Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I just recently started actively trying to get rewards points. I tried multiple times through January to get this to work. I downloaded the iOS Edge app, signed in with my account and started doing bing searches. I even made it a point to use the Edge app when I needed to randomly search something. When I would check my rewards page, no points for bing searches. Repeat every few days, same thing. Then I noticed that the Edge app signed me out for some reason. Sign in again and do more searches. Check rewards page...no points. Rinse and repeat. Eventually they updated the rewards page and it prompted me to “turn on bing search rewards to earn more points” Somehow points for bing searches were disabled on my account the whole time! So I go back to the Edge app, it has signed me out for no reason for the hundredth time. Sign in and do some searches. Surely it will work this time right? Check my rewards page, and I have 25 out of 50 daily search points. Do some more searches...still 25 out of 50. Repeat. Try again the next day...no search points. I finally give up.

I am so frustrated with Microsoft right now. Why does the Edge app sign me out EVERY DAY? Sometimes multiple times a day. Did anyone else here have any problems like this?
I'm on Android and had some similar problems. Currently I'm not sure it matters as some of the bonuses have ended, but when there is a bonus for using the Edge app I had to do 2 things to ensure I got credit.

1) make sure I was signed in to the Edge app with whatever ms account I was acquiring points under.

Sounds like you're good there.

2) before doing my 1st search i had to go to bing.com (you should see the pretty background picture of the day with the giant search bar in the foreground). Tap the menu icon (looks like 3 horizontal stripes usually in the upper right corner) and make sure you're logged into bing. Then do your searches starting from that front page.

Once you get that working there are a few easy ways to earn points.

1) use the trending topics / news stories called "Trending on Bing". You find them on the front page below the search bar. Click there first. When a bing search page is returned you'll see these listed under the search field but above the search results in the app. This list scrolls left to right. Click on as many of those as you need. Each one counts as 1 search.

2) use the search bar and enter one random word. Dog, cat, banana, etc. It should fill with related searches: dog collar, dog park, etc. Choose 1 auto fill options. When this completes. Click in the search bar delete a word or add 1 space and it will give several more auto generated options. Repeat as needed.

3) just make random key stokes while in the search bar and hit enter. Bing will search for anything. Slightly better option is to just start with 2 letters that a lot of words start with like "ch" and let bing try to guess what you are typing.

If it takes you longer than 5 - 10 minutes every day, you're doing it wrong.

Hope that helps.

If anyone happens to have codes for Gears 1 or 3 lying around still, my group is trying to get one of our new friends into those after we carry him through the Master Chief collection (minus 4 because no), and we’ve either given away our old codes or lost the messages already. Any help is appreciated, please DM me. Thanks!

TL,DR January stuff.

Wrapped up 1 game during the month of January - Lego Jurassic World.  Was my MVP during TA's 12 days of Christmas in December, and was able to finish the achievements.  Thought about grinding a bit to climb the stud leaderboards and saw the top on TA has over 2.2 trillion studs.  I have to wonder if that was someone consciously grinding, or if someone has a kid that likes dinosaurs and just likes to run around in the game.

I started Super Lucky's Tale for the XBL Rewards Doctor promo from last month.  I bought 2 avatar items for $1 each ($1, not 99 cents) on Saturday and started the game after that.  The achievements reward posted yesterday, but disappeared today (no deposit) and no sign of the avatar and full completion ones.  Will give them a few more days before posting on the Rewards forums.  SLT is alright, though the controls are a little loose.  Too often I'd die by trying to turn around on a small platform and not only turn but step off into an abyss.  Particularly in the first 2D level with platforms rotating on a circle in the background, sometimes getting obscured by a waterfall in the foreground.

Also started What Remains of Edith Finch Tuesday night to survive the GTASC week.  Pretty sure I remember watching one of my buddies demoing it at Pax East last year.  I finished the main story, but missed some of the achievements.  It was an interesting story, seemed to have good production values, though $20 non-sale is a pretty high asking price, IMO, for 2-3 hours of gaming content.  Popped two of the achievements I missed last night, two to go.

Finally got the Midnight Omen Embar in the only Horde match I was able to complete last night.  First match, 4 immediately quit.  Second match, all 5 players stuck around until level 10.  A couple people left after they died, though we were still able to finish the wave.  Another person left, and while I stuck around for a few more waves, it was getting tougher and I didn't want to spend the time trying to grind through that so I left, too.  Another couple matches where people quit out, then was finally able to complete it on Hotel.  Only 3 stuck around to the end, and thankfully the helicopter boss we got on the final wave couldn't get inside the hotel, unlike the Brumak on wave 20.

Also picked up an Elite controller.  Have had issues with right on my D-pad on my original controller for a while, which could be a pain trying to switch to Lancer in Gears, but then my right thumb stick developed an upward drift.  Had that issue before and was able to get it working by lifting the stick and pressing it down a few times, but no go this time.  Between an Xmas gift card at BB, their birthday month discount and a refund on my car insurance policy due to the new car, I had the price of an Elite controller covered.  Took a little getting used to the extra weight in the controller.  I removed the paddles for now, getting a feel for them will take more time.  I just moved the basic headset from my old controller to the new one, and the Elite's case doesn't really accommodate that.  Not sure if I want to go for a headset at this time.

I have a daily achievement streak that survived the month, started back on Dec 29.  Weekdays are tough with my work schedule.  Was able to squeak through some days with the Japanese version of Windows Sudoku, but I'm out of the easy ones there.  At 35 days, it's my longest streak on TA, though it's a fuzzy record.  When I was laid off a few years back, I had topped 50 days, but I must've gotten something just between midnight and 3am one day, because when I fixed my time zone settings from Pacific to Eastern, it split the streak into 29 and 25 days.

I topped 100k TA with SLT a few days ago.  Also 40 GS away from 60k.  A 100 pointer from Edith Finch will put me over, but would need to do search for some if I want to hit it exactly.

Really looking forward to this :

Well, I fuck-ed up hitting 60k GS exactly.  I started up Underwurlde in Rare Replay for 15, which also popped the Sabrewulf sampler one for another 30, putting me at 60,005.

Gears skins for earlier events should start rolling out on Tuesday next week, including the Jingle Juvie Midnight Omen skins.

Thrashball Cole skin will be in this weekend's Gears pack, along with the Blitz game type from Gears UE.

I feel your pain. I messed up on getting 300k exactly and it bummed me out for a bit. Then I ordered a pizza and all was well again......I'm hyped for Thrashball Cole. I got 42k credit so I'm getting me that skin!!!

Had a free red box rental in my inbox. Decided to try Monster Hunter World as I've never played one before......*sigh* Not for me. I'll go back to Warframe as MHW just ain't my cup of tea

Warframe is awesome, not newbie friendly because it's a bit obtuse in how to start. If you don't like the frame you picked up, try and trade for another one in chat, drop a few bucks, or farm the parts and craft it. You can make quite a few with parts and buy the blueprint for credits which you acquire freely. I've spent a bit under $100 on it because it's a lot of fun (a Prime pack and a bit of platinum on sale).

Also excited for the Andre doc and excited there will be a potential masterpiece at Wrestlemania this year (AJ vs Shinsuke).

Microsoft Rewards (formerly Bing Rewards) has finally brought back the $5 denomination of Xbox Live codes to its reward offers. I cashed out one this morning to use on Rory McElroy's Putting Challenge before it goes off sale.

Excited for Blitz mode coming to GOW 4! I cut my teeth getting better at Gears MP in that mode a couple years ago. It's much harder defending a hill that you have to stay in to earn points, and much more fun.

Looks like FC3 is getting a port to next gen. Don't think it's a remaster based on the trailer, just the same game running on nicer hardware and benefiting from a resolution increase.

A port, you here me? Don't you dare call it a remake!

I Should really (REALLY) start some new games, but any excuse to revisit Far Cry 3 sounds too enticing. Watch out! Here comes mighty whitey!

I'd enjoy revisiting it as well, although I'm once again dumbfounded by the forum chatter about how much people apparently loved the story. I've said it before, but - I've never enjoyed playing a game so much with such hateable characters and plot. I put off the story missions for as long as possible, hoping I could let the frat/sorority crew fend for themselves.

Just waiting to have a happy xbox filled weekend. Eating, sleeping, going to the bathroom, theses are all things in the way of xbox time.

Happy gaming everybody.

If you uninstall a digital game you bought, you can always reinstall later if you want to back to it because you own a license for that game, correct? Same with GWG game as long as you maintain your GWG membership, right? Essentially I only have to have games I'm currently playing installed and not all games I own installed.

...There's a story?

Even Vaas whom everyone hyped as "BEST VILLAIN EVAAAR" was barely in the game and he wasn't even the main villain. Hell, I don't even remember the main villain! I Do remember how Vaas "was taken out" and thought people were dumb for loving that character so much. Like I'm sure replaying the game, all I'll think of "goddamn, if these dumb dildoes never got in this predicament they'd probably be trying to get famous on YouTube," Even than, nothing like seeing a patrol of guards and slitting the neck of one and throwing a knife at the other two all quiet like.

Correct. That's how I manage my games and HD space. I only keep games I play installed. Once I'm done with a game, I uninstall it. (1 TB, have 20-35% free space most of the time.) Don't see a need for any external HD.

You bastard. Was gonna watch the Rumble today...

Split/Second is showing up as free on the website, but when I try to redeem it, it still wants to charge me $19.99

...There's a story?

I think that's exactly it - they all act like Youtube celebrities, and I hate it. Vaas was just a crazy dudebro who gave you a reason to shoot things. Then there's the very weird hyper-sexual African mysticism which just feels stereotypical and gross.

Like I said, never enjoyed a game so much while also completely hating its story/characters/etc.

Shit, sorry. Watch Takeover for Black/Cole and the 5-star rated Almas/Gargano and it'll make up for it? And at least there's the women's Rumble.

Free DLC for

Spec Ops: The Line --> Co-Op Challenge Mode

Split/Second --> "The Elite" Vehicle Livery Pack

Split/Second --> Ryback Cyclone Special Edition
Is it for The Elite, The The Elite? Can we break it down?

Man, when you go all wrestling on me, I go blank. I'll just say... Yes? :)

Hopefully more games will trickle in over the day...

Interesting that StoreParser doesn't reflect the price drop for Split/Second.
I imagine they just do periodic checking of the marketplace. MS would probably block requests from their IP if they were constantly crawling their site. We'll probably see it show up by 9pm Eastern (with a run most likely scheduled for a bit after midnight UTC / 7pm Eastern, similar to date night).

My hope for the problems with the 360 marketplace this week is they've been trying to fix the "purchase 360 content with credit on the web site" issue that's persisted since the switch from points.

Wow I stand corrected. They went 80% off The Darkness 2 and Specs Ops.

*bows head in deep shame*

Edit: Were the games originally $30? $6 still seems high for my cheap ass.
I was just about to post the same thing. 80% sounded great until I saw that MSRP. Might still bite on at least one but that seems very inflated.

My thoughts exactly. 80% sounds great til you see that MSRP it's being discounted from. If they were the usual $3.75 I'd probably get them both.

If it makes you feel better, Peanut Butter WinterButt is $1.99.

edit: colbert read my mind and wrote almost verbatim while I was still typing it.

Peanut Butter Winter Butt? Is that the latest remedy for dry winter skin on the hiney?

Peanut Butter Winter Butt will be my answer to every question for the rest of the day.

- Did you finish those TPS retorts?
- Peanut Butter Winter Butt

- How are you?
- Peanut Butter Winter Butt

- What do you want to eat?
- Peanut Butter Winter Butt

Not all of us are lucky enough to not have dicks for ISP's that limit bandwidth. It was cheaper for me to get an External 8Tb drive for my games I own, and a 4Tb drive for all the games I have installed but don't own the license than to go over my bandwidth every month.

So it was possible before the switch? Wasn't that several years ago? I haven't had a 360 with internet since about 2010 so I haven't kept up with anything Live related until a few months before the X's release.
