Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
[*]Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
[*]Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Guess it's my turn to go unload a few titles to GameStop, including Alan Wake for more than I paid for it 6 years ago (still had the receipt tucked in the case).

On the plus side, I had totally forgotten that I had Marvel vs Capcom for the Dreamcast. Anyone know a good place to score other Dreamcast games (other than Gamestop/eBay)? Really want to add a few titles but some of them are way overpriced at those sites.
Check the TIV of your games before you take them to GameStop.

GameStop nerfed values on trade ins yesterday.

GameStop's retro games are very reasonable especially if you use the buy2g1 and cag16

considering Budokai collection for no reason. Odd decision to name it a collection and omit the second game entirely.
Forgive my ignorance, but is Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 not the second game? I know absolutely nothing about the series. What games are they similar to in play style?

Edit: nevermind, I think we're talking about different things because I'm an idiot and can't read today.

Budokai is DragonBall, not Naruto.

Speaking of which, is anyone watching Dragon Ball Super? I don't know if there was an episode last weekend, but the episode from the weekend before was pretty cool. I wish there was a free (legal) way to stream these episodes from the beginning of the season.

Guess my GameStop haul was decent. I traded in a couple Xbox one games {gta 5 , metro redux and far cry 4) and some Xbox 360 games got $200. Now I repurchased gta 5, metro and far cry 4 digitally and still got a good chunk of store credit left... not bad at all

I think you just got lucky or weren't observant enough. Even a couple patches in there were still falling-through-map glitches, Frostbite clearly doesn't handle the strain of a fast moving vehicle in such big maps well, enemies getting stuck in walls, squad AI often being garbage, and there were all kinds of issues aside from animation in cutscenes and dialogue if they weren't part of the core quests.
I should've specified that I didn't encounter any game breaking issues. There was the one time where my character was shown "inside" another character (as in two graphic assets occupying the same space) during a cutscene which I won't spoil. Aside from that (and numbnut teammates which I expect of any AI teammate anyways), I honestly never saw any of those other issues you mentioned. I completed the game twice, too, once on normal doing everything important (side and companion quests) and once on an insanity speedrun.

It's really too bad for the franchise. And especially in light of so many publishers wanting games with "live services," I fear we'll be seeing fewer single player story-driven AAA titles in the future.

Thanks to those that brought the GS deal to this thread's attention, I never check that mess of a thread. Traded in 24 games (20 were 360 titles) and came out with $280 and a free PUR subscription.

Oh I know (about the values). Still I got $64 for old ass games that I didn't want and couldn't give away cause I gots no friends. :)

As for the Dreamcast games. I really only want a few and the costs seemed really high at GameStop. Of course, everyone wants those games too for that system..still..so they are high priced everywhere I am sure.

Now back on topic. Finally got around to playing Firewatch. Still not sure if I liked it. I guess it was ok for what it was. I don't really have anything to compare it too though.

Probably only grabbing Voodoo Vince. Not much else that's interesting.

The Xbox.com/Microsoft.com site needs a huge overhaul ASAP. It's a mess.

PSN has some problems – like not being able to separate deals by system (at least on mobile).

But it’s still miles better than the web fronts for Xbox. No real “store front”. No way to see current deals. It is embarrassing IMO.

The 8pm episode was a repeat of the prior week, the Toonami block ran an Attack on Titan marathon.

OK, so maybe you guys can provide some insight....

I was going thru the UGS list and was considering getting WWE 2k17 Digidal Deluxe Edition, when I noticed that the vanilla version was showing "Owned" on my X1 console. (I've never purchased this game.) When I looked at the game info, it said "Play this for free with Xbox Gold or buy to own". So I say 'what the hell' and hit the install button and the game downloads for free and plays just fine.

Now, it was my understanding that the only time this game was free to play was the week prior to Wrestlemania a couple of months ago. I keep searching the game info page and multiple Google searches, but can't find anything which tells me why I was able to download it for free NOW or if there's a time limit on it or WTF.

Does anyone know why this game is still showing free to play? And is there an actual time limit I'm not aware of or can I just assume that the game is mine unless I let my Gold expire? I'd hate to have the game expire on me after UGS ends.

Anyone had a chance to play Raiders of the Broken Planet yet? Any thoughts?
I have, my thoughts below. Add me if you want to try to play during the next beta weekend.

I played a couple hours the weekend before last. It has potential but the beta is beyond dead as far as players go. I never found a matchmade game, had to rely on LFG instead. Once we had a group of 4 we did consistently find a fifth from the Antagonist mode. I'm worried about how many players the full game will have, but the game and it's beta have hardly been advertised so maybe it'll be fine. A low playerbase could be a fatal flaw, as you either have to play solo or be able to find a full team of 4 to even play.

As for the game itself, the gameplay is fun but the loot system needs work. At the end of a match you all pick your rewards and they're split between players if more than one person picks the same reward. Like Pick between 100 gold, 100 character points, or 100 something else, and if 2 people pick one it's only 50/50. It seemed like the rewards themselves were pretty light, with most of the things I could spend points or gold on being pretty expensive when compared to the amount you get per game. It does look like character skins are connected to microtransactions, though I don't know if you'll be able to earn that currency in game

The menu was buggy and somewhat unclear, though these I think are just beta issues. It seemed like you could unlock more levels but they don't seem to be there, or they weren't unlocking for some reason. We had menu options disappear more than once requiring a game reboot.

Finally, I'll talk about some gameplay thoughts. The core game itself is fine, though some of the special abilities each character has are much more interesting than others. It's designed around teamwork pretty heavily, if you get surrounded alone you are screwed. Boss battles are well designed and fun. The levels themselves are pretty linear and enemies spawn the same or very similarly every time you play, so I don't know how we'll they'll hold up for the multiple replays the game intends for you to do. Maybe they have plans for this, modifiers or randomized enemies or something. Normal players have a set number of lives, if you run out,at least one person has to survive for a timer that increases each time you burn all team lives, and you fail if no one survives.

Lastly, the Antagonist mode probably needs some changes. It works like Counter-Ops in Perfect Dark. A normal squad of 4 playing the normal mission, with one enemy player with infinite lives trying to stop them. In theory it's cool but the enemy isn't powered up in any way, so if you're paying attention they aren't much of a threat, usually at best they kill one person and the rest of the team wrecks them in return. There is one character that I think is designed for this mode, because her ability is near worthless against AI. If she focuses on an enemy for a set amount of time, she becomes invisible to that person. That combined with a sniper that is good playing as her could be a real threat, otherwise I think you'd have to be really good with the other characters and some just don't seem viable in this mode.

I don't know that you'll find any great deals online. Check your local retro stores if you have any. The selection in my town has been pretty slim . I dug out my Dreamcast stuff recently so have been looking around. I did find that it's totally possible to just burn the majority of games on normal CDs and run them on a stock system though, maybe look into that if you're comfortable with it.

Check estarland.com, they have a ton of DC games (many still new/sealed). I had a huge collection of DC games and systems, unloaded a lot on them, many still sealed (including 8 new DC systems). I still have some sealed shmups like Gigawing, Gigawing 2, Mars Matrix, Gunbird 2, Cannon Spike, etc. that I'll be unloading at some point.

Well, the first Kinect was nothing to write home about, but Kinect 2.0 is the nicest video game related camera on the market that significantly improves the Xbox One console. Not to mention the really cool hacks you can do with it. I purchased a 2nd Xbox One (white version) so I was able to jump back and forth between my launch version with a Kinect and the white version without a Kinect and it took about 7 days before I ordered a 2nd kinect for my white Xbox One. And thankfully when my launch Xbox One went down, MS sent me the cables required to hook it up to the XBox One S I replaced it with for free. Personally, I couldn't imagine using an Xbox One without Kinect. Skype and HMDI pass-through are indispensable in my book.
HDMI pass-through is a daily feature for me

I can't wait for the season to wrap up so I can shotgun all of AoT.

.

I wandered to a rarely visited by me side of town and visited the horribly overpriced game store and it turns out not everything is overpriced there. From what I can tell their OG Xbox games are fairly priced, plus they have a B2G1 sale going on (<$7.95). Does anyone have any recommendations of what I should get in preparation for the new BC launch or in general?

They also have B2G1 for their 4K Blu-ray movies and they are priced the same as their 1080p movies, so I might have to wander over here more often.

So not the exact same scenario, but I had NBA 2k17 from a free weekend and it worked for over a month after that weekend. Eventually I went to try it with a friend and they removed the license. Could be a similar scenario.

I've been having issues lately with my One S. Wondering if anyone is having a similar problem.

Use the One S throughout the day with the sound output through a receiver. At night, when everyone goes to bed, I turn off the receiver and use the wired headset through the S controller. Here lately, I get no sound output through the S controller headphone jack. Do a reboot and it starts working again. So it has basically become a daily reboot required to resolve this issue.

That I know of, there are no console updates or controller updates. In Ring 3.

This sound issue started for me as well. I've always had a loud pitched ringing when I first plug in a headset, but I can get it to stop. Last night I had to try multiple headsets and then the sound randomly started working...

Haven’t really thought much about the HDMI pass through and was wondering how much lag it has. HDMI ports are at a premium on my TV. Currently using an HDMI switch for a few things.

But it would be nice to be able to use my PSTV through my Xbox One S. If there’s lag though, I’m not going to dig behind my TV to bother. I do use the Remote Play on it for my PS4, which is in another room.

Is there lag that would probably not make it a good idea?

Why does it say play for free with Xbox live or buy to own? [emoji848]

For Shadow of Mordor?

I recommend against any gaming that requires reflexes or timing. I played some CoD MP on my :360: through the HDMI passthrough and it was disembowelingly bad.

I see "Install on Xbox One" which suggests I own it and also "Buy to own" which suggests I don't own it. WTF

the mordor GOTY edition is a separate achievement list from the vanilla version if that interests you
I believe it will be free to play through the weekend. And separate achievements from the base game? Interesting.
And also separate saves.

I've been trying to compile a list of likely Xbox OG BC games. If any one has feedback or thoughts on these or other games let me know. I've included my reasoning for why I think something is likely. As for recommendations on what to buy out of these, it really depends on what your taste is. I can only give feedback on maybe half of what I have listed.

Confirmed:

Crimson Skies, Fusion Frenzy

Likely:

Microsoft Published – No explanation needed.

Blinx 1 and 2, Brute Force, Forza 1, MechAssault 1 and 2, Project Gotham Racing 1 and 2

Sega Published – Sega has shown pretty healthy support for BC, and they had a great relationship with Microsoft during this generation.

Gunvalkyrie, Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shenmue II, ToeJam and Earl III

EA Published – Many Star Wars games were on the original Xbox, the only one I feel is a lock is KotOR1 because of Bioware, everything else was done by different studios for LucasArts, but since EA has exclusive Star Wars rights they may be able to approve them. EA is likely to be on board if these can be added to EA Access.

Burnout 3, Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Jade Empire, Star Wars Republic Commando, original Battlefront 1 and 2.

Bethesda – They’ve had pretty good support of BC, with both 360 Fallout games, Oblivion, all 3 Doom games, and Wolfenstein 3D.

Morrowind

Rockstar – 2K Games may deserve partial credit as Borderlands 1 and 2 are BC, but Rockstar themselves have GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, and Bully.

GTA III, GTA Vice City, Red Dead Revolver

Square Enix – As a publisher these are hard to say. During this era Squeenix proper didn’t have any involvement with the Xbox, but their western studios that were under the Eidos banner at this time had many games. The same franchises that have several BC 360 games. It’s hard to say if they have 100% say but I think it’s likely, though Hitman may not be the case due to IO Interactive’s recent departure.

Hitman series, Just Cause 1, Deus Ex: Invisible War, some Tomb Raider games, Thief 3

Popular but hard to say because of publisher – Tecmo hasn’t really supported BC yet. Ubisoft has been inconsistent. Psychonauts seems possible since 2 is coming to Xbox, if we don’t see a console release of the PC update, Double Fine has total say and decent 360 BC support.. I don’t know what’s going on with Oddworld’s rights. Metal Wolf Chaos is a Japan exclusive cult classic by From Software, that has a small but loud demand for a western release.

Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive series, Splinter Cell 1-3, Psychonauts, Oddworld, Metal Wolf Chaos

Possible but who knows because of remasters.

Halo, Halo 2, Rare’s games that are already in Rare Replay, Fable, GTA San Andreas, Phantom Dust, Voodoo Vince, Doom 3

Sounds like you are talking about the dub, but a free & legal app called VRV has the entire series subtitled with new episodes every saturday night.

I think my final haul for the UGS will be:

Ghost Recon: Wildlands (convert from physical after GS trade)
Far Cry 3
Arcade game series
Shadow of Mordor GOTY

I'm not going to do any more. I'm going to try and play some of these games before the November releases. Couldn't pass up Mordor for $4. I loved that game.

Is 31-33ms good input lag for a TV set? Thinking of getting the Sony 900XBR but not sure how noticeable that would be to someone like me who plays Gears 4 semi competitively.
Do you know the input lag settings on your current tv? 31-33ms sounds like it would be brutal if you were used to something lower.

For what it's worth, I play Gears 4 on a 1 ms benQ and a 14ms tv and it's a pretty significant difference between the two.

Don't be scared away from the GS trade deal before checking the values. None of the stuff I was going to trade dropped...just the two things I was thinking about buying and flipping. They had to nerf the newer stuff that's giving people huge profits on flips. If you're looking to get rid of old stuff, it's still a really good deal. They gave me $11 credit for Mortal Kombat Vita, for God's sake.

I have yet to play the game

Just a disappointed fan of the original I guess.
Disappointed in a game that you haven't played. Sigh. How about actually playing it and then joining the conversation?

It was already answered but just wanted to confirm, tried my Raspberry Pi through the pass through because of lack of ports and it was unplayable.

Shadow of Mordor isn't saying free to play/trial.

Might be a bonus GWG or someone fudged up.

Edit: Nope. It's a free trial.
