To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.

I don't care if it's digital or physical. I'll pick the cheaper of the two. However I have been preferring digital lately because I'd prefer not to get up with a sleeping baby on me.

Regarding Gamestop, they doomed themselves when they tried to become Hot Topic But With Games. They should have leaned more towards becoming a service and import store.

 
I put in a xbox support ticket about not being able to buy 360 games with Microsoft credit. They told me to put get a friends xbox 360 or even to go to a gaming store and use their hardware to buy it lmfao...
Told them that was a security risk basically they are nuts

FYI, buying 360 content (games and DLC) on Xbox One with MS credit has not been possible since August 2015.

Thing is, MS doesn't considers it a "problem". That's why we've never had a proper "solution". I think it has to do with the way the Xbox Store is structured in contrast to the 360 marketplace.

I think that is a pretty safe assumption. They just don't care to fix it.

Whatever happened with to the ability to return digital games in a short period of time? I assume that is never going to happen?

My situation changed. I started gamesharing with my son at his mother's house and I have 2 systems in my home. Obviously sharing means I can't access my digital library simultaneously on both systems in my home, a limitation that doesn't exist with physical copies.
 
Now I'm thinking I might actually jump on Nier at launch. The only retail Xbox games I want for the rest of the year seem to be Tomb Raider, Soul Calibur, and Red Dead. It's a bummer that we aren't getting physical but I do kind of want to vote with my wallet in hopes of getting more Japanese support, and I probably won't be doing that with Tales of Vespyria.

Something I'm not getting because this doesnt make sense... you can download your digital games to any xbox, and play them, by logging in with your profile.

I think the problem isn't him playing between the multiple consoles at home, it's his son travelling between mom and dads when dad owns all the licenses and the console at mom's is set as the "home" console. When his son comes over and they each try to play on one of the two consoles his son doesn't own the licenses so he can't just log in and play at dad's. I think that's how game sharing works, could be wrong, sorry if I am.

Would have to buy at least 2 copies of every game either way, so don't know why it would be a benefit having physical over digital.

 
Yeah I still don't see how physical fixes his problem. He still has to buy 2 copies.

The problem is you can only share with one system and only sign in on one console at a time. That means, at most, only 2 systems have access to my digital library at the same time. If I pulled 3 games off the shelf, I can play them on 3 different systems at the same time.

You're still going to need 3 different log ins to do that with the physical, what you're saying doesn't compute in fact you could easily get away going this route with 2 digital copies.

I'm just reading this and thinking, wait you just need one digital copy that's shared as it is now, and a physical or digital copy. That's two copies total.

There's no reason to buy 3 copies. I'd just invest in a carrying case and have the primary console brought over for game night.
