Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Some of you may be distracted by your FH4's and your MM11's, but don't let them hide the real gem that was released today:

PIZZA TITAN ULTRA!!!!!

If you've ever thought to yourself, "If I had a Gundam, how many pizzas could I deliver?", you should check it out. (BTW, the answer is all of them)

All jokes aside, this looks like a ridiculous fun game. Will probably wait for a sale to pick it up, but who knows, my patience may not last that long.
i was thinking of getting that game

Sparrowhawk Pack download for Rise of the Tomb Raider - I too already have the season pass.
WV99H-??KF2-WHV6G-YK2JQ-QVGGZ.

?? = protagonist of GTA: San Andreas :)

Mega Man 11 is really, really fucking good. A few rage-inducing moments, the levels are a bit longer than past games and it can make you let your guard down. You acquire bolts easily, though, and can buy as many 1-ups and E-tanks as you like, if you care to, at least on Normal.

For real, though. I'm surprised they aren't charging $40, it's very easy to recommend at $30.
I completely suck at all things Mega Man but read this one does have some lower difficulty options. That said I played the demo and was really turned off by the immediate character switching so still not sure. I may have to give the demo another try. I would love a traditional MM game with just far lower difficulty. :)

The CG looks cool enough, but the idea of doing a Venom film completely devoid of anything even tangentially related to Spider-Man feels so pointless.

Do you find Mega Man 11 to be a short game? The Kotaku reviewer beat it in only three hours.

What is "immediate character switching"? I'm playing the demo as if it's a regular Megaman game so I'm not using those two special weapon abilities. I do, however, use the slow down mechanic a couple of times.

Call me old fashioned, but 3 hours to finish a game is a long time. I'm of the mindset where "short" is under an hour (aka most NES games).

Well, maybe I was playing it wrong... I’ll have to give it another shot. Actually what I meant to say was that I was immediately turned off by the character switching. Not that the character switching was immediate.

Those hourly Forzathon challenges are really fun. They're pretty much just Burnout Paradise's multiplayer condensed down to 15 minute chunks. They also give pretty good rewards. Especially if you have that one house that gives you double the Forzathon currency.

The rewards app on xbox has a new gamepass punch card.

Gamepass Punch Card (3,000 points) Runs from October 2nd - 16th.

  • Activate punch card
  • Unlock an achievement in one of the following games : Halo: MCC, Quantum Break, Onrush, Aven Colony, Shadow Warrior 1, Sky-force reloaded, Manuel Samuel, Snake Pass, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams or Innerspace.
  • Unlock an achievement in any other Gamepass game.

Also the October Survey is up for 150pts.

Lastly it looks like MS gift cards are restocked.

Stupid question but I haven’t used the rewards app and am not seeing the GamePass punch card. Is there a way to get to it?

Done all three steps, but only step one shows a check mark...are all three supposed to be updated?
It’ll take at least 48 hours for the achievement tasks to update. With how things have been going lately with rewards it’ll probably take a bit longer than that.

So - when they were on the NES, the intention was to make a game that was fun to play and replay over and over, so the basic mechanics were really simple and satisfying. Mega Man II can be beat in 45 minutes if you never die and memorize the levels, for example, but it's still fun. Mega Man X can be finished in 90-120 minutes once you have beaten it once before.

Mega Man 11 definitely has it's retro roots in the sense that, a seasoned player will probably finish the game in 3-4 hours unless you are being kind of leisurely with it. There are multiple difficulties, though, a hard mode (Superhero) which unlocks after beating on Normal, a bunch of achievements to challenge players to ignore upgrades, etc. along with a Challenge Mode. So there's a lot to do.

Also, much like the original games, the core gameplay is so satisfying that it has a lot of replayability, and I think I'm more likely to replay it more since I could play through it in a long afternoon.

Still not sure what you mean. The demo has two powers available to Mega Man at the start, but there's no character switching. In every game before it, his colors would change based on what weapons were equipped, but in this game, is appearance changes. This is actually something Kitamura wanted to do way back in the original Mega Man but it was too complicated on the NES. Pretty cool to see it done here.

That’s what I meant was the weapon switching. The appearance change makes it seem like a character change. Have to understand that I have very little history with MM. I have played a little of the collections but was never good at them so didn’t really keep at them. And the fact that the weapon switching is mapped to triggers that I initially thought would be to shoot caught me off guard. I see now that you can remap the controls.

Also, I take it no way to aim to shoot?

Sorry, tribulations of a MM noob. :)

From one of the summer ones probably cause I didn’t do any of those and I didn’t get the dlc lol
The ROTR gamepass reward was supposed to be one of the DLC packs which includes a level so I hope it's from an earlier quest. I haven't gotten any rewards from any summer quests yet.

Yes, that all makes more sense now. Without any reference I can see how it looks like you switched characters ala Castlevania 3 and not just powers.

The series has mostly maintained the core basic gameplay of the NES (a d-pad and two primary buttons, lots of tricky jumping and shooting), and Mega Man has always had one movement speed and one direction to shoot - forward. A lot of the challenge and fun comes from lining up shots with enemy placement, etc. Also, this game and it's predecessors (esp. on the NES) have always had very responsive controls, along with being simple by design, making it so that when you die or fuck up, it's probably your fault and not a result of bad controls or sloppy design.

As you unlock more boss weapons (one for each of the 8 stages), new weapons will give you all kinds of range. One of the things I'm loving about MM11 is that the new weapons are all very unique and all have different applications that are actually useful. Volt Man's weapon (in the demo) can only be shot up or down, but the downward shot travels along the ground. Block Man's weapon makes blocks fall from the sky, which is really essential for some of the enemy placements in other levels.

Re: buttons - the SNES games gave us the ability to switch between weapons with the shoulder buttons, a change which has stuck. For some bosses, you have to shoot so fast that the idea of using a shoulder or trigger button to shoot makes my head spin.

You might fire up a game like Mega Man 4 (on an emulator, on the Legacy Collection, whatevs) and see if you like the core gameplay. MM11 has a modern look and feel, but it's old-school roots are always showing.

Thanks was waiting for a deal on a digital code for this.
I’m debating on digital. Noticed that Best Buy still gives you a $10 reward cert for digital preorder. May go that route since it will work out a little cheaper and also earn points towards other reward certs.

Just deciding on whether it’s worth $12 more than physical (still have GCU).

This applies to probably an extremely narrow group of people that probably won't see this, but does anyone here ever buy games on Xbox.com with Paypal Credit? I use it when I'm between checks saving up for something and a sale hits. Suddenly, even though I'm selecting Paypal Credit when I check out, Paypal uses my bank account to pay for the game. This only seems to be an issue on Xbox.com since I can use it anywhere else. I went ahead and cancelled my game pre-orders until I get it figured out.

I haven't tried using it on my Xbox, I'll try that later tonight with something cheap, like a Rock Band song or something. I know there's been times where I select Paypal on my Xbox and end up using Paypal Credit by accident because I forgot it was set up as my default Paypal paying method.

I was thinking of doing this with fallout 76. Spend an extra twelve and then I can install it on two systems and share it with my wife to play together

After my GCU dies and if they’re still doing $10 preorder bonuses on digital, I’ll probably always be doing it (for games I want on release day).

Edit: no sales tax for me on digital via Best Buy so decided to go for it (~$9.50 difference).

I had the same issue a few weeks ago

This is what i've been doing even though it goes against every fiber of my cheap existence. I have 3 kids who play and myself so it becomes easier to justify. It kills me to lose the ability to trade-in a game, so I'm only doing it for games I know we'll really want and will want to keep. Stuff like Red Dead 2 is a no brainer.

Places like Rakuten.com consistently have 15% off coupons which you can use on Xbox credit so that's a nice way to reduce the cost. Other "questionable" sites like nokeys.com have it for up to 20% off sometimes if you're willing to gamble.

Most likely you probably had your bank account as the default when you set it up on your xbox account.
When you connect Paypal to Xbox, it takes a "snapshot" of your account at that time and MS gets a "validation certificate" that they keep connected to your account.
I had an account that I closed and removed from Paypay and MS was still trying to bill it.
I had to remove PayPal from Xbox and reconnect to get a new certificate for it to bill the correct account.

Who’s ready for the “Presidential Alert” on your cell phones in under a couple hours? I turned my “Government Alerts” on the Notifications Settings on one of my phones just to see what happens.

Just looked it up, the idea is decent but it seems like it would make more sense by region instead of nationwide. I guess if we get a Fallout level nuclear war we'll know we're dying a few minutes earlier.

I listen to a podcast with a Japanese resident on it, and he was talking about the alert system they have for their phones that was giving out warnings during the recent tsunami. Though maybe he was saying it was nationwide but telling what regions were affected.

Yesterday my boss sent out an email about this. So people wouldn't freakout. 1 or 2 mins later we get tornado warning text alerts. So they can send other alerts by region or area. I assume they could with presidential alerts too. Supposedly it is kept in a queue for about 30 mins. So I am turning my phone off till 3pm Eastern. Enough others will go off I don't need mine to be blaring in my ear too.

I, for one, look forward to my call from the president. It will be an honor. Kind of like after winning the Superbowl...

This one isn't from him really. And it is to everyone with a cell phone (or broadcast/cable/satellite TV). So not much of an exclusive club.

Is this really just for cellphones and TV? Is there no alert system for landline phones? RIP those people then...
