Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I managed to get it running and just played for a few games. There are a few oddities, like the option of having sprint if the host allows it, all of the weapon and vehicle models seem to be from the original Halo Online so are either custom or from Reach and 4, and items can still be enabled from the microtransaction weapons of Online as well. It does still have a toned down version of the Online HUD as well.

It's way more polished than what I played months back. Well made menus and full controller support aside from chat, and the added ALL the controller configurations from 3, Reach, and 4. I wasn't getting totally destroyed by the M+KB players but hard to say if that will stay the same.

I see the major issue they have now. Because so many people are hosting games at once, the server list itself takes a long time to load and is pretty laggy while doing so. Once you can get into the game itself it runs great, and they're working on a fix.

thanks for sharing this! although i won't be using it myself, it's really interesting. I wonder if my bootcamp'd 2012 MacBook Pro could run it.
I'd say it's worth trying, I looked at it in task manager and it was only using a little over a gig of ram with fairly low CPU usage too. It has graphics settings you could turn down as well. It was designed to run on the toasters of three years ago for the Russian F2P market, with the base code of 3 obviously being pretty low spec by 2015's standards.

Pretty big deal to get a brand new $30 game that is likely to get good reviews for GwG IMO. That alone makes it a good month.

Wow I'm pleasantly shocked at getting Super Mega Baseball 2 free at launch. That's almost like when PS+ got Rocket League at launch even though I know nobody will agree with me lol. Despite having no license the first one was a blast and as someone who puts countless hours into The Show every year I can acknowledge the greatness that is Super Mega Baseball.

I was able to successfully get refunded for MGS V since I bought it on the spring sale on 4/9 and never played it. Awesome month for Xbox players!

Are there customization options or downloadable rosters maybe? I feel like the lack of official MLB teams would bother me too much while playing a baseball game.

I get that and if I didn't have The Show to scratch that itch maybe I wouldn't be so fond of SMB. I know that sounds weird but I guess for me it's a better supplement than if it's your only baseball game. The first one had a few different customization options and you could name the players whatever. So it was fun for me to go in and put my friends and family in it. It's all about the gameplay though and it's top notch.

I already own the 360 GWGs but I didn't pay much for them. Have no interest in baseball, but happy for the people who do.

Have only played MGS1-2 but will probably take V for a spin.

Not a system seller? When was the last time Xbox had a "system seller" LMAO. When was the last time Xbox had a game with over a 90 metacritic let alone be in contention for game of the generation?
360 had a ton of system sellers. Halo 3, Gears 2, Mass Effect (at the time). Lots of exclusives people bought 360s to play. This generation, games like Gears 4 and Halo 5 are very good games and I enjoy playing them both, but they have far more competition on the platform for MP and aren't really attracting new players to the platform/brand the way their predecessors did.

Forza Horizon 3 is the only exclusive which scored above a 90 this generation, to answer your question.

I'm not sure what you mean by "contention for game of the generation," I never suggested anything to that effect.

MGS V is a pretty interesting game, I'll warn you and everyone else getting through the first couple hours is rough. It's kind of like a long un-skippable cut scene. After that though the game really opens up.

GWG for May:

X1:
Super Mega Baseball 2
MGS V
I would love to hear the backstory with MGS V and Game Pass. It had one of (if not THE) shortest tenures on Game Pass. It was removed like 2 or 3 months after it was added. I wonder if that was because they were planning for it to be a GwG, or if it was so rarely downloaded/played on Game Pass that they decided to remove it and make it a GwG.

Either way, looking forward to trying it out finally. I never did when it was on GP because it seemed like a huge and involving game.

Started kingdom new lands last night and got to day 8 but after day 5 or 6 I no longer was finding chests that contained munny or my villagers stopped giving me munnny. Can someone who has played this tell me how to make munny?
I gotchu. (I'm only using spoiler tags to cut down on space; there are no real spoilers in case anyone was wondering.)

The best way to make money is hunting rabbits. Use your builders to clear trees outward from your camp. Preferably two or three screens out in both directions. Clear land will allow rabbits to spawn. At the same time, recruit a bunch of archers. They will help you at night against the enemies, and they will hunt rabbits during the day for $. You will be rolling in more money than you know what to do with it.

Couple of things to keep in mind though. First, if there is a vagrant camp (where you recruit people) near your camp, do NOT chop down the last tree between the vagrant camp and your camp. If you do, the vagrant camp will despawn and you will lose a great source of new recruits. Second, the same mechanic applies to the merchant's camp (the merchant is the guy with the mule that gives you gold each day if you paid him 1 gold the previous day). If you chop down the last tree standing between your camp and his camp, then he will despawn. HOWEVER -- if his camp is near yours and preventing you from clearing land to spawn rabbits, then get rid of his camp. Hunting rabbits will get you way more $ than the merchant. So prioritize the vagrant camps first, then hunting rabbits.

Its probably not as interesting as you might think. WWE 2K17 was just added FEB 1, 2018 and its already leaving on May 1, 2018. WWE 2K16 was up for many months. I'm guessing they have contracts for these games at 3, 6, and 12 months.

Two of those games I don't own, but one of which is a baseball game so I'm torn if that counts as a loss or a win if I get a baseball game that doesn't have robots, violence or Mario.

Really excited for Vanquish. I tried to track one down at Gamestop around here when it went BC but they were all out within 100 miles.

It's one of those that's really good and didn't get noticed until well after the fact. If you like Platinum's games it's quite good.

Great month for GWG. I almost bought MGSV for $10 on the spring sale but I knew it was on PS+ so I thought we might get it soon.

i would've liked it a lot more if the whole game was like the first hour

Sounds like you don't have principles to live by, Mr. Moneybags.
well if you had interest in the game, rather than wait 8 years for it to be free you could've just worked an hour or two at wal mart to buy it and then quit

i think it was free on PS plus back in 2012

Or if it was going to sit in your back log for 5 years, you just saved money for it to end up in the same place.

If you WANTED to play the game right away, I agree that waiting 5 years for 5 dollars can seem a bit silly. But a lot of games we want to try or ok with playing but there is no rush. So waiting for small savings seems fine

The only thing I'd recommend is maybe look up a summary of MGS 3 and Peace Walker on YouTube if you're interested in the story and have no intention to play them first. V focuses on Big Boss, who you play as in later games but only hear about in MGS 1 and 2, and characters like Miller and Huey are mostly from Peace Walker.

Definitely play Ground Zeroes before V if you have it from GWG a while back. The story in that is only like 2 hours so it's not a big deal.

Yeah, it's the easiest way to find it unless you spotted it during the match before hand. Do you mostly play killer or survivor?
Survivor. Im a p1 Dwight. Just started playing as killer the other day, but I was rage quitting too much so jumped back to Dwight lol. Last night I was in one of those field maps with the Pig. 1 of four disconnected and other 2 were killed. I've found hatch numerous times, but last night I swear I ran around for like 15 minutes and couldnt find it to save my soul. IDK if Pig was just watching me run around or what cause I didnt run into her once and to top it off I was injured. I just gave up and said come and get me Pig. Im trying to get the foghorn achievement but the way the genny is I can't watch my back

Standard Kojima, then? ^_^

I'll be sure to start it when I have plenty of time. Really appreciate the sleep function this gen.

For some reason I remembered a movie from my childhood tonight, The Sword and the Sorcerer! Searched online to see if I could watch it anywhere and found the DVD for the low price of $89.99 on Amazon.

But they have it with RiffTrax on Amazon Prime. Would love to watch it without the commentary but damn is that movie cheesy. What passed as awesome through the eyes of a kid.

Anyone else remember it?

Yeah the farm maps can be a bitch when looking for the hatch. The corn can be so disorienting trying to remember where you've looked. I hate playing against the pig, it seems like more often than not they just tunnel whoever they trap.

Aw yeah - good old 80’s movies - pure entertainment! I still have the original non-riff trax version - looks like you can buy a used copy for around $39 on amazon. Did you ever see ‘The Dungeonmaster’? Another classic 😆

Been considering picking up The Surge. I have an X and a 4K tv. Never played a souls game before. Should I pick it up or wait? Chances are it will be going into my backlog anyways.

There's a demo to download and try. I was planning on getting it, and it looks very nice in 4K, but the gameplay just isn't for me, so I passed.

I'd only caution that the MU and this years model are a step down from the 2016 KS Samsung models in terms of HDR, for whatever reason Samsung cut back on the nits level and peak brightness. As far as a "smart tv" their apps work really well, the Steam app to stream my PC to the tv with a bluetoothed xbox controller works better than the actual physical Steam link hardware plugged in.

Anyone here utilize streaming to play games from your X1 on your PC or tablet? Any tips on getting the best stream quality?
Utilize a physical physical cable if possible. I run a Cat6 cable from my Xbox to my router, then another from my router to my PC. Works great and I can max out the stream settings.

I'd hardly say it is twice the tv. The TCL is better or equal in most categories when the two were tested. The biggest weak spot for the TCL is the sound... Which shouldn't be an issue for most people these days considering most people should have a sound system or at the very least a sound bar. The Samsung also doesn't support DV.

I’ve purchased Samsung TVs for the past 12 years, but the latest one was a very bad experience. The picture quality and sound were great, but the whole SmartHub interface was atrocious. Super laggy, apps would stop working with no easy way to kill it outside of restarting the TV, etc. It was a big enough issue for me to sell at a loss and go with something else.

I haven’t had the TCL long, but the Roku interface is by far superior to SmartHub. Maybe Samsung has improved SmartHub or gone to a different interface entirely, but my latest experience changed my loyalty.

Oh yeah! Who can forget a 3-bladed sword that could shoot the side blades?! May have to watch the RiffTrax.

Are all of the BC OG XBox games, games that were playable on 360 and digitally available? I was looking at the list and so far that seems to be the case. If so, Stubbs might actually happen.

I have the 2016 model but curved.

It's a great TV especially if you like to cast from your phone/tablet.
