Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

You can't buy games with achievements though. You can buy them with rewards and quests though.
Imagine if that was a thing though...buying games with Gamerscore - 100,000 Gamerscore gets you a free $60 game, 50,000 Gamerscore gets you a $19.99 game, 5,000 Gamerscore gets you Horse Armor, etc. I'd be a fan of that.

Yeap, beating MK2 as player 1 was very difficult with most characters in the arcade version. As player 2 on the other side, is much easier up until you reach Kintaro.
I remember as a kid there was this one guy using katana to elevate kintaro/shao Kahn with the fan then do that super man like punch and repeat.

Sony copying Game Pass for PS Now sure is a good idea. So much for their logic for not doing EA Access though.
Do I remember you liking metal/punk/hardcore correctly? If so, armageddon in Harvard square is good if you like vinyl.

Replayd was my go to for used games while in college but haven't lived over there in years. They usually have a decent selection when I see them at pax. It's a bit out of the way from the main tourist areas if that's what you're doing, wouldn't go all the way there unless you're going to a show or something nearby.

I haven't been yet but hear good things about A4cade in cambridge. It's a barcade type place.
Yep, grew up on it, still go to shows when they don't interfere with work. I love vinyl but it would be hard to transport records back on this trip so I probably shouldn't tempt myself.

Has anyone played a recently released game called Wailing Heights? I'm getting in the Halloween mood and might need a dorky monster rock band game in my life.

Gamers chasing rewards, quests, and livestreams. I got better games to play than that BS.

With achievements, you're at least playing the damn game.
Ha I'm about 1000 points away from another $25 card since the Hot Deals haven't switched yet this month, of course it will happen right before I get it.

You would get "points" for increasing your gamerscore for a brief bit in the Old Xbox Rewards program. I want to say it was in 1000 achievement point increments? I think that was something like 6 months before they scrapped the program entirely. It's kind of funny how Xbox Rewards was a complete clusterfuck and now that they are doing these "Missions" in MS Rewards it's back to being a complete clusterfuck.

So I got a msg from Xbox saying here is your Deadpool movie token as promised. Trying to figure out what I did to get it. Game pass, Microsoft rewards? Has anyone got a msg like this? Driving me crazy trying to remember what it’s from. Thanks

Finished up Yoku's island express, I like the idea of the game way more then the actual game, traveling around is super tedious, and the fast travel that you eventually unlock helps, but doesn't solve the problem, probably not going back to 100%

I got the Deadpool code as well, no idea what Quest I finished for it.

Also, as someone who thinks the Playstation 1 is one of the worst mainstream consoles (besides the Wii) there is still an incredible amount of great titles on it. Tactics Ogre, Final fantasy tactics, Persona 2 EP, Front Mission III, Vagrant Story, Rising Zan, Strider 2, Tenchu, Resident evil 1 & 2, Silent Bomber,  Tecmo Deception 1 & 2 (fuck the new one on PS4, that shit is garabage) etc ,etc etc. I don't have too much of a problem with dated graphics as long as the craftsmanship and design is solid and the game plays well enough with mininal load times.

Speaking of which, Legacy of Kain Blood Omen needs an HD remake baaaaaad. I've always wanted to love this game but the loading makes it unplayable.

I don't remember points being boosted from GS but there definitely was a small gem reward for every 1K

I Got Deadpool...when it came out on blu-ray with digital code. Then I got it again for free with Deadpool 2 from San Diego Comic Con promo and it's also a part of Movies Anywhere. I Didn't get Deadpool from Microsoft like everyone else though. MICROSOFT IS THE WORST COMPANY EVER! WHERE'S MY DEADPOOL???

Playing Bomberman R because it is free for the weekend and there are characters that you can unlock with coins that you get in the game. One of the characters is WWE Wrestler Xavier Woods, was not expecting that lol.

To add on to Playstation Day, they are now letting you download PS4 and PS2 games directly to your console instead of just streaming with the PSnow service. Since I recently picked one up this summer for God of War and Spiderman this makes it much more of an intriguing offer.

edit: I guess PS3 is the bulk of the offerings and that's still streaming only, so a half step in the right direction
A look at Wikipedia says close to 200 games are PS4, but most of them are indie or several years old. Even the first-party stuff is all pretty much from the first year of the system, Until Dawn, Killzone, Bloodborne. I'm not finding an easy place to see price but it looks like it's $100 for a year, but monthly is $20. Confusingly, not every game that is using the PSNow ability to stream is part of the subscription service, though it seems like it's mostly PS3 games that aren't there.

The option to install is a huge improvement, if you pay yearly it almost could come in the realm of passable compared to GamePass with this change. That said, I don't know how often games are added or removed, and the lack of current or even current-ish stuff hurts. I don't see why they didn't do this to begin with, it has to be cheaper than the upkeep of the servers and hardware that run the streaming service. Just another case of Sony copying ideas they couldn't come up with themselves, like PSPro supersampling for 1080 TVs, or the PS1 Classic.

Deadpool the movie.

My hunch is that the free Deadpool movie is from completing a Gold Live quest from August.  I remember there were quite a few quests and I didn't bother with most of them because I thought they were lame or too time consuming.  There was one (I think it might've been the last one) that was super easy and didn't require going out of the way to complete.  I completed that one.  I got a free Deadpool code.  I'm assuming the two are related.  (Definitely not a Game Pass quest because I didn't have GP in August.)

I think that was the only quest I completed in August, too, so you're prob right.

still haven't gotten anything yet and I completed 2 or 3 quests. New quests don't look bad 30 minutes of trove, 30 minutes of crossout  forget what the third quest was

They have a pirate quiz on ms rewards that said +70 earlier now it’s +10 but won’t register as completed for me either way, they really need to get their shit together.

I got a response about the buggy Points Crusader quest. They closed my ticket because they are waiting for my response to my first ticket. You know, the one I responded to within 30 minutes of receiving, and then again the next day, which was a week ago now. I'm not holding my breath on it getting fixed, which means I'm missing out on a lot of rewards. I'm not happy, and I'm especially not happy that MS is proving just how incompetent their support is, but won't fucking fix it.

I'm going to be legit shocked if this is true.

And turns out true'ish? To a less painful extent.

I'm guessing Wolf Among Us 2 maybe taking longer now if it even happens at all.

Site is down for me. Text from Reddit:

Telltale Games, the studio behind games like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us appears to be closing its doors, according to social media posts from multiple developers previously employed that the company.

Gamasutra has reached out to Telltale Games for more details on the situation, but posts from developers on Twitter and Facebook, both private and public, seem to indicate that the studio is shutting is shutting down or experiencing large-scale layoffs. This story will be updated following the studio's reply.

If you or someone you know has been affected by this closure, you can email Gamasutra to share your story confidentially.
https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/21/17888162/telltale-games-layoffs-the-walking-dead

Another article, says they aren't shutting down, but had massive layoffs.

Telltale Games, creators of episodic adventure games like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Batman: The Enemy Within, laid off a large number of its staff today. The company will retain a small team of around 25.

They've had a ton of internal issues, and were spreading themselves too thin for too long. This is a big cut down but I think at least season 1 was made with a team of about this size. Guess we wait for a press release with the plan now.

I agree, they seemed to be working on way too many projects at once. Interesting that there's been no official announcement, hopefully that's a sign that it's massive layoffs and not fully closing. I enjoyed the stories that they told, it will be a bummer to see them go if they do.

So it sounds like Walking Dead Final Season will be their last project and once that's done they're closing up shop. So no Wolf Among Us or Stranger Things. I'm eager to see the write ups in the coming weeks of how they mismanaged things this bad with so many franchises under their belt.

It's disappointing that they squandered the potential they showed the first season of Walking Dead. Especially with the past reports that it was shit-tier management the drove much of the original talent away.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/3/20/17130056/telltale-games-developer-layoffs-toxic-video-game-industry

Even without that, they clearly took on too many projects at once, and quality suffered. At the end of the day I think their only stand out games ended up being the first two seasons of Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales from the Borderlands. Not a terrible track record but out of a dozen or so projects it's not great.

the problem is cheap people who didnt buy enough telltale games and not enough marketing/pr. like barely anyone knows the walking dead collection is a remaster thats pretty amazing.

i wonder if microsoft considers buying them. cant be too expensive and would add a lot of content if theres good licensing contracts telltale made.

They have a pirate quiz on ms rewards that said +70 earlier now it’s +10 but won’t register as completed for me either way, they really need to get their shit together.
It actually had both points on mine - 70 in the upper part of the panel and 20 in the lower and I didnt get either added.

is this rewards stuff really worth it? 70 points is like about $0.05 right? Wouldnt you make more money by focusing your attention on something productive every day for 5 minutes instead? and maybe working like an hour a month? that would be about $15 and probably more than rewards will give you? just saying....
