that $30 doesn't get you very much (imo). I think the trick with Destiny is knowing your limit and walking away then. Whenever you start to feel it's repetitious, unfair with rewards, or unbalanced, that's the point to leave, as it isn't getting any better from that point forward.

I had a lot of fun with Destiny early on, but I burned myself out on it, as it become pretty compulsive without much variety - logging in, running bounties/strikes over and over for maybe a new armor piece every other week, playing the same stuff in crucible, etc. Walking away after seeing the 1st DLC didn't add much content was one of my better decisions. I don't think I've logged in since the 2nd DLC and I had both paid for as part of the LE.

If this was any other game, the first two paid DLC packs might've been free content packs and/or much, much cheaper (like $5-$8 each). Who knows how much value Taken King will add for $40, given how overpriced the other two were.

This video shows why I am loving ESO. It wasn't until I unlocked PVP that I really started enjoying it.

The link should skip to our last stand in an outpost (about 17 defending against 40+) that we've been holding for the previous 2 hours. They finally overwhelm us, but we went down swinging. About 2 hours later we took the outpost back after successfully defending several counter attacks on our nearest castle. I didn't get to sleep until 8am

^^ There has never been a better time to get an XB1, than right now. This week, in fact, some retailers are offering a free game of your choice with purchase of the 500gb Halo bundle. Waiting to November is fine if that is your plan - especially since a lot of the big releases start coming in September - but I just wanted to mention the free game deal this week.

On a separate note, the Turtle Beach XO One headset arrived in the mail today - and they are awesome - fantastic sound. Definitely worth $50.

I know a ton of people who have played/still play Destiny, but pretty much all of them hate it. The ones that still play tell me that the time and money invested in it is what drives them to keep going. Like one day they'll have enough fun to justify it, but they say it seems to get worse the longer you're in for. I find it hilarious.

i don't see destiny too different from other mmo with monthly subscription. they try to make the game free without monthly subscription, but instead are just slowly pushing dlcs in the form of expansion packs to get more money every few months.

Monthly MMOs have tons more content. They would be able to get away with it if there were no other MMOs offering way more content for less price.

destiny's progression system is actually very similar to mobile free2play games. multiple energy/currency/resources to slow down progression. random loot almost like opening card packs. good thing they didnt have microtransactions, so we assume its more incompetence than malicious intent. it is getting better, but still not worth it if you dont play with friends

for instance my friend really want this one gun that only drops from one particular boss. loot for that boss only drops once per week per character (you can make three characters). so every week he beats the boss three times, for three dice rolls that he still hasnt gotten lucky on. and try again next week.

shooting and moving around works very well, but story, end game diversity and overall value are lacking. i would say it is better with friends, and if you do hard core pvp

just realized I needed 2 codes for the xbox one, i was sent both for being in preview program, but on the console it only showed the second message, had to check on pc to see it sent 2 different codes

They do get away with it because how many MMOs are on console? Defiance and... that's about it on Xbox. And they were smart not calling it an MMO, because that term seems to have a lot of stigma these days.
 
The ones I can think of on Xbox Defiance (not much content either), Final Fantasy 11 (although I think support is ending soon if it hasn't already), Neverwinter, Elder Scrolls Online, and Warframe. Think there were a few others that shut down like Phantasy Star.

Destiny felt like a trial of a real MMO. I wouldn't mind the expansion prices the base game was loaded with more stuff.

I don't think there was anything wrong with it perse, it was just a little too big. Although I never actually had one, I had the "slimmer" version in blue. That gif should include the Elite controller as well.

On a side note, I kinda hate nearly all Nintendo controllers. Sure, the NES/SNES ones were great for the time, but once the PlayStation 1 came around with the DualShock, followed by Xbox, Ninty just couldn't do something ideal for me. The N64 controller was weird as hell, to this day nobody knows how someone was supposed to hold it as it required 3 hands. The GC one wasn't bad but the stick was incredibly limited, and the triggers were clunky too. The Wiimote is fun as a motion controller but it's pretty bad for classic gaming, good thing they released the pro controller. Same goes for the Wii U, with the big screen controller being rather uncomfortable on the long run - again, thanks for the pro version Ninty.

The DualShock first, then the 360 controller, ultimately the Xbox One controller: these controllers made me way too picky as I've found ridiculous comfrot with them, and it's been complicated getting back to other less ergonomic solutions ever since.

You, sir, are wrong. Initially, the N64 controller seems bizarre, I'll grant you that. A third hand wasn't necessary, it just offered different control configurations which would require that you changed the way you held it from game to game. It really was quite the clever design! The analog stick wasn't great, sure, but it was something new at the time and you can't blame Nintendo for not getting it right on their first attempt.

 
I hated that controller.

I think we're in the golden age right now. DS4, 360/One, Wii U Pro, perhaps the Steam controller...all pretty damn ergonomic.

The S controller on the OG Xbox was the step they needed in the direction to get the controllers where they are today. Going from the super fat Duke to the S was amazing when it happened
 
I don't consider Destiny and Warframe to be MMOs outside of having a similar style of social hooks. They're just online-connected shooters.

The only controller I have enjoyed less than the Xbox Controller S is the Dreamcast controller, as both were bad for trigger-heavy games like racing games.

You forgot Happy Wars, that's considered an MMO, right? I've never personally bothered with it. I'm pretty terrible at competitive modes/games and I know my place in the world.




Switching gears and speaking of controllers, has anyone experienced their thumbs getting tingly like they're falling asleep from long-ish sessions on the X1? I've started experiencing that lately and it's lovely. It seems to be especially bad if I start off with Rogue Legacy since I'm using the D-pad and not the sticks. After too much RL even switching over to the analog sticks doesn't seem to make the feeling go away for long before returning. I think I'm going to chalk it up to another sign that carpal tunnel surgery is in my near-future.

Fair enough but the Dual Shock came out years earlier, and had two infinitely superior sticks. Not hating on Nintendo for trying to innovate but I just didn't enjoy that controller at all.
