Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Do any of you guys listen to Podcast Unlocked? They were talking about reddit rumors of some 2018 games from a guy who I guess had access to some dev database. From my understanding he just saw files in a database so they could just be dead projects or they could be real things.

New Fable from a U.K. Studio
Perfect Dark from a studio with The Coalition assisting them.
Forza Horizon 4 set in Japan
A new Mech game.

It all seems highly likely, they need games this year so I hope we get all of this plus more. Give people a reason to buy the Xbox One X that don't have it yet.

I bet most of those are 2019 games though.
Yeah I used to but I can't stand the hosts any more.

As for the Playground guys working on a Fable, I'm curiously interested (big Fable fan here).

the podcast before unlocked, 3 red lights was amazing, could never get into unlocked though
Yeah it's odd I don't like Unlocked that much but it's in my rotation. I usually disagree with the main host Ryan about 90% of the time. Oddly his other podcast IGN Unfiltered is usually pretty amazing but it's just an interview show with really historically interesting people in the videogame biz.

A new Perfect Dark is looooooooooooooong over due, can't wait for that come out. I'm still a huge fan of the original n64 version but Zero just doesn't age as gracefully everytime I play it.

My interest on those games depends on what games will be given for free during their Mixer announcement. BRIBE ME FOR MY ATTENTION, MICROSOFT. BRIBE ME.

Fable has been mentioned by multiple "sources" and seeing as how only Master Chief Collection re-launch has been pegged at the first half of this year with nothing else outside of Crackdown 3 that has been in hiding, I'm gonna go with real.

Forza Horizon 4 is also most likely going to happen, but the question is when? The game is constantly in the top 20-30 sellers in Europe every month and I'd imagine It's doing well in the US. Outside of all the Halo 5 and Gears 4 loot boxes MS needs another cash cow and Forza Horizon has fit the bill well.

Perfect Dark Battle Grounds would be right up my alley. As would a MechAssault Battle Grounds.

Alright, it’s the 15th on the East Coast, where the fuck is my FH3 update?!?
Knowing MS probably 12-2pm eastern.

There's a trick to getting some telltale games to play without a disc after episode one, right? I have Batman and can't get it to work and thought it was one of the games. Does anyone know how to do it? Google only brings up a fix to a problem with the xbox not registering the season pass for disc copies.

IIRC, you had to get a digital copy of Episode 1 and then you could install the rest of the episodes from the disc but didn't need the disc to play it. It could also have been patched.

Was there a code for this? I just redeemed it via the Ubisoft Club. I kind of wish I found the code instead of spending the points lol. Also Origins is great.
I always forget about these points, I have almost 1300 in points. All I can see to buy with them is add ons (mostly cosmetic at that) for games. What should/could I be getting with my points? I ran through and grabbed most of the free stuff I saw already and am only a few hours into Origins (on PS4) so didn't grab this small DLC yet.

Depends on what games you have, I unlocked everything that had points in Wildlands. As far as Origins, I did the DLC mission and the Black Flag costume. I would hold off on the weapons unless you want to add them. I know you can get them to help go toward having a Legendary in each slot achievement. I don't have much points so I can't get all the weapons just yet. As soon as I do I might. Don't forget to beat Anubis if you can cause you get the community challege weapon as well. I beat him at Lv 37. You can usually beat anything 4 levels above you. Anything higher will have a red skull and will kill you lol.

More thoughts on ReCore. There is a boss fight in Eden Tower and oh my gosh is it tedious. I need to upgrade my corebots, but still. Some variety in enemy attacks would have gone a long way, but every fight it seems like there are red fire circles which temporarily stop you from moving, which set you up to get hit again by the next fire ring OR by other enemies, while taking burn damage over time. I've gone from kicking total ass to dying in ~15 seconds because of this nonsense.

I decided to go explore dungeons, level up, collect materials, etc. but the difficulty spike leaves a bad taste, since it has nothing to do with player skill.

No kidding, I believe that's where I put the game down. That exact boss fight. I got absolutely destroyed at that part about 10 times in a row with little to no progression each time and that was enough for me.

Just finished NBA playground thanks to game pass which imo everyone should get.The game plays very similar to NBA jam and you unlock more players by opening up card packs when you reach the next level by gaining xp from winning games.Took me 6 hrs to 1000gs and does require skill and some luck to finish it.
So the challenges are now remotely possible or still just down to random luck?

If anyone cares, I pulled the trigger on the Sony 900E. Best Buy dropped the price on it even more, yesterday. Barely got it set up, the step up from 720p to 1080p is amazing at that size. I still need to setup my HDR receiver to test out HDR gaming, bit aside from AC: Origins and Forza 7, what games will really show off HDR gaming? What movies really show off HDR 4K? I already have Planet Earth II ready to go.

I really noticed the difference in Rise of the Tomb Raider -it has some video settings that let you adjust fps and resolution. Unfortunately the adjustments are a bit of a trade off: higher fps/lower video quality or higher video quality/lower fps or a balanced mode. CoD WWII looked pretty good.

Also, a lot of people commented on Witcher III. I have a copy bit haven't stayed mine up. And some people mentioned Gears of War 4 was noticeable.

I'm waiting to see the FH3 update. It already looks good, can't imagine the difference.

I'm having fun exploring and doing optional stuff, but if you're just trying to complete the main story, I can't imagine anyone being strong enough for this fight. What's crazy is I had already done more exploring and upgrading than most casual players probably do, and I still got my butt kicked.

I still want to see it through, I just wish Microsoft hadn't treated it like a budget title - it could have been an easy top 5 exclusive / reason to get an X1, instead of what it is.

@Gurran Lagan

Can you tell me if they updated rosters for NBA playgrounds since release? For instance, is Jimmy Butler available on the twolves? Considering it for switch if the rosters are updated but now there's also the rumored NBA Jam coming too...

The challenges are easier to obtain now but the hardest one to get was get 6 steals in a game which was previously 15 then 10.As for the roster I'm not sure since I unlocked Jimmy butler when he was with the bulls .

Fallout Shelter needs a performance update really badly, as the quest areas have the worst screen tearing I've ever seen in a game and I usually don't notice that sort of thing if it's not bad.

Forza Horizon 3 update for X is out! If you don’t see it, try rebooting your console.

Surprisingly only 671.6 MB.

I don't see how it can be that small. Maybe someone else can better explain it. Were all of those 4K assets already there and this just implements them?

I really enjoyed ReCore, its not a perfect game by any means but I enjoyed the grinding and the mixing of the bots/cores/armors, it is true the spike in difficulty is very high and you will start noticing as you keep going and start getting achievements that most if not all of them fall in the "Rare Achievement" category with less than 10% rate, so the casual gamer did not get this far. Try collecting as many prismatic cores as you can find on your map because for the last part of it you will need a high amount of them that you wont have if you are just going straight main mission. Also make sure you upgrade your bots and their abilities via the workbench in your ship and swap bots as needed depending the dungeon and fights you are having, Good luck!

I noticed that (the rare achievements for seemingly standard things).

I just went back after leveling up my bots and beat the fight quickly and easily. The main issue I think is that they introduce those mechanics for upgrades and then provide little direction or incentive to go back to it on your own. Casual players who want to do the story probably never mess with it, and/or never explore enough to find good blueprints worth researching.

I picked up Van Hellsing II for $2.50 after applying credit. I can manage that and have it floating around in my backlog.

Yeah 2018, I'm done with Fallout Shelter. Trying to limit my F2P game/already bought game ratio.

Still haven't walked away from Gems of War but there's still dailies to work on and collect.

Grabbed a few more achievements on PFX3 tables and I'm still really enjoying matchup/ tournament play with 3.

I don't see how it can be that small. Maybe someone else can better explain it. Were all of those 4K assets already there and this just implements them?
Seems to be it. The splash screen now says “Xbox One X Enhanced “ and looks phenomenal. Actually will probably look even better for me tonight when the room is completely dark.

Back to racing!

I finally beat the main story today and I was level 34. I also grabbed 28 health boosters so my health pool was large. I was most likely over-leveled and never in real danger but it still took me about 20-30 minutes to beat the last boss and that is without ever dying.

If ReCore gets a sequel and they make the right changes it could be a really solid exclusive.

Yeah, it is not a game for just go casual through the main story, even well upgraded and ready for action you will find some of the latter rooms are very unforgiving, so be prepared. It makes me a little sad that we will most likely never see a sequel for this game, it falls in the last year's half baked list of Xbox half-baked hyped games, same as Quantum Break which leaves the door open for a sequel that will not happen. I guess I just enjoy the games with no future since no one seemed to like them enough

Fallout Shelter needs a performance update really badly, as the quest areas have the worst screen tearing I've ever seen in a game and I usually don't notice that sort of thing if it's not bad.
Is this on a XB1X? I'm on an original Xbone and my problems were in my base. Mostly slow down and frame rate issues. An OS update recently fixed it for me. Maybe the Fall or Winter one. I've never had screen tearing in quest areas. Haven't done much questing recently though. Did the Halloween/Thanksgiving ones, but didn't get around to the Christmas/New Year's ones.

Been reading up on the new Hyundai Veloster N (2.0 liter, in-line 4 275hp performance based beast), their competitive push to counter the Golf R & Civic Type R. Just had an ad on my dashboard for one in Forza Motorsport 7 and I checked it out.

FYI turns out the new 2019 Hyundai Veloster N & "reborn" Turbo will be a limited time free car back in FM7 the 16th, tomorrow! I can't wait to check out the car digitally as I own the non-born? Turbo version.

Odd how MS went from spending a billion dollars on the RROD to keep the 360 viable as a platform, but would hire tried-and-true devs from Metroid Prime and fucking Keiji Inafune, put them on a tight budget, and push ReCore out before it was polished. The Alan Wake/QB folks should be pumping out something every two years, IMHO. The original Uncharted was rough around the edges and clearly a launch title, but Naughty Dog was able to produce two sequels that were some of the best of the genre in the same console life cycle and still have time leftover to make The Last of Us.

Also, it's disappointing the relationship with Comcept hasn't gone any further, whether another new game or even Azure Striker Gunvolt. It's on Steam, so it'd be an easy port.

Should I buy Van Helsing II before it's off sale or hope for another sale on the version with all DLC? That version hasn't been on sale in over a year.

Planet Earth II was one of the first things we watch after setting up our MU8000 and it is beautiful in 4k. I was torn between getting a Sony or a Samsung, you made a good choice in TV. The only thing I have in UHD right now is Man of Steel but looking to change that when Thor Ragnarok comes out digitally.

I need me some Sea of Thieves BETA action.   Wish it was an open beta so I could use that to decide if I wanted to but it or not.  Oh well.

Yeah I'm not sure on the entire strategy of the Sea of Thieves team with all the closed beta stuff. I'm sure it's easy enough to sign up but my interest level isn't even that high. This new one is supposed to be what the actual game is like but it seems like they keep selling to the same crowd already interested in the product. A couple months till launch still so I'm sure there will be a public something or other.

It's been like that since they introduced the quests on Xbox One with my launch-era XB1, so the extra power hasn't changed anything for me. I do get some small hitches in the main vault, as I lose control for a second before it catches up every once in a while, but it's not as bad as the quest areas. I should probably do a capture to see if the Xbox video has it in there so that it's easier to see what I'm seeing.

Yup. I feel the same way. I have no idea what kind of game this is and they have no interest in showing me.

It's not that odd that it happened. Cultural differences were the heart of the issue.

There's a big difference in 4k digital content vs a disc. It's nicer than 1080p content, but definitely noticeable.

Sea of Thieves open beta is supposed to be soon I thought. I'm technically in the closed one but have never been able to actually play it.

I wish I was excited about Sea of Thieves. I want to be but for some reason it's just not doing it for me. I think it might be the visuals. Skull and Bones looks more my style.

FH3 in 4K looks amazing but it’s not as immediately noticeable as other games post-upgrade (Halo 5, Gears 4, Witcher 3). Of course, it looked fantastic before and already had HDR, which I still think makes an even bigger difference than the resolution. Definitely notice some jaggies gone that were there last night when I played and see some nice added effects here and there.

Still say AC Origins is the best looking X game, but also played it on X to begin with so no “upgrade” comparison.

I wish they'd have an optional 60fps version of FH3. I think the game looks stunning even in HD, so a 60fps addition would add a lot more I think than 4k.

RIP Dolores O'Riordan. Linger is one of my favorite songs.

Just updated FH3. Gonna test it out. Can't wait.

I think you are also forgetting how long Alan Wake was in development - first appearance was shown off at E3 2005 behind closed doors to the press/ some-what finalized gameplay footage demoed at E3 2009, officially launched 2010 but initial concept and pre-development planning happened shortly after when Remedy released Max Payne 2 in 2003 & rested a bit after the crunch from doing so. The Last of Us was also worked on by a secondary team within Naughty Dog, initially a studio known for working exclusively on one title at a time.

I agree though, it's nice that they put some effort into trying to fix the game that goes along with the free X enhanced version and would be a good candidate for a sequel/ start of a possible franchise for Microsoft. Like that Assassin Creed 1 stutter start that Ubisoft more than corrected.

Yeah I was wondering that but the Ink Hunt looked to be the main thing along with a bunch of item/pets add-ons which with the price difference didn't really sway or sell me on that version.

There will be another closed beta during 24th-29th and this one isn't NDA limited so expect some good footage to be shared.

I think if they had more people working on the game but it's a relatively smaller size of developers at Rare working on it. I say relatively smaller as these days some titles will have three big studios working on the same game.
