Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Agreed, though when things have slowed considerably and there's significant games still waiting for support it would be nice if it felt like their priorities were in the right place.
I feel like it's more a limitation of what they can actually get rights to at this point. We're 450+ games deep now, and the most wanted games that haven't come are generally from the big publishers, that may think that BC would hurt them if they ever go the Remaster route still. Combine that with external factors like rights changes or licensed music and I think that's how we're here now. Then we also have to remember that they want a certain level of quality on the emulation now, and that they individually tweak the emulator for each game.

Like Spec Ops: The Line just hit. It was a cult classic so that might have put it a bit lower on the list, but I'd guess the many licensed songs were the real hurdle there.

Anyways, with the upcoming BC news, I'd recommend looking at the PS2 on PS4 program for possible clues, as all third-party games in the initial Xbox batch were part of the program. Outside of that it's probably safe to bet on EA so they can put more on EA Access, and Bethesda due to their heavy support so far. I just hope we don't have too many wasted slots on games like Grabbed by the Ghoulies that is already available in Rare Replay. I don't have an issue with 360 games double dipping, but with like 10 games every 6 months they shouldn't be included. Halo and Halo 2 are the only ones I'd be alright with, and I'd really hope Halo 2 was totally updated and included all the DLC maps.

Why do they waste time with things like AC Black Flag? I’m sure anyone who wanted to play it would already have the X1 version.

Also, Divinity II is on sale for $7.49 currently. Is it any good?
I believe that sale ended overnight, unfortunately.

Think I'll be extra CAG than I usually am and pass on the three spring sale games I'm interested in, even with some credit. The backlog is becoming too much and I have plenty of similar style games I could play while I wait for a potentially larger discount or GwG.

Nice to see another game I own go BC. Unfortunately I've already 100%ed it.

exhausted all the cars 2 achievements I can do with one controller, fun little game though the missions do get tedious by the end
I was really starting to get impressed by this game and thought that it would make for a great atlernative to Blur as an arcade racer with powerups but then realized that the online servers were shutdown years ago and don't work any more. Bummer! :/ All of the achievements are attainable but you will need a second controller.

Be sure and play the updated version that comes with the expansion (it performs better than the original release. It's a great game.

I have not purchased black flag yet, so it’s nice to have an option. Is it a game that I should just play the X1 version?

For AC 2 I looked at the exit collection and it didn’t seem that great as x1 version so I went w the cheap x360 version
Yes.

It's my understanding that some games work due to tech being right and it's just a question of getting sign off from the publisher. It's why there were unexpected games on 360 to original BC. If they don't have to tinker with much, they'll put it out because more is still value for someone.

I anxiously await impressions of Tera - especially as to how well it plays Solo.

As someone that has finally tried an MMO - in my case, the enjoyable Elder Scrolls Online - I have wondered what other games in the genre I should dip my toe into next.
I have no idea how it is on console, but years ago my girlfriend and I put a decent number of hours into it on PC. It plays differently than any other MMO I ever played, ESO included. My memory is really bad, but from what I remember targeting was done manually with the mouse whereas every other MMO I recall playing used buttons to auto target enemies. Not saying it is a detraction, just something to be aware.

I had no idea there was Dethklok songs on rocksmith. I have really got to find a cable for cheap. I've been looking since I got a guitar for my birthday but I just cant bring myself to pay 40 bucks or more for just a cable.
This is actually the second Dethklok pack. There was another 3 pack last year.

I played some of The Witness tonight. It is fun at times but there are some puzzles that when I even looked at a guide for the answer I was still not certain what I was looking for. Some of the time when you use the environment to line up things require such precision I have no idea how people figured it out.  Either way I will finish it up with a guide if I have to but I am trying hard to do everything on my own. You know some of the puzzles are obtuse when the guide says we are not sure why this is the answer but here is the answer.

My prediction for Xbox Backwards Compatibility update in the new Xbox Video:

Original Xbox Games are all going to Xbox Game Pass, they announce 5 more BC titles for Original Xbox and all of those plus the ones already out are all going to Game Pass.

My theory on them getting rid of Xbox Live Rewards is also to help Game Pass. If they give us less rewards and digital currency easily, it makes Game Pass an even better value. That is probably why they phoned in this Spring Sale too. If they make older games really cheap, the value of Game Pass goes down since more people will buy them.

It’s just theory, but I think it makes business sense for them.
I thought all original Xbox games on disc were already backwards compatible, if you just pop the disc in? Is this true, or did I just imagine this was a thing they announced a while ago? I don't have an original Xbox disc to try... (I know... all my games are digital/backed up on HDDs)

These original Xbox games are the only ones that are currently BC:

Black
BloodRayne 2
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Dead to Rights
Fuzion Frenzy
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
The King of Fighters Neowave
Ninja Gaiden Black
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Psychonauts
Red Faction II
Sid Meier's Pirates
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

I'm ever so curious about next week's announcement...

You imagined it. A handful of games (it's like 10) are backwards compatible and "enhanced" on the Xbox One. You can buy them digitally, or if you own the disc, pop it in and you can download similar to how you would a 360 disc.

Edit: Beaten to it.

Would Game Pass more enticing for me for sure. Been holding off on a KOTOR and Fuzion Frenzy purchase for a while.

Man, I really want to know what Microsoft has in the pipeline for E3 this year. They need some games. Sea of Thieves seems to have pretty short legs now that a streamer has got to the end game content and revealed what it is.

Is Crackdown 3 still coming out? They have that and State of Decay 2 which is a $30 niche zombie game.

I assume we see Halo 6 which I'm excited about but that and Horizon 4 won't be enough to carry E3 for first party... I hope they have some surprises.

Hoping we finally get a solid release date for Crackdown 3. Cupboard is pretty empty.

I played the opening area last night, up to level 10 or 11. I picked the great-sword class and it feels pretty good gameplay wise. The story presentation is not good, but about as expected from a F2P MMO. You do have to lock-on manually like you would in DMC or Bayonetta, which feels fine on a melee class, though I imagine isn't as fun with the archer or mage classes.

Just the bit I've played so far I think it's worth checking out if you're more into action games. You actually have hitboxes that matter rather than the vague [target]>[cooldown] with dice rolls that a lot of MMOs seem to have. I don't know about later game though, maybe it gets to grindy if you don't pay.

I like the art style, it definitely looks different than the competition, though I could see the fairly sexy designs putting off some people.

I don't think Crackdown or Halo are system-sellers at this point, but they definitely need some exciting news to keep folks engaged on the platform. If Halo 6 isn't at E3 this year, there's a problem. I'm also very curious how the Game Pass inclusion impacts these games while still in development, since microtransactions are definitely going to be part of it since so many people will play them without paying MSRP.

If the Fable IIII rumors are true that would be a hell of an e3 announcement
As long as it doesn't look like that Kinect one. That Kinect game tarnished that IP IMO. With the cancellation track record they have had recently I'm not sure I would believe them if they show it and say 2020 release... might be another Scalebound situation.

Yea hopefully Microsoft has something good planned. Sony is killing it this fall with Dragon quest XI and Spider Man in September.
They have Detroit releasing right before E3 and something with Days Gone will be shown I'm sure and The Last of Us on top of the Dragon Quest and Spider-Man.

Nintendo I bet has something to show from Pokémon Switch coming in 2019 maybe? I'm trying to think of what else they have in the pipe...

This really needs to be true, and ideally, well into development to launch this year. I don't think anyone saw the Switch's success being as big as its been, Nintendo could potentially take second place this gen in terms of install base. Don't get me wrong, its not doom and gloom for MS, they still have a huge base and strong brand, but Sony's momentum isn't slowing down.

Crackdown 3 is set to come out in the last week of June if the release date posted by Amazon Spain back in January is correct (they also listed State of Decay for May 22) and Phil Spencer said last week that news regarding the release date are "coming soon".

But I agree, they need some heavy hitters at E3. Halo 6 will be there but I don't think is coming out until next year (probably in the spring, hopefully, with Gears 5 in the fall). FH4 is all but guaranteed but that won't do it. So yeah, I truly hope the Perfect Dark and Fable 4 rumors are all true. But even if they are, I doubt they're coming this year or even in 2019.

Phil did say he deliberately withheld some games from last year's E3 because he didn't want to announce them too early for, well, obvious reasons (although I think people should start getting over the Scalebound debacle. Is not like it's the only game in history to have been canceled). So this year might be the right time to unveil them.

If Nintendo is releasing Smash this year they can just coast on that for awhile. Then again Nintendo is in a stupid good spot right now with momentum and indie games and third party publishers now all trying to get their games ported and they haven't even announced Virtual Console plans.

And even if Microsoft shows something new this year, it'll be awhile before they see the light of day. That Fable IV rumor was just from a few months back and from the sounds of it, it's super early in development as in pre production in the very best so I wouldn't count on that showing up until 2020 the very earliest.

If Crackdown 3 is coming out at the end of June, I sure hope they got GI cover story for next month. If they don't, I'll take it as a sign that the game is content light and I'll probably wait on getting it. Sad since it's my favorite Xbox franchise besides Halo.

A new IP is needed pretty badly. After the shitstorm with Halo 5, 6 isn't going to be a system seller imo.

While I wouldn't associate content (or lack of thereof) and quality with any game getting the GI cover of the month, I do agree that it'll definitely be a sign of MS having faith in Sumo Digital. Of course, we don't know how far in advanced does Game Informer locks in their monthly covers so it may not happen and Crackdown 3 could still be awesome. Or the way around as well....

I normally agree as well, but it's just been too quiet on their marketing front for it. It it got the GI cover with a huge news story of "it's out in late June and here's your first look in May!" I would at least feel a little more comfortable with preordering it.

And I can agree with that 101%.

I think that after Konami and Bethesda announced MGS V and Fallout 4 respectively only a few months ahead of their release, everyone's been trying to emulate that. the March release for Sea of Thieves was announced in December I believe. State of Decay 2 is coming out in May but we didn't know until last month, so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Crackdown 3 final and real release date is announced in a few days.

Let's not forget that Halo 5 was announced in May 2014 and the game didn't ship until late October 2015. Pretty sure those days, at least for MS first-party titles, are gone.

Would love a new Cave game but not at $35. Will keep an eye on this one for a sale.
agreed, pinned it but that seems pricey for digital only release for that type of game that i believe is just another hd remake with some additions,

I don't think Crackdown or Halo are system-sellers at this point, but they definitely need some exciting news to keep folks engaged on the platform. If Halo 6 isn't at E3 this year, there's a problem. I'm also very curious how the Game Pass inclusion impacts these games while still in development, since microtransactions are definitely going to be part of it since so many people will play them without paying MSRP.
i dont think you know what ur talking about, i believe they said that the next halo entry is on the back burner since they are trying to finally address some of the issues with mcc and how to improve, its been along time since the crackdown announcement so i suspect its getting a release later this year, i doubt micro is involved besides they arent doing all new releases just some of microsofts first party ones besides if people buy dlc or even have game pass for six months then the game will have been paid for

Yea hopefully Microsoft has something good planned. Sony is killing it this fall with Dragon quest XI and Spider Man in September.
if you think that is sony killing it you got some low gaming standards

nintendo already announced that they will drag out games to extend the life of the system plus their refusal to allow 64gb carts or bigger will also hurt with thrid party developers, and since they are dragging it out i doubt they would release any pokemon mainstream game since they would have to fix their refusal for an all in one account across systems and they would hate for people to not rebuy the same game across every platform over and over again plus if they dont address it then they wouldn't be able to get pokemon bank to work which alot of users have to use for transfering. i suspect some kind of luigi game or something less inspiring with no system movers needed at this point for them plus they have shifted most of their big releases to march the following year to not compete against the main 2 consoles

Every 1st party title in the last few years has had micro transactions. Gears 4, Halo 5, Sea of Thieves, every Forza game. It's part of the business strategy, and they're clearly looking at different revenue streams other than selling games at retail between that and micro stuff in every game.

Apparently everyone here has low standards. Sony has some killer exclusives most of us would love to see on Xbox.

Sony has a mountain of multi-platform games I would love to see on the Xbox much less the actual exclusives.

On(my)Topic: I am addicted to The Witness, and I am not sure why, easily put 15 hours in, between Sunday and last night. The game reminds me of those hidden item games in many ways, and I loathe those games. Skipped the gym yesterday so I could have more play time. I haven't felt this way about a game in years. The game is hard, but it has a way of teaching you things as you keep circling the island. I am stumped by a puzzle and 3 hours later, I am either taught in game how to solve it or a lightbulb goes off and I get it done. What a great surprise with this freebie.

I'm interested in seeing what microsoft has at PAX this weekend. I think last year it was a couple big titles that had already been released and some smaller titles (full metal furies/voodoo vince) that were upcoming. I'm expecting sea of thieves, possibly state of decay and PUBG. Anyone else going?

Fable IV being announced alone would mean almost nothing to me. Fable III was gutter trash, and as far as I'm aware Microsoft has no teams in their stable that have any RPG experience. I'd give it a shot, but with low expectations. If they contracted it to an outside studio I could have a bit more hope, but the big ones coming the mind are unlikely to go back to doing that kind of work.

I don't know about MS building another team just for Fable either. It's not as big as Halo or Gears, and even The Coalition was re-purposed from a different studio that already existed. With only 343 being built from the ground up I'd say it was a failed experiment.

The rumor from a few months back stated the team behind Forza Horizon were the ones trying to do something with Fable. So take that for what you will. I Personally am eager to run over bandits and trolls with my custom paint job 370Z.

Realistically some details on updates, and maybe an indie game announcement. State of Decay 2 comes out in May so there probably will be info on that. Only 2 months until E3 so I don't think anything big will be announced.

I messaged MS Support and they did un-ban my Rewards account, also giving me 500 bonus points. Worth a shot if you're in the same boat, thanks for the heads up whoever brought it up.

Maybe it's not technically possible, but I'm kind of hoping that this big announcement is an emulator that can play all or most Xbox 360 games automatically.
