Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Maybe it's not technically possible, but I'm kind of hoping that this big announcement is an emulator that can play all or most Xbox 360 games automatically.
If only licensing weren't an issue. This would make even more sense for the original Xbox, but it'll never happen.
I don't think licensing would be an issue for a true on-the-fly emulator (playing a 360 game directly without a separate download). The problem is I don't think even the X is powerful enough to emulate 360 binaries, at least at the performance level needed for gaming. They could put out an app that performed the likely binary translation on someone's XB1, with a download for any potential extras (X enhanced assets, performance tweaks). That would raise some interesting copyright / licensing questions. There are allowances for doing things in RAM for interoperability, which is why emulators are generally considered legal, but having a persistent copy on HDD may be stretching things.

What would be nice is having the BC fully integrated into the system software and removing the bloat from the individual game downloads. Seemed like XBLA games each gained around 600 MB vs. their 360 download sizes, while full games were a full GB larger. There's probably a lot of duplication in those size increases, so there's a lot of potential space to be reclaimed.

Since Playground Games were just starting to hire for their "open world RPG" over the winter that's going to be awhile off. Unless they only put one type of enemy in the game like, I dunno skeletons.

That would have been a sick burn if you said three enemies, skeletons, cobras, and sharks.

Missed the announcement that this is finally coming out next week after the delay from the original date:

https://twitter.com/dpadstudio/status/980842989009473536?s=21

Played some on PC but am looking forward to getting further into it on the X!

True, Sony didn't have to do any licensing for software emulation for PS1 games on PS3, they all worked if you had the disc, digital re-releases were another story. Pretty sure it's the tinkering for each title to make the game work which constitutes a re-release / requires permission.

I wonder if on the fly would be (theoretically) possible with the difference in horsepower for the original Xbox. My guess is yes, but they are more focused on the business side of things.

I was considering putting an edit to my post that an emulator for the original Xbox might be feasible given they're both x86 architecture CPUs. To my knowledge, the emulator community has had trouble emulating its GPU, but MS engineers with full access to the design docs could pull something off.

I messaged MS Support and they did un-ban my Rewards account, also giving me 500 bonus points. Worth a shot if you're in the same boat, thanks for the heads up whoever brought it up.
How did you message them? Did you just post on the forums under the Rewards Support page? I'd like to contact them, since my old Bing Rewards account was banned a few years ago (same as most others - was running a few different email addresses to stack up points faster. Most accounts got banned, but oddly enough my fiance's is still active, so I've been using hers for gift cards lately), just not sure how best to go about getting ahold of them. Thanks.

I've been playing Gears 4 religiously since day one, so it's kinda weird that I'm not really NEEDING a GOW 5 by next year. 4 still feels pretty new, relatively speaking. Like, Gears 5 would have to be a pretty big reimagining of the franchise, while still remaining true to it's roots, to get me super hyped. Otherwise we'll just get Gears 4.5 style multiplayer and another cover shooter campaign. I kinda want an open world, in the Division style, and a return of Overrun/Beast mode. I'm also afraid it'll turn out like Judgment if they go too far out there and it'll kill the franchise for good. I don't know how TC is going to pull it off. I certainly don't envy their position.

These original Xbox games are the only ones that are currently BC:

Black
BloodRayne 2
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Dead to Rights
Fuzion Frenzy
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
The King of Fighters Neowave
Ninja Gaiden Black
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Psychonauts
Red Faction II
Sid Meier's Pirates
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

I'm ever so curious about next week's announcement...
Please be Timesplitters 2. Please be Timesplitters 3.

Please.

I've recently been screwing around with Prominence Poker (F2P) and I've been having a really good time with it. A long time ago a CAG posted a price glitch on some in game chips and I know I spent a few bucks.

They were well spent. It's worth checking out imo

Does ninja gaiden work or strictly nonka gaiden black? Saw a copy of ninja gaiden for 4.99 at hpb today which got me wondering.

Only Black last time I checked. I attempted to put my original copy into the Xbox One without success. I think their main focus was on games that were still digitally available. Although their not the best in the franchise, I hope they make some Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games BC in the next batch of originals.

Hey to my peeps about ODST I’ve been hella busy the last couple days I’ll add everyone tomorrow and maybe we can play for a bit? Like around 9-10 EST?
Should be ok for me. Can’t stay up too late (on the east coast as well and have work early Friday) but I’m good for a few hours.

Does anyone else consistently read "Full Metal Furies" as "Full Metal Furries" or is it just me?
Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. In this case, it's your dignity. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

This was hinted at a few posts back but...Is emulation of the OG xbox library a workaround for licensing? If they make all discs playable, they're not altering the game code. They can do that first and trickle out digital downloadable versions as they get licensing done.

The only cure for furries is lead.
I Got nothing against any of those people. They took the time and effort to make those weird, colorful and more than likely warm as hell costumes so I gotta respect their commitment. I Just don't understand it is all and think it's weird, but that's more on me not being to accept things because I don't know any better.

Still hoping we see a Persona 5 port to PC/Switch and XBox. It's been a year and so I'd imagine the "timed" exclusive would run out soon if that's the case. Sony has had a lot of timed exclusives lately.

My total GS is increasing as I finish more achievements (a large portion have been on my Xbox 360), but my monthly total on the Leaderboards is not changing. Anyone else noticing this?

Edit:

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status

Shows Leaderboards as status green.
From what I’ve seen, 360 games don’t count towards the monthly leaderboard. Don’t know why, but the last few months I’ve played a bunch - through Game Pass or GwG - and it didn’t boost me up on the board at all. Seems kinda silly but that’s just the way they have them tallied I guess.

Seemed to count before at some point. Oh well. Thanks for the reply.

Watching the Digital Foundry video on Doom makes me wonder why Ubi locks at 30fps at not full rez when more is possible.

Newegg has the FC5 season pass for $27. Tempting since it includes the FC3 port. Out of pocket I'd be paying $67 total for the game and pass.

They've never counted for me on the leaderboard, but I've seen others ask this question before thinking they'd seen it count prior. Not sure if folks are imagining things or if its accidentally counted them, but it typically doesn't / isn't supposed to.

I had wrote an earlier post as to why I couldn't understand why I love The Witness. I finally figured it out. The game is literally a Metroidvana game for the players mind. You circle the island over and over as you pick up new ways of approaching puzzles and return to old ones that made absolutely no sense. You probably have to be a person that enjoys puzzles/puzzle games(/sudoku/kakuro/etc) to enjoy this one, but for fans of the genre he game is absolutely brilliant.

If this came out on physical disk I would pay full price for this GWG title today.

Because you have better frame pacing when locking at 30fps with room to spare for more resolution. If lock is removed, resolution and fps are really more variable and frame pacing would suck, as current consoles and some games cant mantain certain games at 60fps locked.
I think the best way should be dynamic res and optional vsync/fps lock. That way, games are more futereproofed when new consoles are out (like pro or xox)

If the game is capable of sustaining higher frame rates, then that is a silly decision. It's a good thing Ubisoft isn't in charge of the game. ;)

Trying to parse the game sale. Is there any real need to pounce on Just Cause 3, Rise of Tomb Raider or MGSV? And if so, are their special editions worth it? Part of me just wants to settle in with all the GWG and wait for deeper discounts.

They've never counted for me on the leaderboard, but I've seen others ask this question before thinking they'd seen it count prior. Not sure if folks are imagining things or if its accidentally counted them, but it typically doesn't / isn't supposed to.
I did a comparison between TA and XBL for March 2018. Seems I was under estimating my total gs for the month. TA shows both platforms - xbox 360 and xbox one - but uses my local time whereas XBL uses UTC. I think the time difference accounts for the last 15 gs I can't match. Based on last month's totals between the 2 tracking systems it's clear XBL leaderboards don't include 360 achievements.

I'll just chalk this up to the Dunning–Kruger effect.

I would say the complete version of RotTR is worth the $20. I started the game back in July and completed the story and loved it. The Baba Yaga story pack is solid, and I keep coming back to the other modes for TA challenges and it keeps men engaged to the point where I keep playing after I finish what I was trying to do.

I’ll probably jump on RotTR for $20 as well. The disc is $10 at Redbox to buy, but this complete digital copy for $20 makes more sense. I’ve been playing it through a one month Game Pass sub and it’s been great!

My Scorpio Edition controller's right bumper is busted, which is very disappointing.  Half the times I press it, it just doesn't register.

I've been an Xbox gamer for 10 years, and never had an issue with a bumper.  All of my controllers eventually experience "the drift," and need replacing.  But they usually last 2 or 3 years before a replacement is needed.

But for a bumper to break after only a few months, I guess I just got a lemon.

In any case, I bought one on newegg for 37.50 after using the promo code EMCPTPT32.

I think it's a decent price for a new controller, no?  Figured I'd share.
