Do you let him play or do you do the unplugged controller trick? And how old is he/how good is he at video games? It might be a little beyond his depth, but it's fun enough that you won't be bored out of your mind if you "help" him.

Minecraft has never gone on sale digitally aside from the now dead 360 to Xbox One discount. Physical can be slightly cheaper, and if you you have access to ExpertZone it's like $9 when it's available.

It probably won't go on sale unless it's a joke price like Rocket League this week, especially since the original PC version is still $26.95.

The second pack was largely designed for Twitch streaming with the games that have audience participation in them and options to change the timer to better get around the stream delay on Twitch for the audience. The first pack is fine, though I don't know if they've done anything there.

Holy crap there are some terrible parents out there. "I want my kid to play video games, but he sucks too much to even entertain himself so I better play for him on the down low."

I watched my nephew play plenty of games wrong, but he was having fun and he has his whole life ahead of him to worry about high scores and cheevos. I've also tried to help him with LEGO games only for him to figure out what to do and how to do it long before me.

I used the controller trick on my little brothers back in the day. He is six and is able to win races in forza horizon 2 on easy. Thanks for the replies all. Definately picking it up now

It's not like I do it for all games. But I'm not going to sit and watch my brother get frustrated and angry at a game way beyond his depth.

Does it also bother you that parents lie about Santa Claus? Or that kids use training wheels?

I'm looking for a headset adapter for Xbox one. I have plenty of 1/8" Jack headsets, but I have the old controller. Is the chat headset really that bad? It's $25 and so is the stereo adapter. The adapter seems overpriced to me. Can't I just buy the chat headset and a replacement plan from Best Buy or something?

It just seems crazy that they've phased out the old controllers and yet the adapter is still pricey. What gives!?

Is it just me or does anyone else have planetary landings on Elite Dangerous? I haven't bought Horizons and as far as I was concerned it wasn't releasing until next week, but I am able to land on planets and have shiny new graphics and a new mission system in my game.

I bought it for the same reason.. Except, my son isn't really into games, at all. He's messed around in Forza Horizon, driving in straight lines and crashing into trees. He's not quite grasped that he only needs to use the right trigger, but he holds both in just so it'll vibrate. Also noticed him twisting the controller like a steering wheel, instead of using the thumbstick. He'll be four next month though, so he's still learning. Lol

As for Cars, he wanted no parts of playing it. But while I was playing, and asked if he wanted to, he replied with "no I'm watching Cars" so I guess to him it was like watching the movie.

Haven't showed him Toy Story yet.

My Elite Dangerous is updating so crossing fingers that it's the expansion.
 
Is there still a good chance Bioshock is coming to BC? There no longer on the coming soon section and there are rumors of a collection coming out. I don't want to buy them and not be able to play them but I know they will most likely be more after the come to backward compatibility.

Nope. Nope. Neither of those will teach them skills that do not correspond to reality, whereas mislearning hand/eye coordination will definetly cause frustration once the controller is plugged in.

If a game is inappropriate for him, be that by content or gameplay, then he shouldn't be playing it. If he wants to swim in the deep end, that's just too bad because he's not ready. You have to learn to crawl before you can walk, if he's getting frustrated with a game that's beyond his comprehension/dexterity maybe that's a sign to boot up something else?

If he can have fun playing the games, regardless of whether he's "playing it right," then there's no need to deceive him. Tricking him into thinking he knows how to play the game is also just postponing the frustration he'll have when he actually tries to play and finds out all the things he's been doing don't work.


Honestly, what it sounds like both you guys are saying is that it annoys you to watch them play the game wrong. Leave the room; most kids that get frustrated, get bored and move on if they don't have someone there to complain to.

I would hold off if you don't have a 360 to play them on. They've been on sale enough times, and at that price. They'll go on sale again eventually and maybe they'll be BC by then, or we'll have a collection.

 
I'm really enjoying Overwatch. I just wish that the game didn't have annoying character specific achievements. The only characters I seem to play really good with are D.Va,Genji,Thorbjorn, and Tracer. Everyone else I fail miserably with them.

I'm not at all emotionally invested in this topic. I'm not mad at you, I don't pity your brother, frankly I don't care about you or your family enough to judge you. I just think your plan to avoid frustration is flawed and will only postpone and amplify their frustration.

Don't feel bad tho, no one does. People in the middle of arguements don't get convinced by arguements. Someone on the sidelines, however, with nothing invested, could read my points and have it clarify for them the opinion they already had. That's all most people do, look for someone saying what they already agree with. I'm not exempt from that. There's a reason I read more Sarte than Hegel. One of them reinforces my assumptions about pointlessness and the other is full of shit.

I wanted to get into the top 5 nuggets convo, but it's hard when only Chick-Fil-A has nuggets that are worth a crap. I mean, once every 3 years or so, I randomly want McDonald's chicken nuggets, but I get sick of them after I've eaten about five.

I don't think it's a big deal if you're only good at a few, especially if they're different types. You've got attack, tank, builder covered so if your team needs one or the other you can adjust. I'm trying to do the same thing, so thus far I've focused my efforts on D.Va, Soldier: 76, Reinhardt for escort attack, and more recently Torbjorn. Used Tracer a bit today and it was fun, though there usually isn't a shortage of randoms wanting to be attackers.

Re: the achievements, I hear you. I'm not a completionist by any means, but I'm not immune to the Pavlovian appeal of achievements, either. I don't mind the ones that you can get naturally with a well-executed play that you should be trying for anyway (ie kill 4 opponents with D.Va's ultimate), but stuff that requires you to play the game in a dumbass way or that is more about luck than skill is annoying.
