Reminded me to finally check and pull the trigger. Went to the XB1 Minecraft page, showed $19.99. Refreshed once, $19.99. Refreshed with shift key, $4.99. Ok, purchase. Got to confirmation screen, confirm ... something went wrong, please try again later. Marketplace page still shows the $4.99 price. Figure I'll try later tonight from the console. Then I get an e-mail confirming the purchase. WTF? Go to the commerce site, my balance was the same as before and my transactions show a $4.99 debit for Minecraft followed by a $4.99 credit for it. Try purchasing again, and it went through. Marketplace now shows purchased, and my transactions / balance reflect the purchase. Got it on both systems for $15 total.

So for any other procrastinators out there, the Minecraft upgrade discount still appears to be live.

I think you overestimate the general public's knowledge about video game systems and purchasing habits. There are plenty of people who have no clue what games are on consoles and just barely recognize words like Halo, Mario, or Minecraft. There are even a lot of people who own consoles that don't realize there are more than one or two games that come out per month for the console they own.

Yes, Minecraft is doing quite well on it's own, but that doesn't mean Microsoft couldn't leverage that brand name to help move consoles. Sometimes bundles are just about name recognition and how they'll look on a shelf. In our video game bubble, we think you'd have to be an idiot to purchase the Lego Movie bundle that just got announced, but there are a lot of people who are ignorant (both on pricing and what games are available) and will probably make the decision to get that one for their kid because they were considering getting a console and their kid likes lego stuff. The same would go for Minecraft (possibly even more so).

 
Tony Hawk isn't as bad as I was expecting. That video going around may have been an unfinished version of the game. I've only had audio glitches so far. I prefer the open world games better, but this one is still fun. Little over halfway through the game now. The customization isn't as personal, but there are some great costumes to choose from. There's also co-op missions, but I haven't tried any yet.

I'm liking the game a lot so far, but feels more like a $20-$30 game. Still going to hope for American Wasteland BC
 
I got offended by Bloomy's post, went to the xbox site and bought the minecraft for 4.99; none of the 'refresh' shenanigans either.  :nottalking:

Make sure you look into live compatibility, as both the OG and 360 checked your hdd while online so it could only be certain make/model/capacities.

They took out all flatland stuff, as well as being able to get off your board, added a super terrible "slam" to the grind button when in midair (I guess they saw Olliolli and figured "WE SHOULD DO THAT"), the physics are super busted, reverts/manuals feel like they don't trigger sometimes when they should, it looks like shit, runs even worse, you auto-wallride for some reason instead of having to trigger it, which can interfere with jumps, you have to load in and out of every single mission instead of just activating them within the world...

Sorry, but as a fan of the THPS series this thing is a fucking turd and should not have been released. Like, literally, considering that all that's on the disc is the tutorial and create-a-park, the entire Real Game is in a day one patch. fuck that shit, come on!

Reverts and manuals work just fine. I haven't had any issues with wall runs auto triggering either, and getting off the board was one of the worst things they ever added. I've played a shitload of Tony Hawk and didn't feel like there was a ton wrong with the controls. If you've played a lot of the old Tony Hawks this shouldn't feel foreign. I scored a 1.3 million point combo within 20 minutes of playing and was in the top 100 worldwide earlier. Physics are really fucked up at times though and the game definitely looks like shit

You need to have the game show up in your 360 played or purchased list for the discount to appear. Playing a borrowed / rented disc would work.

I had popped in my disc for the first time on 9/5 (the 1 year anniversary of XB1 Minecraft), and the discounted price showed up a few days later. The initial promotion said it would last for a year, but the game's splash page still promotes it, so maybe they dropped the 1 year requirement. Or maybe the price lingers for those that previously played it, but new 360 players won't get the discount. I could try testing it with my disc and a silver account. I figured if any of Microsoft's cross buy / upgrade discount expiration dates would hold, it would be Minecraft's, but we'll see.

I wouldn't mind the removal of running if not for the absolutely trash level design. It makes it much harder to get back to certain spots to retry objectives, instead of just having (as in Skate) starting points you can set wherever.

I also don't think I would hate the game nearly as much if not for the way you load in and out of every. Single. Mission. The online "free skate" stuff is so worthless, and even if you hit "private match" you still have to load in and out of missions. The best part of that mode is how, now that I am a robot with a snowman head, I can just stand near where all new players spawn in so I'm the first thing they see. Then everything is downhill (jam) from there.

I think the one place it really nails the Tony Hawk vibe is the soundtrack -- not that it's good, at least not to me, but I find it to be the same "mostly shit but with a couple of songs I kinda like" that all of the previous games have had. Now that's authentic!

My daughter would want this. Her love of minecraft is a bit unnerving at times, and her love of minecraft spilled over to the youngest who cannot even play games yet. The you tube videos with stampy cat laughter give me bad dreams.

I am hoping someone can recommend shadow of mordor dlc? I haven't played the game and debating on the Goty edition. By the time you complete the main campaign do you want to play the dlc, and general recommdations of it. Thanks in advance.

Lol about the robot snowman. I truthfully have not done anything but skate around the first level for a little bit and pull off combos. Level designon the 1st level was pretty bad but was at least functional and allowed tricks to flow well enough.

I haven't tried any missions so I haven't experienced all the loading yet though, but I'm sure it will drive me nuts if it's bad.

Soundtrack seems pretty solid though so far, but I also heard the classic shit music you mentioned too

That first level is a real fucker because it makes you think this game might not be that bad. It's sparse enough that the framerate dips are fairly uncommon, compared to the total disaster you get from level 2 onward. That's also when the missions really start highlighting how bad the physics are.

Like, if your definition of a good Tony Hawk game is "can I bust out sick combos", sure, you can do that here. However, the missions are often making you hit certain objects, run certain lines, etc, and the game cannot cope with that level of required precision. The grind-slam is the worst offender, as it often makes the physics bug the hell out, and sometimes teleports you to random-ass places. Bonelesses also seem to be kinda messed up if you're trying to time it off a ramp or one of their air-boost things, or trying to boneless out of a manual.

The auto-wallride is glitchy too, which is why I said it can mess up combos. Sometimes it shoots you way up in the air, or sometimes you're doing a vert combo and you just wallride and careen off to another area when you didn't want to.

IN SUMMATION

I just played like 3 hours of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 and it's not as bad as everyone is making it seem. The game isn't perfect but it's also not terrible. I have been enjoying what I played so far. At $60 I would not buy it but for $20 I would.
