Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

All the sales and deals on Destiny 2 really have me wondering why the base game at least isn’t free to play at this point. The way they push the expansions and Eververse (at least how much it was when I stopped playing initially) I’m sure they would still make some money on it. Also, the $40/$70 model they have for the year 2 stuff is kinda garbage. I’ll wait until the Rise of Iron-like complete edition on sale in another year and a half.
Activision seems overly committed to a typical retail/console business model, and its to the game's detriment. Base game isn't free-to-play for the same reason D1 never went free, and the same reason D1 content isn't available in D2. I really wish Bungie was doing it like WoW, where every quest and story element was available, and they just keep adding content. They spent so much time tuning the raids in D1, and then ask players to move onto a brand-new, vanilla game.

It's stupid. Especially when considering that TTK finally hit that sweet spot with the game feeling balanced, and then D2 abandoned a lot of that fine-tuning and balancing (that seems to be the most common critique, anyway, since I haven't played Destiny 2 yet).

Just stop playing Destiny and thank me later, I've wasted a lot of time on some grinds in gaming but one of the ones I regret is Destiny 1 and it was literally for nothing

Very good point. I mean, back when the original “10 year plan” story cane out I was in the group that fell for the idea that it was going to be like WoW, how each expansion would make the game world bigger and better, still bringing along some of the old but making way for the new. Like you said, the way they had D1 after TTK and especially by the end of life with Rise of Iron, it was in such a good place that an expansion seemed natural, but the whole yearly release nonsense took over. I wish they had gotten more input from the Blizzard part instead of the Activision part. Oh well.

Apparently the D1 engine was really cumbersome, in part due to accommodating last gen, so there was a push to start fresh. They still could have ported the old content to the new engine, and should have. The time/effort would have paid off in the long run. Since they don't charge a monthly sub, I'm sure Activision sees it as needing money up front vs not having revenue and developing content. But then 2-3 years worth of content is obsolete and forgotten when the next entry comes out and players are encouraged to migrate, which sounds like a pretty awfu business strategy for a game like this anyway. Why have a 10 year plan if it resets every 3 years....?

Echotech83, you are the winner of Assassins Creed! I sent you over the code!
Hopefully the summer sale comes through with some goodies :whistle2:k
Thank you and glass_ghost for the code! I actually don’t own this one. This really brightens my day, my mom had open surgery this past weekend and had to go back to the ICU. So far she is ok, but was a hot mess Monday night. This thread has been a great distraction and these give aways have been great. Love this thread and my CAG bros and sisters. Keep sharing the love. Love y’all!!

So maybe Phil worked some of his magic on Sega, in a recent interview Yakuza on XBox doesn't seem outside of the realm of possibility despite being console exclusive to the PS4.

Choice quote:

“To be realistic towards what happened, Yakuza 1 & 2 for Wii U was a significant failure. But our goal is still to develop cross-platform as much as possible, and we know that it brings an extra audience, that it allows us to attract more people. That being said, when it comes to Switch, I am convinced that it would not be the ideal platform on which to develop Yakuza games. Maybe the public is not expecting that kind of game on Switch. They may be used to different games. It may not be the ideal platform. Regarding Xbox One, we could consider it, knowing that Xbox One users might be more likely to be interested in a game like Yakuza. That could be an option.”

Echotech83 I wish her a speedy recovery!

Who has time to play a brand new release here? I still have the first game in my backlog.
You forget that this is a FREE new release, which takes priority over anything you paid to add to your backlog.

I'm enjoying it. A lot like the first, and Left4Dead, but the levels seem more open and interesting. I was also surprised progress during the beta carried over, and it always puts you in a good mood to get a couple hundred gamerscore just for logging in.

Well, it is multiplayer game so might as well toss the first game into the trash pile and move on to #2.
That's what significant others are for, playing games nobody else will play with you because everyone is playing the sequel.. My girlfriend and I are currently working through the original Crackdown (Hey, I did beat it many years ago so it technically wasn't in my backlog, though the sequel is still in the backlog), Saints Row The Third, and we recently started playing Gears, we are now on the third installment. One day we will only play recent releases. Ha! At least we are working on a couple newer games, both The Division and Wildlands, so we aren't totally stuck in the past.

I think it's been free since 6/26/18 cuz I bought it then.
Store Parser picked it up tonight (looks like the prior free period ended on the 3rd) and I didn't have it. Though it could've been one of those cases where the web site doesn't properly show ownership.

For the racers out there, Ride 2 seems to be a good buy. About 3 hours of gameplay and the only negative I’ve found so far is the loading times. I’m playing on a S so the X might be better. However, plenty of bikes, classes, and tracks to choose from and nice physics. If you dig bikes and racing, don’t be like me and wait a year for this to go back on sale (but I did save $6 for waiting that year). Oh, and a bunch of free DLC of bike packs.

I believe it was free for around a week when Donken got it. I got an email today saying it was free for "phase two" of road to battlefield v with a second chance to pick up DLC for free.

Does Halo 3 ODST ever go on sale.  I know it's only $4.99 but I don't really want to buy digital since I prefer physical but it's the same price either way and the MCC add on has been enhanced. I have no rush to get it but I beat Halo 3 2 months ago and was told to play ODST before I play 4 so am wondering if it's ever cheaper than $4.99.

Dude... just buy it. There's a solid 25-40 hours of fun there depending on how much you like firefight.

If you’re talking about the 360 version, I know it was on sale sometime last year because I own it. I don’t think I’ve seen it on sale since.

I have the MCC for Xbox One and ODST is an add on that was remastered for it.

Is firefight an online multiplayer thing? I don't have gold if it is.

Finished Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons, was good but glad it is over controls were annoying me.

Going to play some Sherlock Holmes next. There are 2 Sherlock games:

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments and Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter.

Was thinking of playing Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter but have not played the previous one.

Do these games connect at all?

I don't recall them connecting but being the same developer and by nature of the IP some of the same characters. There are 2 different voice actors for Sherlock in those 2 games so even less of a feeling of connective tissue. I haven't tried Devil's Daughter much yet but enjoyed Crimes and Punishment a fair amount. Kind of a glorified hidden object game but it seems to review better than Devil's Daughter.

YMMV On Best Buy app I have an offer to get Destiny 2 for PS4 or X1 for $5.99 or $4.79 with GCU. Wasn't going to play it, but the price is right.

Ha well Overcooked wasn't really cooked that long, but only being on Game Pass for 3 months has to be the new record for shortest stay. Ultratron is actually a pretty great twin stick shooter since we've been talking about those so much.

https://www.trueachievements.com/n33542/five-titles-leaving-xbox-game-pass-on-july-31st-2018
Maybe it's going GWG? Since the new one is soon.

Saved you a click, these 5 are leaving:
- DiRT Rally
- Overcooked
- Pharaonic
- So Many Me
- Ultratron

I been hanging onto a free one month of game pass to try and I redeemed it this month. Unfortunately I hadn't had the time I wanted to to play the games I initially downloaded until yesterday and then I found out that bomber crew was being added to the service on day one. Man is that a fun but tense game. I played a few missions yesterday and I really enjoyed it. It is a cool strategy game.

I also downloaded Next Up Hero, JumpJet Rex, Kingdom New Lands and Human Fall Flat. Not sure if I will have the time to play all of these before my free month expires but I think I may just start using this service in the future on Xbox. I've always been a game buyer and I have a huge collection of games but yesterday I was convinced that game pass may just work for me even with my large backlog.

I wish i would have used my free trial earlier but there was not that many games on the service that really interested me. I would have bought a six month subscription when it was on sale. Anyway I will be saving up some bing point for another free month and be on the lookout for some deals for game pass in the future.

I really enjoyed Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments when it was GWG a while back. Went on to 1000/1000 it and have been excited to try Devil's Daughter if it goes GWG in the future. If you like the Sherlock Holmes mythos and storytelling, I'd recommend starting with the 2nd one first

I don't think they're connected other than loosely since the same characters but Devil's Daughter completely revamped Watson, now it's basically Jude Law from the films

YMMV On Best Buy app I have an offer to get Destiny 2 for PS4 or X1 for $5.99 or $4.79 with GCU. Wasn't going to play it, but the price is right.
Mine arrived yesterday, and the free blueprint art thing of one of the exotic weapons is pretty nice in terms of quality. The box they sent it in, though, was so big that I'm pretty sure they spent more on shipping than I did on the game. They really want to get rid of them! Likely ahead of a new retail edition w/ all the expansions ahead of the big one in September.

Not sure if it's a new deal but definitive recore is $10 on Amazon but it's an add on item. Won't be picking it up because I plan on trying out gamepass soon.

I usually pick up from best buy but one time I had to have a $500 camera lens delivered to me. They put the 4" x 6" camera lens box in a 12" x 18" box with a SINGLE piece of small bubble wrap.

Amazon will pull that sometimes too because of how things work in their warehouses. I've received vinyl records and comic books in boxes that are way too big.

Looks like a $15 price drop on the Destiny 2 expansion pass to $19.99. Considering this after ordering the game on the cheap from Best Buy (Thanks to whoever pointed that out). Anyone have any thoughts on whether the pass is worth $20?
I looked at this last night through the Xbox. On the first tile it showed $19.99 but after clicking on it to bring it up the price was still showing $35 on the screen to actually buy it.

Seems like BC has been dead on Thursdays again. It's been a slow road to 25%. (Currently 23% games BC if your counting XBLA and 360 titles together) BC is dead again.

But didn't they just add the Overlords two days ago? Please don't do anything to summon "him".

I picked up a copy of Rogue Stormers recently. I had never heard of it, but price was right - It’s a pretty great twin stick / rogue-like / side scrolling - Metroid-ish shooter. Seems like online community is dead, but still works for online coop with friends.
