Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

Saw that too but also gives the option to install without purchasing so not sure what’s going on there. Downloading while I’m at work so guess I’ll see tonight.
I don't really trust it. I'd like to just be able to check out with the price being at zero and not just assume the other option has some catch to it since it sounds like what you'd click for a demo or whatever.

Went to spend the ~600 gems I have on Xbox Rewards and, of course, the $5 and $10 gift cards are out of stock. Wonder if they’ll keep them out of stock until the program change?

Nope. They even had a pretty dramatic shutting down of the OG Xbox Live services many years ago, b/c the OG infrastructure was holding back updates to the 360 (like friend limits, which was capped at 100 at one time). All OG servers on XBL have been offline for many years, a publisher would have to update the game to support or otherwise emulate online functionality, which isn't inconceivable, but is extremely unlikely.
If anything I could see MS doing something like Xlink, allowing for jury-rigged LAN play. But I don't know how much of liability something like that actually is, on the security side. There probably isn't enough demand for it overall for the amount of effort it would take, and really out of the games so far it'd pretty much only be for the Battlefront games.

If they fix KOTOR 2, I will happily play it again. Curious to see how Jedi Academy fares. And $10 is better then the outrageous prices they have risen to on disc
Better to just get it on Steam and install the Restoration Mod through Workshop. They really emphasized that they aren't cracking open the code during the BC interview. I think that's only the case with X enhanced 360 games.

That said, I don't remember that state that KotOR II Xbox ended in. I don't remember a bunch of technical stuff, just the cut content and especially the lack of a real ending.

Thanks for posting...one of the few that's hoping for motorcycles to shake things up. PGR4 anyone?
i would them rather acknowledge the pgr games and make them backwards/enhanced, well as long as they stay with open world and hopefully either include at start or get something similiar out sooner but loved the looks of hot wheels expansion

It's my understanding that lan play, and therefore xlink, still functions. I haven't used xlink since the Halo 2 days, so don't hold me to it.

The installed version on modded consoles had a game breaking glitch right at the beginning when you play as R2, but since you could get around it by playing from the disc for that part it's probably not still an issue.

Apparently there are only 2 options 100 gems for an overwatch wall paper or 10,000 gems for an occulus rift. Everything inbetween is sold out.

Have 9,400 or so gems I can borrow?
I have as many as you do. If 15 - 20 of us chip in we can time share a VR headset. Mmmm ... on second thought no. I don't want to share a sweaty, dirty headset with 15 other people and I'm sure 15 other people probably feel the same about my head.

There is a joystick sticking out of the top of my head. If you want me to look up you pull it back, and if you want me to look down you push it forward. Simple.
... And if I push it right/left, you'll tilt your head 90 degrees clockwise/counterclockwise while remaining looking ahead.

;)

I hope they take the opportunity to fix the online part of Red Dead Redemption.

This.
Bit the bullet and submitted a request to have my suspension lifted as well. Fingers crossed
Took a few emails - and I think 3 different reps in the same email chain - until this morning I finally got an email back saying they restored my original account and gave me the bonus 500 points that others have mentioned. Now I just have to be careful. I still have my fiancé’s account open but we share a computer and address (obviously). As long as I’m not doing Xbox/MS currency codes anymore on her account and then depositing them on mine, I think I’ll be ok.

Was getting concerned that not all those BC games will be available digitally after I read a tweet from the @xbox account asking someone if they were able to track down a copy of Republic Commando. I sent a tweet a few hours ago asking if they would all be added and got no response.

So as a backup plan I just ordered the following from GS:

Blinx
Conker Live and Reloaded
Morrowind
Jedi Academy
KOTOR II

Would have only gotten a few of those but needed to get over the $35 for free shipping. Came to about $42 after tax and Elite Pro. Never use the damn thing so came in use for once.

They didn’t carry SSX 3 or Mercenaries. Already have Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jade Empire and Battlefront 2.

About $8 a game isn’t too bad — if they work.

Mark me down as another one who successfully got their original account un-suspended from Microsoft Rewards. They sent me a couple emails about looking into it, but never got one that had the actual resolution. I checked this morning and I'm able to log in so I'm good to go, had a few thousand points in there also.

edit: Downside looks like they switched over the "Microsoft Gift Card" and "Xbox Gift Card" to direct deposit on my account. Since someone said they just got a code seems to be rolling out randomly.
It tells you at the bottom of the page where you choose the amount of the card if it is direct deposit or at least it did on my account.

Got Jedi Starfighter for $5 at my local used store. They have copies of some other SW games but they are quite pricey.

Also, a disc only copy of Breakdown for $8, sounds like a sleeper hit I totally missed, not sure if it's worth it though.

Excited for all the new OG Xbox BC games. Think I already have Jade Empire, Republic Commando and Panzer Dragoon Orta from this latest batch but definitely interested in more of them.

Since on that xbox video stream they mentioned how great Disney was about allowing the Star Wars stuff I was curious about what SW games were still missing. Looks like Jedi Knight 2, Episode 3, Obi Wan, and Clone Wars. There is also the first 2 Lego Star Wars games but those were combined into Lego Star Wars the complete saga for 360 which is already BC so who knows if they'd ever pop up.

It looks like it is working, according to their forums. I tried to set it up when it first came out but apparently you have to physically plug your Xbox into your PC, and my laptop doesn't actually have an Ethernet port.

https://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44945&sid=1eb1e725fd47bacb8302f6881630f06b

I just don't think enough people will adopt it when it's not an official offshoot that you can easily set up through your Xbox One menu alone.

A comparable example in my eyes is the el Dewrito version of Halo Online. At this point is basically Halo 3's custom games on PC, with a vastly improved Forge coming soon, but you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get in on so it usually floats around 50 active players max. I think Installation 01, which has gotten 343's blessing, will be a lot more populated.

Anyone confirm the Morrowind goty edition is also BC, I think that was the only way to get the DLC
The description sure sounds like it's for the GOTY, "Includes Morrowind plus all of the content from the Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions." It's going to suck if it's somehow only for the default version like the image shows, as I have GOTY. Hopefully they'll allow either disc option to work since you can't buy the DLC separately. I looked into options with Oblivion a while back as I only have the default disc, and with that if you find the expansion disc it only gives you access to the DLC alone, meaning you need to own Oblivion digitally to use it.

Anyways, before ordering a bunch of stuff online or digitally or whatever, make sure to check your local retro stores. I know we have about a few of the upcoming games for $4 a piece at my store.

Hit up gamestop.com last night and just got shipping notices for Republic Commando, Jade Empire, KOTORII, and Morrowind. I've never had the chance to play Jade Empire or Morrowind but I know how much they are loved so I wanted to give them a shot.

Stupid question : I am in Michigan, and just purchased a game from live and I was charged taxes. Any way to avoid paying taxes on games, or the only solution is buying Xbox credit ?

Not sure what states if any that MS doesn't collect the tax. If there are any you would have to "move" there. Using a credit card or Xbox credit makes no difference you will still be taxed.

In NY I paid tax the other day and used live credit.

EDIT: Oops late to respond

Don't know if I'm mistaken but it looks like about 5 free to play DLCs were added to xbox rewards for 100 to 1000 gems. I'm guessing that means credit won't be restocked. Giving more options in DLC and not making credit available is pretty lame.

i'm in california and never once got charged tax on a digital purchase, I forgot it was a thing until you guys mentioned it.

I'm in Nevada and have never been charged tax on Microsoft digital purchases. Must depend on your state.

I always fully claim my unpaid Xbox live tax purchases on my end of year tax filing of course...
