Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Anybody bought Xbox Ultimate physical edition from GameStop?

If so, did it have 2 codes in the box? Mine has one for Ultimate Edition, but not a second one for pre-ordering with the War Horse. The PS4 unboxing video I watched online has 2 codes.

I didn't get a code on my receipt, even though it says preorder, but I couldn't bother to hassle the GameStop clerk because I had to run.

Edit: I should add that i didn't open the steelbook wrapping yet because it's less likely I can return it if I do.

Edit: nevermind I got impatient and opened the steelbook. The war horse code is in there.

Decided to start Shadow of the Tomb Raider today, stopped while working my way through the first chapter. It's decent enough, just feels kind of easy and odd. Lara doesn't seem to have to grit that she did in the 2013 reboot and Rise. I also noticed that the game doesn't pull me in and keep me on the edge of my seat.

Not sure if I'm going to finish playing it, let alone keep it (picked up a physical copy). It's something I might revisit later once the price drops, something I suspect will happen sooner rather than later.

And now back to the regularly scheduled RDR2 and FH4 talk, lol.

I totally agree. I finished the game almost two weeks ago and just charged through it since I was dumb and bought it day one. The entire game felt like walking down a really long hallway. The only open areas were the villages. Had no trouble deleting it to make room for RDR2.

Thanks for playing! You had the vehicle of the night imo.

Game Night concluded with Jess Stryker edging out kcobra22 in an intense D-Class Drag Race to win the $10 Xbox Gift Card!
Thanks, the bus is a blast, I wished I could have stayed and did the drag race, oh well next time.

I'll be deleting it as well, got too many other games I can play. Hopefully I can check out the Fallout 76 when they start the sessions later. It's another game I'm not too sure about right now.

I guess we asked enough. Defintely was my number one guest want. She comes with a lot of extras for Nier fans too.

I agree. I traded in SothTR without even finishing the campaign and won't miss it at all. Unfortunately, despite my huge anticipation I'm feeling pretty similar about RDR2. I'm only about 9% completion so far, but I really have to question the Metacritic critical acclaim at 98%. The game is pretty, no doubt, but the chapter one tutorial campaign was very slow moving, and now that I am in free roam I am reminded why I've barely played GTA IV or GTA V, and didn't enjoy Bully: Rockstar games have highly scripted missions. You basically have to do exactly what they tell you do each step of the way, or you won't succeed. It's open-world right up until you start a mission, and then you have basically zero freedom.

There's also an absolute ton of horse-riding in this game. Fist-fighting has questionable mechanics, inventory management seems cluttered, and worst of all for a Western, the guns I have found so far are no fun to use. I really enjoyed the campaign for the original Red Dead Redemption, and got all the single-player achievements for the base game. This time though, I'm rapidly losing interest after only 2 days. I'd say if you're on the fence it may be worth waiting for a price drop and/or a patch or two, and to resist the hype around the game right now.

One last story: one of the minigames is dominos, where a winner is declared after 60 points. After at least 15-20 minutes of play, the score was something like 43 for me and 41 for the NPC, and I just said screw it, it's not worth half an hour of my life to play this one minigame through to one completion. There are so many of these time sinks in the game, that aren't necessarily challenging or fun, just time consuming.

So I've been going back and forth on whether or not to trade in my S to gamestop for the X and RDR2. Do the games look noticeably better on the X compared to the S or is it relatively minor? I have a 4K TV with HDR.

With a 4K HDR TV, absolutely a difference. In some games, it’s a huge difference. Seriously there are some games that are just stunning to look. Games also run better. Never have a single regret after upgrading to the X.

it varies but some games have better graphics and some games just look a lot cleaner because of the 4k. Here's two comparison pics from digital foundry if it helps you decide at all:

https://abload.de/img/compare168e1t.png

https://abload.de/img/compare26ufpk.png

if you're upgrading for RDR2, DF says it runs in native 4k and has the best framerate out of all the consoles.

Any idea on when the current 3 months for $10 Game Pass offer ends? I traded SotTR for XBL currency today and got a $15 card and a $12 digital code. The problem is that I wasn't paying attention and added the $12 to my main account instead of my alt account to pay for GP.

I got the email for the offer, but it doesn't show an expiration date.

Edit: NVM all that, I'll get it taken care of. Like I said it's my fault for not paying attention.

Anyone else having trouble claiming Hitman: Blood Money as a Gold game? I've been trying for several days. I've tried on my Xbox One, on the Xbox app for iOS, and through 2 different browsers on my laptop, and every time I get a "Your purchase cannot be completed at this time" message. I had no trouble claiming the XboxOne games with gold this month but I seem to run into glitches with 360 games pretty often. And, yes, I have a credit card linked to the account.

I had that same problem with Army of Two a few months back. Had gold, tried everything, no luck.

The game runs pretty poor on OG Xbox One hardware: Bad framrate, dithered shadows, resolution can't even make 1080p and is all the way down at 864p. Night and day between the S and the X

Tumultiwari posted in the free XBox Live thread that he's been having the same problem and has also tried everything. I would suggest calling MS support to see if they are aware of the issue.

Have you tried on an Xbox 360? If you don't have one, I'd be willing to loan you my services.

Started Victor Vran tonight, first hour I was about ready to give up. Then the combat clicked for me and I've been enjoying it. I love the shotgun's ability to pump out shots when you strong together kills. I like the hammer and am getting decent with the rapier. Being able to move the camera helps.

Its a great game, you will get hooked quick, in the summer when i had nothing to play before the Nov rush, I started it and played it straight for about 2-3 weeks, loved it. Like a Diablo clone but some cool twists.

I'm right there with you.

I'm just not enjoying this game at all. I'm about five hours in.

Its pace is slow and deliberate...for the sake of being slow and deliberate. I go and do a mission to the middle of nowhere and then I have to spend five minutes riding somewhere just to get back into town...after brushing my horse because he had a stamina debuff due to dirt, oh and I needed to eat, and hmm...I should probably put the shotgun back and roll with the pistol to conserve ammo. And hey, Arthur, please contribute some money to the camp...and how about you go hunt so we can have some meat for the soup tonight...and WHERE IS MY RED DEAD !!??!! (In RDR1, the full gun inventory went with the player and fast-traveling was done via camp. And there was no busy-work nonsense.)

I think I'm going back to Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. Its basically the exact opposite kind of game: frantic, impatient, ...probably full of padding.... but there is just so much exciting entertainment stuff that wants my time right now: World Series, football, Halloween fun, television, and so many video games.

For me personally, RDR2 may be a more enjoyable lazy summer kind of game.

Seems like R* decided to make RDR2 full simulator in a contrast to GTA5 full arcade style gameplay. Both gta4 and RDR were semi realistic games in their own terms but now it looks like they decided to separate both franchises in gameplay to distinguish themselves from each other more.

I personally don't like the slow pace either, but I agree it's on purpose. Just thinking about western movies, there are always tons of slow periods of riding, scenery, and general nothingness.

I wish I would've recorded my RDR2 gameplay from the very beginning. I'm willing to guess that 85% of my time is spent just riding from destination to destination, while 15% of my time is actually spent doing a mission or activity.

In terms of the busy-work, that's one thing that makes me wary about Fallout 76. Just from the times I've played the beta so far, having to eat and drink to reduce my hunger and thirst is annoying.

All that said, I do love the world building in RDR2 and Rockstar games in general.

Hope people do realize that a LOT of the activities being described in RDR are really optional. Pretty easy to play missions and avoid most of the “sim” side of the game, save something like how you get your weapons off the horse. You can buy food straight out. Don’t need to play dominoes and stuff.

Missions for the most part I have found pretty fun and some downright intense. The game is only as boring as you want it to be. :)

Food and stamina are WAY worse to deal with in the FO games and classic RPGs. And I found ammo to be less of a pain than other shooters as well such as Far Cry 5 for instance.

RDR 2 is more realistic than the original, for sure. But it is still not what I would call a survival game.

Have you tried on an Xbox 360? If you don't have one, I'd be willing to loan you my services.
I thought about that, and may dust off the 360 to give it a try. I'll contact MS customer service first. I still haven't gotten resolution of the Rewards points issue I raised with them 3 days ago (can't complete Moon Gate b/c it won't count my Live logins).

Question for those who bought $5 credit during the hot deals: Is their a limit to how many you can buy or is it one per account?

Bought Bloodstained, Soma, and Flipping Death in the end.

Decided against Graveyard Keeper.  Too many reviews describe it as too grindy.  More like "work" than a game.  I try not to take reviews as gospel, but when nearly everyone has the same complaints, I tend the criticism seriously.

Likewise, decided against Observer at the last minute.

I'm pretty upset about Soma though.  The game itself seems great - only played about an hour so far.  But I had a major reveal/twist spoiled for me last night on the internet.

I was curious about the game's sales figures only.  No spoilers.  Googling that, though, brought me to the developers' blog.  Seemed harmless enough.  But right there on the front page of their official blog is fanart and jokes and re-tweets of the big reveal.  Why would the developers' blog have so many spoilers for their own game right on the front page??

The internet has no mercy when it comes to spoilers :(

Eh, it's been 3 years since first release and nearly a year on X1.

Tried out the fallout beta. Really hope they follow through with progress transferring to the full game. I'd rather not play through the first few hours of the game for a third time. Only getting it day one if my friend also does, so it could be a while before I play it.

Picked up Soma, crypt of the necrodancer and Transference on sale. Hope I don't regret getting transference since it was less than 50% off.

Just curious: anyone other folks with Xbone X having issues with their system getting loud as hell while playing RDR2? I’ve had some fan noise from other games but nothing even close to the jet engine my console becomes when playing this.

I haven't but I've been seeing some reports of it with base PS4 and Xbox One.

The horse back riding sometimes can be tedious but some of the missions are just fun, going to the bar with Lenny was really something and was cracking up all the way. Getting there little by little is a slow burn for sure but really enjoying it.

Someone else mentioned it earlier but no loud noise here at all. Like I also said earlier my PS4 sounds like that all the time, which is another reason I hardly play it. But X1X is pretty damn quiet.

I'm having trouble with the Bad Lands "increase gamerscore by 250 points" challenge for my main account. I played bit of SotTR and VF2 on my Xbox One. My GS increased by more than 250 but it hasn't given me credit for it by checking off on the punch card. It checked it off automatically for my alt account somehow. Did/is anyone else have this problem with it?

It's also two days behind for the logins for main account (9/20) compared to my alt account (11/20). I seriously cannot wait this quest to be over and claim the final rewards.

Had issues with that and the scavenger hunt. Sent MS Rewards an email with pictures of each page and was fixed for me within two days. Of course, log ins then became an issue so I updated my original ticket and that was fixed two days later. All 3 were completed yesterday.

Looks like I have to grab some screenshots or pics and email MS support to get it fixed. I noticed that the wording was updated from "tracking may be delayed by up to 48 hours" with Wild Kingdom and Moon Gate to "tracking may be delayed by several days" with Bad Lands.

I hadn't noticed that. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that any tracking is delayed by any amount of time. Does it take that long for one server to communicate to another? Is there a human component that slows everything down by days because they goof off instead of doing their job on time? Is it traveling all the way around the world on a 14.4 kbps dial-up connection? I DON'T UNDERSTAND!

How long has it been since you got the 250 gamerscore cause on the ms rewards reddit I’ve seen people say it took them 5-7 days to get it to check off and sometimes even longer.

Decided to play Mark of the Ninja Remastered today instead of all the many, many, MANY games I have not started yet. Dropping the corpses on my enemies so they can panic and accidentally kill their own allies still holds up. Who knew??

I don't know if anyone has been following Smash Bros, but over the last few days there has been a leak of what seems to be the final roster, that has become more legit over time. If it is real, there is a Microsoft connection, the one you would expect.

Details in the spoiler:

The various Smash communities have done a LOT of detective work here. The below info matches up with a text post roster from a few days before all this happened.

The seven characters confirmed with the leak:

-Shadow the Hedgehog

-Ken Masters (also had a screenshot leak that was very convincing)
-Geno (Super Mario RPG)

-Isaac (Golden Sun)
-Chourus Kids (Rythmn Heaven)
-Mach Rider (NES representative)

-Banjo and Kazooie

It's also believed that the 5 characters from games that aren't already represented will each have a stage, because a Japanese magazine said 108 stages then changed to 103 in a later issue.

As for Banjo, we know Spencer just made another trip to Japan, and right after the BK trademark was renewed. It could be a coincidence but it could be a final sign-off on the character. XO2018 is coming up and it would be pretty earth-shattering if they had Nintendo show up with a Banjo trailer at it.

There are a lot of steps that have lead to the strong belief that it's real:

-First, someone posted a very blurry image of a banner on SnapChat, which is the large painted art Nintendo keeps adding characters to.
-Aforementioned leaker is a 200 IQ genius, doesn't cover his name enough so people figure out who he is.
-His LinkedIn profiles are found, connects him to a French printing company that has worked with Bandai Namco in the past

-Company puts out a damage control statement saying he hasn't worked there in a few years, and they aren't currently working with Bamco.

-A second printing company, ACP-PLV, which it's believed he actually works at now is discovered.
-Digging around, people find a video that shows this company's work process, which just so happens to show template that matches the images in the Smash leak.

-Earlier today, this 2 year old video was taken down.
