I'm mainly a Playstation user, so I'm used to their deep discounts (Like PC gamers with Steam). I must say this is a bit of a surprise how expensive the deals still are on Xbox.

Maybe one of the Dirt games on backward compatibility, never got to play them last gen. Wonder if the framerate is better worse or unchanged via emulation.

I seriously cannot wait for RDR. Sold my physical copy years ago, and I've been wanting to play it lately but was disappointed to see it wasn't on the backwards compatibility list. I own the Undead Nightmare DLC digitally -- does this mean I won't have to re-purchase RDR digitally if I have the UN DLC? I guess I'll find out on Friday.

Probably a sucker buy..but the $25 in e-rewards Gamestop credit I used on a Microsoft card will help offset it..hoping the $8 I paid for Life is Strange isn't too much.

Also..is it wrong that I kind of like the Shadow of Mordor GOTY edition? Started it a few weeks ago and am loving the stealth part of it.

I find it nice to be able to stream the xbone to my PC. Also my 360 is way louder and generates more heat.

 
That's the reason I always tend to go digital hahaha, I'm sometimes lazy enough to change the disc , and if you got children at home there's a risk that they'll break if you have them in disc
 
I've still got my 360 but it's definitely on it's last legs. Disc tray barely works, and refuses to open if it doesn't already have a disc inserted. It takes forever to start up, and is loud as hell at all times. I need a new controller too. But since it RROD'd back in 2009 it's kept on chugging, 9 years old now.

Having the new features and being able to be in parties is a big plus for me on the BC front though. I still want to get a new 360 for the long haul for the games that don't make it to BC, for the games that run like shit on Xbone (Reach), and to actually be able to LAN on games.

The lack of LAN support is still the biggest bummer for me this generation. Console LAN parties are pretty much dead, and me and my cousin liked to LAN at my house just to have a more solid connection, connecting through the same modem seems to make some games unplayable (Halo 5). I didn't even realize it was possible until looking it up just now, looks like 14 games in 3 years. At least Master Chief Collection is technically possible, though I don't know how stable it would be. It sucks pretty hard that Halo and Gears both dropped support, only CoD is still holding the torch as far as shooters go.

Can I get some advice on the Mass Effect DLC?  Which ones are "must have"?  I already purchased Lair of the Shadow Broker and The Citadel.  Is there any DLC for part 1 worth owning?

DLC for 1 blows, if you have to get one get Bring Down the Sky.

ME2, Shadow Borker is the biggest must have, I'd say Kasumi is second. Overlord is alright.

Can't speak for ME 3.

Grabbed Ori for the time being. Never thought I'd have much interest in yet another side scrolly adventure but I watched a couple of gameplay vids and it looks fun.

Has anybody else noticed how weird MS has categorized these sales? The "see all deals" menu doesn't show all the games, the "games under $20" doesn't show all games under 20, etc. It's annoying to have to look through all of them just to get a definitive list of everything. 

 
still has some free xbox credit so I decided to grab american nightmare, having recently completed alan wake and all the DLC figure I might as well complete the saga, only thing for me on this ultimate sale

Here's all the DLC and my recommendations, with slight spoilers:

ME1

  • Pinnacle Station: Adds a simulation battle arena and gives Shepard a swanky apartment. Can skip.
  • Bring Down the Sky: A mission to save a planet from being destroyed by an asteroid. You can pretend you're Bruce Willis in Armageddon. Should consider.
ME2

  • Normandy Crash Site: Lets you see the wreckage of the SR1 and experience brief moments of remembrance for fallen comrades. Very short. Can skip.
  • Zaeed - The Price of Revenge: Adds a new companion, a brusque mercenary. Should consider.
  • Kasumi - Stolen Memory: Adds a new companion, a stealthy thief. Definitely get.
  • Overlord: Investigate a questionable Cerberus experiment with the geth. Should consider.
  • Lair of the Shadow Broker: Help Liara to track down the Shadow Broker. Adds lots of new intel, fun story. Definitely get.
  • Arrival: Rescue a scientist held by Batarians. Connected to a Reaper artifact. Should consider.
  • Any outfit/weapon DLC: Appearance is purely aesthetic. Armor and weapons are good to have and use, but not a significant change or advantage. Can skip.
  • Genesis: A short interactive comic that allows you to make major choices from ME1. Can skip.
ME3

  • Extended Cut: Fills holes in the end of the game that left most fans unsatisfied. Definitely get.
  • From Ashes: Adds a character and a powerful weapon. Should have come with the base game and never have been a DLC. Definitely get.
  • Leviathan: Adds new intel and lore related to the Reapers. Should consider.
  • Omega: Help Aria T'loak take Omega back from Cerberus. Features the only notably female turian character in the entire damn series. Should consider.
  • Citadel: The most fun and exciting shore leave anyone's ever had. Fanservice galore. Definitely get.
  • Any outfit/weapon DLC: Again, appearance is purely aesthetic. Armor and weapons are good to have and use, but not a significant change or advantage. Can skip.
  • Genesis 2: Again, a short interactive comic to make major choices from ME1 and ME2. Can skip.
  • Any multiplayer DLC: Download all the free stuff if you have any intention of doing multiplayer (which increases war assets in single player), but only get the paid stuff if you spend a lot of time with it. Should consider.
To reiterate, these are my own opinions.

I've played the entire trilogy at least three times, and the DLC definitely add some extra umph to the game and its story. If you love the Mass Effect series and can afford it, buy all of it. Otherwise, see above.

I can't believe how horrible the Xbox store is -especially on Xbox One. There are times when I literally cannot find a specific item using search because it's so bad - let alone just browsing. I understand not wanting to overwhelm the shopper with too many choices, but every time I interact with it i'm shocked at how poor the design is. It seems like it might have gotten better lately with some of the searches improving, but it still has a lot of room for improvement.

That being said, Sony's console marketplace is not much better (although their website does pretty well).

Does he have a 4k tv and interest in UHD BD? No, stick with xbone fatty.

Is he a casual gamer? If yes to previous two, go for S.

Is he a hardcore gamer that spends 20+ hrs a week gaming and wants good gfx but doesn't want to hassle with drivers? Wait for Scorpio.

If you don't have a disc, and don't have the base game digitally, you won't be able to play just the DLC. You'll need either the base game digitally or a disc to play the DLC.

IMO there's no point in buying the S unless you're adamant about the whole 4K thing or space-conscious. The regular phat Xbox is both cheaper and works just as well. You can even find a Kinect for it if you're into that sorta thing, whereas with the S you need to jump through hoops just to get a dongle that will support a Kinect (I believe it's 25 bucks unless you can prove ownership of a regular Xbox One as well as an S).

I think the Scorpio will have more long term value and it will usher in the age of VR on Xbox, whether that's going to be a passing fad or not. Still, long term value is better here than the S. Get a regular fatty box and wait a year and upgrade.

 
You think RDR is going to be the only game added to BC this week? I think it would be a good week with the sale to add some more games.

Picked up Life is Strange and Shadow of Mordor:GOTY feeling content enough with my already piling backlog... then they announced Red Dead Redemption BC and now I'm thinking about dropping $7.50 more. Never played the game, but I know I'll want the Undead Nightmare DLC to go along with it. Should I bite on the digital version now in hopes the DLC will go on sale later, or wait to find a physical GOTY copy at a decent price down the road? Does the GOTY disc have any other DLC worth the extra effort?
 
Get the regular game now and wait and see. I'm sure you can find the DLC for cheap, but even then the undead nightmare stuff is for the end of the story. You can at least play through the main game until then.

 
For anybody interested in these games, CDKeys has Quantum Break for 36 bucks (45 in the summer sale here) and Halo MCC for 10 bucks (20 in the summer sale).

Does he already have an X1? Honestly unless he has a 4k display it seems much smarter to just get a standard X1 now or Holiday time for very little money and then if he really enjoys it get a Scorpio later down the road once it is released.

 
Pretty much. Red Dead is one of the 360 game I think holds up best graphically, and didn't really have performance issues.

Some people are under the impression that any disc version will give you access to all content including DLC. I guess the language is unclear in their press release but I'll be surprised if that's actually the case. I only have the Undead Nightmare disc so I'll be happy if it is accurate.

Obviously this is conjecture, but looking at the Fallout New Vegas GOTY edition and backward compatibility, it could be similar where the second disc of the Red Dead Redemption GOTY edition is needed to install the full game as well as all of the DLC, but the first disc will only install the vanilla game. (I could, and am probably, incorrect, but this is based upon what I've read regarding experiences with New Vegas.)

As a disc owner and digital Undead owner, I hope that is incorrect. The 8th can't come soon enough!
