You're implying that if Sony came out and said "no more plus games or discounts," there wouldnt be a significant number of people who unsubscribe. And that's ridiculous. The only reason why people didn't fuss was BECAUSE OF the free games.


Sony offered free internet play and then convinced us we should pay because of all the plus games; the games inherently became part of Plus's value at that very moment, whether you personally acknowledge it or not.

No sir - no matter how you personally spin it, the fact is that many of us have been conditioned to incorporate those games into to value of these subscriptions.

And coming from Nintendo and PC ("free" internet play), yeah, those games are probably the majority of what I consider Plus/XBL offers. Otherwise, what does it offer? An internet connection?

Thanks for the tip and i really enjoyed this game since it was basically final fantasy minus the summons.Only thing that was wrong with it was the boring dreams that were like 15-30 pages long.
 
Personally I don't care if they stop offering free games, I had XBL before they implemented them and I'll have it afterwards as well. I like playing online and I like connecting with friends.

It's a nice touch but I know I'm going to keep buying it even if they take it away. I buy it solely for online multiplayer access.

Does it suck that I have to pay more to play online multiplayer? Absolutely, but I like playing online multiplayer too much to protest and vote with my wallet.

I agree, I can't play Destiny otherwise, but my opinion of the service would change and not for the better.

It's like gas prices going up. I'm still going to buy gas (not much of a choice for me), I'll just be more sour about it.

 
Yesterday, right after booting up, my Xbox 360 displayed the message 'Optional Media Update Downloaded'. There was no prompt for an installation, as when there's an update available, it was already on the Home screen. I've never installed any apps on it, just games (I'm ancient, I know).

Does anyone have an idea what that was about?

This update enables the 360 to play mp4, avi,and other media files. My 360 did the same thing .

 
Hot damn! Loved Lost Odyssey (much more so than Blue Dragon, although I know there are fans of that game as well).

Guessing you can just put the first disc in and it'll install the whole game? Will be nice with no disc switching.

I've been meaning to get this game forever but I don't have a PS4 and just haven't gotten around to buying it on WiiU (or plugging in my WiiU again so I can buy it). I'm tempted to pick it up on Xbox but I'm worried about the d-pad controls. How precise a platformer is it? Should I just get it on PC instead? (I know the real answer is to buy it on every platform to support the dev)

It controls really well. You can use either the d-pad or left stick for movement/aiming.

 
Shit, I kept putting off grabbing Lost Odyssey, was assuming it'd be a while still. Hopefully the local places have a reasonably priced copy.

I am a bit surprised Gearbox is publishing that Bulletstorm HD version. I know the devs sort of regretted how over the top the dialouge was, since they didn't realize it was so dumb due to mostly not speaking English. It's right up Gearbox's alley though. If it does get a sequel now I think it'd be bad in a different way if Gearbox did the writing. It depends if Epic sold them the IP or not. Really seems like Epic is done with traditional games though, sticking to F2P nonsense.

XBL has offered a premium subscription service, Gold, since it's inception. 12 month codes have been on sale for $30-35 forever, and before GwG I used to hold out for the $1/month dashboard ads and let my sub lapse for a couple days/week, but even then I missed party chat and multiplayer. Before I got a 360, I was a PC multiplayer snob and initally balked at XBL. Once I played on XBL, I realized that $3/month was a cheap price to pay for solid servers, decent tech support, and community. To each their own, but GwG is just gravy for me.

Sony wanted to compete with XBL's superior multiplayer, but they'd lose customers if they just started charging for what many would feel they used to get for free. So they sold it with the promise of free games, and then M$ was forced to add GwG to compete.

IMO, M$ still offers a better multiplayer service and Sony no longer has an edge with better free games, and the $10 price hike for Sony is enough to lose my business if I can't find cheap codes when I need to renew.

Not available yet to install for me, but file size is 22.4 GB. I wanna play this game now but since its the Fall season, I always aim to play a Halloween-ish game or two. Just finished Costume Quest 2 for the first time(loved it just like CQ1) and was going to move on to Dead Rising 3. Decisions decisions.....

Its possible but usually they announced their holiday bundles by now. If we don't hear anything in October, its safe to say there won't be one. I would say wait till Black Friday because there will be good bundles then or jump on the free game with an Xbox One S now.

See that's what I thought as well.

I was going to trade my XB1 toward the S Holiday bundle, but last year it was announced during late Sept.. we've heard/seen nothing yet.

The free game right now IS tempting though... since I was going to flip it for the 50% extra at Best Buy (Making GTAV and Forza Horizon 3 $40 each)

One, the internet can fail and or people don't always have a super fast connection. Two, collectors would rather have something tactile versus something stored in a cloud they can lose. Three, the prices of movies via streaming are about the same as just out right buying it. I mean why pay $19.99 for a New Release when I can go and buy it get the DVD, BD and a digital copy to redeem. *shrug* Like you, I have nothing against streaming just for me I'd rather own my movies.

Those of us using Pogoplug Cloud online backup got 7 days notice this past week that the service was shutting down and that our data was being deleted. It was an unlimited backup service ... so for those that had .5TB, 1TB or more of data backed up were screwed. There was no way anyone stood a chance of getting all that downloaded within a week on a typical residential connection - not to mention the fact that the servers were jammed with everyone trying to get their data downloaded.

So sending everything to the cloud has HUGE drawbacks. I learned my lesson about giving control of my content to a cooperation that could revoke it at any time. I lost 650GB of data, although I did get all of my most important stuff before the shutdown.
