Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I know many people complain about how 'horrible' Gamestop is, but honestly what major corporation isn't? To think that any big company is looking out for their employees or customers is being naive. Walmart treats their employees like crap. The few people I've know that worked at Target had tons of gripes about their practices. Best Buy, same thing. Toy's R Us, yep major complaints from employees as well. Heck, even Amazon was getting dumped on the last few months for their treatment of employees.

Couple different ways to stack the walking dead. 360 is BC, then Seasons 1,2, and Michonne, then lastly the complete collection had a separate list as well.

Edit: got Ninja'd. Also forgot Michonne
I like the Walking Dead games but I don't think I could play through them a second time. If you can make it through 3 times more power to you.

Gamestop is wonderful. Nowhere else in the world can you spend $60 and walk away with every game system and an infinite backlog. Dead serious. I hope they're around forever

Why would a private equity firm buy a company then close it? That would make no sense. They typically buy companies then gut the upper management, so is it the end of loop holes and gaming the system at GameStop? Yes potentially, but not the end of GameStop.
See: Toys R Us and I believe iHeartRadio.

4k 60fps raw direct footage of Nier that is out in a week! Can not wait!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x310Xv9xU-A

Sadly not getting a disc release. But for $50 you get the game at 4k (probably checkeboarded) and 60fps  on the X as well as all the DLC that was released on PS4 and PC. I'm sure it will go on sale down the road but I honestly can't wait.

Combining the themes of the last few posts with this one: I've been looking forward to playing this on X1X big time...but...there's not a chance I buy this digital until it's on sale for $20 or less, whereas if this was a physical release I'd be pre-ordering it & buying it at full price.

I buy plenty of games in digital format - but, only when they are *heavily* discounted. I'm far more careful about digital purchases since, in the US at least, we have essentially zero consumer protection & must rely on the "good graces" of digital storefronts for refunds on bad games. In the case of Steam, that can work out fairly well since hey have a pretty decent, iron-clad policy...but in the case of MS & Sony, not so much. MS customer service isn't too bad overall depending on whom you deal with & on what topic, but when it comes to digital refunds they make you feel like they're doing you a fuckin favor by refunding a shitty game & claim they limit "grace" refunds to "one per year".

Combine that fact with the generally sad state of "digital sale" prices & I pretty much only buy digital games when they are ultra cheap (in which case I don't usually care so much if I get burned)...&/or if I absolutely *know* the game is awesome & a long-term keeper.

I can't tell you how many times I've read comments from tons of digital buyers who regret buying game X/Y/Z for $50-$100+ at launch & hate themselves for it, muttering "never again" on forums, etc.... My motto is: never gonna happen, period.

So, while I appreciate the "juke box" convenience of digital & do plenty of double/triple dipping on games I already own on physical once the price drops low enough (say, less than $10-$15 for a game I really like/love) - I pretty much *never* buy digital releases at anything close to full retail. Not even one as highly anticipated as Nier: Automata. Not releasing on physical seems like leaving money on the table...but, hey, more power to 'em. I'll buy it a year from now when it's cheaper. No rush.

Cool story, bro.

I just bought a X1X a few days ago since it's $450 and even though I have a basic 1080p tv I really enjoy how nice some games look like Titanfall 2 and Forza 7. I'll get a 4KTV on Black Friday.

The only thing weird about that post is thinking that buying Nier: Automata is a gamble. I think it won many awards and many more hearts on PS4.
I have the game on PS4 and it's amazing. I was alluding to the wierdness of the physical games are better manisfesto he posted.

I agree, digital can be great but I can't pay $50-60 for a digital game, I'm barely willing to pay that much for physical games.

It's just a shame when a game people want only gets released that way, because I'm guessing others are less likely to buy them that way, and then publishers only look at sales numbers.

Physical games are more expensive to put out. I rather people get to play games like Nier even if digital is the only way.

I don't think it's a gamble. It's a personal call on how/what I value. Physical items hold more value for me. If there was a physical release I'd add it to my physical collection at launch price. Since it's digital only, I value that less. Simple as that. I know that more than likely I'll like the game. But I'm willing to pay more for physical releases of games I want to keep. I could just as easily call it "weird" that many people are willing to pre-order digital games at full price knowing full well most of them suck & they'll feel ripped off & hollow inside afterwards. But, instead I just call it stupid or crazy.... (not saying you do this...but a lot of people do, which baffles the mind...).

I'm totally the opposite. Having to get up to change games, and having to take up physical space in my house decreases the value of physical. Also on the Xbox having two licenses which allows both my son and I to both play the game off one copy is like getting 2 games for one. Which greatly increases the value of digital games for me.

Yup. Your voice of sanity & kindness is reassuring & appreciated.

On a side note: we ARE on CAG, right? People defending paying *more* for a game rather than less is always a bit of a head-scratcher on here....

Value is dictated by the buyer. It isn't simply playing more or less.

Like I said earlier a digital game in my house on Xbox is two licenses. One that my son can play and one that I can play. That means I'm essentially paying $30 per game at release.

I don't see it as being "opposite" since I appreciate both options for their pros & cons. I have a sizable physical collection on multiple generations of consoles (& PC). And like I alluded to in my "manifesto", I also dig the juke-box convenience of digital & have amassed a 500+ digital game collection on Steam & another 400+ digital game collection on Xbox. My guess is you don't own as many digital titles as I do, so I think you're misinterpreting my point or perhaps I wasnn't entirely clear.

I'm simply more willing to pay more for physical because it's a tangible product. And I have plenty of square footage & nice storage areas for game cases to be kept nice n tidy sight unseen. ;) In any case, great that we *usually* have a choice. Gamegirlpocket alluded to it being unfortunate that, in this case, we don't. I'm more likely to buy the game on PS4 now. And then pick it up ultra cheap if/when there's a deep digital sale in a year or two.

Exactly my point. Thanks for agreeing with me. :) My entire point is that I personally value physical more than digital. My comment that she is a voice of sanity was referring to assholes attacking people for having a different opinion or writing a long post about it.

We were making fun of the long post to argue something that doesn't need arguing. Thank you for agreeing that it was a long post. That was the joke all along. Try to keep up. Lol

Physical games are more expensive to put out. I rather people get to play games like Nier even if digital is the only way.

I agree with that 100%, I'd rather a port exist digitally than not at all. I just think that less people will pay $50 for a digital game, and worry that Square-Enix will see that and say, "See? These games don't sell well on Xbox!" when it may have more to do with distribution methods.

I see. Yeah and Square is known for doing that. Nier is such a good game and God knows Xbox needs Nier like experiences.

We were making fun of the long post to argue something that doesn't need arguing. Thank you for agreeing that it was a long post. That was the joke all along. Try to keep up. Lol

*sigh* You haven't really accomplished much here other than prove my point. If you think this - or forcing in a "LOL" at the end of your sentence - somehow makes you look smart -or- funny you're a tad offbase. You say you have kids but you're acting like one yourself. Sheesh. Grow up.

When I was younger I loved physical. I've just gotten to the point that digital better fits my lifestyle I guess. Yes choices are great. We should fight for more, not less.

If GameStop sells who do you guys think will take their place for video trades and stuff?

Exactly. I suppose my "manifesto" was just a long way 'round the bend method of using myself to illustrate this point. It sounds like there's one thing we can all agree on: Xbox definitely needs these kinds of games. But...not having a physical release is leaving money on the table & does seem to limit the upward sales potential of the re-release (which doesn't bode well for the Square Enix internal politics you allude to).

Nothing wrong with that. I'd say on this count we're definitely "opposites" in terms of life phases then. A few years back - in my "younger nomadic days" - when I was living in small apartments & condos...yeah, digital would've been a necessity if only because a large physical collection would have quickly overwhelmed my living spaces in small 1500-2000 sq ft homes. I still travel a fair amount for work, but now have a nice big home base on open land with plenty of storage (talking about "home base" makes me want to get back to playing State of Decay 2...hehe). I have the room to display & play a nice big physical collection properly (& keep it out of the way of the fiance' who would likely kill me otherwise). I totally get it though: without enough space, a physical collection can cause excess clutter & make a home feel chaotic. Digital is a good way to go to "simplify". I like having the best of both worlds. For me it usually boils down to the fact that I won't pay as much for a digital product. And I don't think I'm alone (despite there being shifts in the industry towards digital).

Edit: Re: Gamestop...it largely depends on who buys them out. If it was Bain Capital, I'd say chances are good GS would cease to exist. If Sycamore Partners buys them out, then there's a good chance they'll reorg & keep GS afloat in one form or another. Sycamore owns/operates Staples, for example (they were in a bidding war with Bain a while back...it was largely good Sycamore won that battle, for people who shop/work at Staples). Sycamore is on a bit of a shopping spree right now, trying to snap up various properties. So we'll see.

With xbox physical seems pointless, I do like my physical nintendo products tho.

I finally got sick of waiting for the FH3 Hoonigan Car Park to go on sale.

Blizzard Mountain, Hot Wheels, and their bundles have all been discounted at one point or more, but Hoonigan has been 6.99 since its release last August.

After 10 months, I figure they've forgotten about it so I pulled the trigger.  So when it goes on sale next week, you know who to thank.

Damn thanks for the insight on the gametop thing. I just read the news and had no idea what it meant. You seem to know about retail buyout and that stuff. Thanks for the info.

It's funny cause I have a 3000 sq ft house but with two kids it's hard to have place for my gaming stuff. I decided to sell a lot of my collection and go digital.

Unlikely. Sycamore Partners (SP) specializes in *reviving* ailing retail brands/companies. This is why the stock jumped: because anyone who knows jack shit about investments knows this fact. Most of the comments in here from people saying they want Gamestop to "burn to the ground", etc...are largely clueless about this fact. Having said that, there's no guarantee SP will actually pull the trigger on a buyout. They'll need to like what they see when they have a sit-down with Shane Kim & co & take a look at the books...feel reasonably confident they can turn things around. If anyone can do it, they can. As I alluded to in my earlier post, if an outfit like Bain Capital or, say, Cerberus Investments were to buy them out instead, well then that's a different story. Sycamore is showing interest because they believe, at least for now, that Gamestop can be turned around.

Yeah I'm all physical for Nintendo as well. Have zero trust in their digital network and game front.

Absolutely agree with this. I think I own ~20 Switch games at this point, all physical except 2 or 3 indies (which were purchased ultra cheap so they fall into the "don't care if I get burned" category). Zero chance I'll invest in Nintendo's digital ecosystem anytime soon.

Re: Xbox games...there's a little discussed "feature" with physical releases that I personally like a lot, which allows you to install the game off the disc & then if you, say, double-dip & buy the game digitally at a later time (or it hits GWG) this allows you to play the game *without having to re-download it* (& without the disc in the drive). Now, for some people this might not seem like a big deal. But, not having to re-download a 50-75GB file is really nice. Especially if I'm at my country house where my speeds don't (yet) match what I get at my home on the outskirts of Portland. This might seem like a no-brainer feature...but Sony still hasn't figured out a way to enable this despite it seeming like a simple problem to fix. If you buy physical & then buy the game digitally on PSN you have to download the game anyway even if it's already installed. PITA.

SK has only been at the helm for a few weeks, so I wonder if he's even acclimated to the job. I would vastly prefer GS to stay around (even under a new name and new management) because with Amazon slowly choking their Prime game discount to death and Best Buy dropping an anvil on the head of GCU, but those two points mean that GS will probably become less competitive if it does stay around. And I greatly enjoy having the mom and pop shops around, but the few near me aren't competitive at all and I think that if any out there ARE competitive that they are in the minority.

Let's see,the last digital game that I spent $80 or more on was Black ops 3 digital deluxe 2-3 years ago.Do I regret it?No because I played that game almost every day at that time and it was a helluva ride with it.

So my One X Scorpio edition was giving me issues this morning. The disc drive was failing to read any discs. After several reboots it started reading Xbox One discs, but not OG Xbox discs. Finally after a hard reboot and a 15 min wait it started reading OG discs again, but very slowly (I tried playing KOTOR and it was a no go, tried Battlefront II and that worked and while playing Battlefront I got a prompt saying I needed an update to play KOTOR). Is this the beginning of the end for my One X?

I don't wish ill on a company that has financed my gaming habit, but the headlines would have a Mass Effect meltdown if the second one bought them out.

99% of my Xbox stuff is digital, not a hard decision with console sharing cutting the cost in half
It's the limitations of game sharing that have me back to buying physical after spending most of this generation replacing my physical collection with digital.

So nothing changed during this generation that I'm aware of, so I guess I don't understand. If you're talking about something like you just started to think about the future, it doesn't seem dark like games ceasing to work in at least regard to Xbox and MS. If anything so many titles now are linked to online services that my digital copy and your disc copy will probably cease to stop working at the same time.

Last gen it was $10-$15 average for used games in my area. So, with promos for buying/reselling, they woud become very cheap.

This gen the average price for used games has gone up to $25-$30, so buying digital games on sale, especially coupled with gamesharing, is the best option for me as of now.
