Yeah, I see it like Gears 4 - a well made game that is totally worth playing, but maybe not a system-seller.

 
i have a ps4 pro but won't be buying god of war until it's below $20. if didn't have a backlog, i'd be more inclined to buy day 1.

I'll admit ... I'm picking up GoW today. I agree with the other posters: I don't really get the hype. Planned to play it and trade it back in pretty quickly. All in all it would end up costing me about 5 dollars to complete in about 30 days. But I won't stop xboxing. It's not the primary reason I have ps4. Video games are the primary reason I have an xbox.
 
The massive amount of buzz has me more interested in GoW, but I've never beat any of the previous games. It seems like I could start with this one and treat the old stuff as a prequel later on, but I probably still won't play it for a while.

 
I Haven't even bought Horizon Zero Dawn yet, but I'm happy to pick up a well reviewed game regardless when it's under $20! Plus I just now realized I have played all the God of War games prior to the new one and I'm almost amazed at myself.

I have both systems and had lots more interest in Gears 4. Bought my XBox One pretty much so I could play it actually.

Tried to play God of War 1 and 2 in the past and the platforming was just too maddening for me. Also game save issue IRC on Vita. I think this one has a lot less platforming that so maybe when it is cheaper I will give it a try. Never even bought God of War 3.

But yeah I think overall neither is sell a ton of consoles.

Pretty funny that there’s more talk about God of War in this thread than the PSN one! I’m getting it today. Do enjoy those games, though I didn’t finish the last one.

I wish it was on Xbox One just because like others, I much prefer the controller over the PS4. Will always get multiplats on Xbox, even more so with the X.

Walmart came back in stock PS4 Pro GOW bundle for $399.99 able to resubmit and got the last one. Amazon scalpers are reselling for over $500.

Out of curiosity, why does calling the kid "boy" bother you? I quite frequently use the word to refer to my oldest son (and not my other two sons).

 
I mean how long of an experience is God Of War that it's worth it to drop $400 on a system? 15-20 hours? People love to rag on the Halo/Gears/Forza Trinity but the truth is you can play those games for hundreds of hours and still get plenty of enjoyment out of them. Can you say the same about God Of War and Horizon Zero Dawn?

I think it depends on the person. I can get a lot out of a good Halo game, because i'll dip into the multiplayer from time to time. On the other hand, I am not a fan of Gears multiplayer. Forza games have a great SP, but I've never done much in MP outside of a Forzathon or two.

For those who really value the single player experience, the comparison is a little closer. Especially when PS seems to favor single player, story-driven exclusives. I have never owned a Sony console, but I plan to pick one up when Spider-man drops and play through all of these exclusives I've been missing. I will always prefer the Xbox experience, but they REALLY need to pick things up when it comes to quality exclusive titles.

I've never owned a PS before  I figured why not jump in now with a nice looking console and a free game for the same price as a regular PS Pro plus I'll have a lot of games exclusively to PS that I can choose from.

 
I’m tempted to trade my original fatty PS4 towards a Pro. But not sure I really need it since I’ll still be playing my X more.

According to this case in a federal appeals court in Atlanta, Georgia it can have a racist usage, but is dependent upon context.

I feel like "boy" fits the colder, distant Kratos character (again, based on my limited time with the series). I certainly don't read anything racially-charged into it, unless he starts calling him "cracka kid" halfway through the game. I have to agree calling someone "boy" who isn't your kid is pretty weird though. Makes me think of a southern politician...maybe that's where the race angle comes in.

My father called me all kinds of things growing up. Boy is the only one I care to repeat. lol

I grew up in the south and definitely have that connotation when I hear it used in certain ways, like to address someone, but not if its said in an endearing way (ie "This is my boy, he's 7"). Haven't heard the audio from GoW so I can't comment on if that association comes up for me, but in the context of the game, I don't expect it to.

Could have sworn it was used in the famous "your name is Toby" scene from Roots. But upon review I was incorrect.
 
Yeah, Kratos is from Sparta and the new game is set in what is now northern Europe(?), and his voice actor is African-American (still, apparently they changed the long time voice actor for this game). Was there a shitstorm that I missed with the replacement being announced? I think Kratos had the same voice since the original game including the various guest appearances, though the bit I've heard of the new game didn't sound different from what I remember of the old games, so it wasn't jarring like Hayter being dropped from Metal Gear

I was going to try and shift us back to Xbox but we're pretty light on upcoming stuff before E3. Just State of Decay and Vampyr. Vampyr sounds interesting but I need to see how it actually plays.

The same can be said for those games as well since they barely have changed at all from each iteration. Sony has the "Single Player Experience" Locked down this gen Xbox can try to replicated but I feel this gen they went way too much the multiplayer route etc. Every single major multiplayer IP from them has gone the lootbox route etc.

 
I've been playing Jade Empire on the X It's pretty glorious! Seems near locked 60fps outside of the occasional stutter but I didn't make it to the big town yet. It's also only 15-17 hours long which is hella short for a Bioware RPG.

Oh and since Bloomy didn't post yet, the Griffin challenge is live! Get 750 kills in Versus or Horde. Obviously Horde is the way to go.

I don’t care that Kratos says boy, but it’s used so frequently that it bothers me. Some of the dialogue is very unbelievable as far as how people actually communicate.

This is a game where I killed Hercules by slamming his head in a door way repeatedly and turned a severed God's screaming head into a flashlight. I Think this is a big leap up for Kratos' communication skills compared to the last games.

And I await the inevitable Hank Hill and Kratos mashup saying "That boy ain't right."

About 10 years ago when I met my wife's youngest niece and nephew I couldn'tremember his name. I asked if the boy is coming to stay with us next weekend. It just stuck after that. Now "the boy" has a boy of his own (earlier this month). He is like 1/4 Mexican but that never factored into my calling him "the boy".

This whole 'debate' reminds me of another message board I am on. A small but very vocal contingent of people believe Thug is a racist term. To keep it some what on topic I mentioned that the Batman video game and a few movies and such had white people calling other white people (who happened to be criminals) thugs. Context used to matter but more and more it doesn't seem so.

Speaking of annoying repetitive dialog in a game....

In FC5 there is a female companion character that says something like fuck the fucking fuckers.

Maybe funny the first 30 times. After the next 200 times it gets to be a bit much. CheapyD mentioned it on last weeks CAG cast. Eventually switched her out just too damn annoying.

As far as 10/10, do you agree with every “Certified Fresh” movie review from Rotten Tomatoes? Nothing wrong with differing opinions.

God of War looks cool. I don't have a PS4 but if it was an Xbox exclusive or multi platform, I would prob buy it once I could get it for $20-30. It can't be on Xbox though because GoW is already Gears of War on Xbox.

I really like this. I'm sure there will be a bunch of groups I want to make but the first one that comes to mind is making a group of games that I'd need to put a disc in to play. I don't have many at this point but may not remember them off the top of my head.

I'm actually going the other route - I'm buying the console and trading my plain white one in and then trading the game back.

My dad called me and my brother boy, and various other kids in our life boy. One of my lifelong friends is still (negatively (humorously)) affected by it.

I noticed that since I had to insert the disc to install Morrowind :xbox: it has a little disc icon in the top corner, but it doesn't seem to be consistent. I would love for one of the filters to be "requires disc" but this will do for now.

 
Several sales ago I bought dear Esther - the director commentaries are the most pretentious things I have ever heard...I am more irritated by this than the shit ending to far cry 5

it has a 95 on metacritic

i'd say it's pretty damn good, there are people here that think The Last of Us is as bad as Amy so differing opinions tend to be wrong

I'd be happy when they add the option on "where the hell did I meet you". When you play something like Rainbow 6 then add someone because you played well together. Then you put the game down for a few months to take a break and you look at your buddylist and be like "where the hell did I meet you at". I want a folder where I can store your gamertag so I remember what game we played initially

Not going to debate you, but a person’s opinion is never wrong, as it’s his or her opinion. It may differ from your own opinion, seeming to you as wrong. An opinion may be unpopular, immoral, against the law, etc., but it is never wrong.

I actually owned a PS4 before an Xbox One, and still own/play a PS3. My opinion of The Last of Us was unpopular, as I did not care for it, but again, I’m not “wrong” because my opinion differs from the majority 👍🏼 All of this is my opinion, so you’re free to feel the way you do!

This whole 'debate' reminds me of another message board I am on. A small but very vocal contingent of people believe Thug is a racist term. To keep it some what on topic I mentioned that the Batman video game and a few movies and such had white people calling other white people (who happened to be criminals) thugs. Context used to matter but more and more it doesn't seem so.

There’s a certain group of people who like to use the word thug in place of another word when referring to another group of people who don’t look like them.

Hate to mention XBox related stuff in the Playstation thread but, the XBox GC on my bing account now says "Direct Deposit" against it, beside the "Redeem" link. So, looks like my account transitioned to the new rewards system.
