Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

So it's kind of hard to dig through but the RPGcodex forums have been crunching some numbers that Fig put out a couple days ago regarding Obsidian's newest game, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Basically they had to disclose numbers due to the investor gimmick the site uses, and people were able to extrapolate that into some rough sales numbers. It seems to have sold somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 to people after launch on Steam, on top of the people who backed it. This number is significantly lower than the first game in a comparable time, which is not generally how video games sale numbers go.

It doesn't really mean anything by itself, but it does seems like it could push the owners closer to a deal with Microsoft.
To be honest I don't think the first game would have done as well as it did if the genre wasn't horribly starved when it released.

In honor of using our freedom and voting, I'm going to give away one free digital copy of fuck A Legend Reborn! All you have to do is like this post and I'll pick someone from the pool of likes. The cut off time is 8:00pm tomorrow.

Great Wall of Text.

I'm on an achievement kick and need to vent after getting pissed at Neo Geo AI bullshit.

ACA Neo Games are weird because they don't take long to 1000/1000 but goddamn do they make you work for it. I finished Aggressors of Dark Combat and 3 Count Bout and I never want to see these fucking games again. Initial impressions were great. The graphics have amazing spritework and I'm thrilled to play these games but that only last for about an hour or so. Once you start digging a little deeper, the classic bullshit SNK AI becomes apparent and the games just aren't fun anymore. Unlike something like say, Art of Fighting 2, where every character suffers from SNK boss syndrome and the AI is laughable with it's input reading and hits you with the most precise strikes, there is at least some level of control. You can corner the AI, you can do frame traps, tick throws, limit thier movement, etc. In ADK, 3 Count and Savage Reign, the unique movement options just makes it frustrating because they give the AI several ways to runaway after a knockdown.

You can't lock the AI down, they will ALWAYS jump into the background, or sidestep or roll, or whatever. 3 Count Bount pissed me off to no end with this because after the 3rd fight the AI WILL dodge every fucking single basic attack and they ALWAYS win grapples (and I cheated by turning on the turbo functions in game AND the turbo on my arcade stick!!). Combine that with the fact so many moves you can use to knock them down are risky because they recover BEFORE YOU DO and it was a frustrating 2 hours of resarting until I eventually found an exploit that (barely) worked.

ACA Neo Geo Ghost Pilot is supposed to have unlimited continues but when I died it gave me a game over and went back to the main menu?!!! WTF! I really don't wanna play it again, it's mediocre at best. Magical Drop II and III are fantastic games but the achievements are brutal. I've been trying on and off for months and I still can't 100% them. Outsde of ACA Neo Geo Puzzld, these are the hardest ones to get achievements from.

Also, there is a special place in hell for the AI in super sidekicks. I gave up trying to get the last achievement on Hi score mode. I'll forever be haunted at the 11/12  score on my gamercard.

Inspired by Gamegirlpocket's post on the Dead Rising games, I looked at the achievements I was missing from Dead Rising 3 and the only ones I'm missing are from the final DLC.....the ones you can only get from multiplayer.....and nobody plays it anymore. :/

Haunted Halloween '86 is a free 1000/1000. It's pretty much just a step up from Avatar: The Burning Earth in terms of difficulty and it's actually a decent game.

Mega Man 11 is a fantastic game and a surprisingly easy 800 or so gamerscore. The only troublesome ones are finishing the game in under an hour and the Dr Light Trials.

I've been trying to finish Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 but man, it's such a slog. X5 is decent but has a luck based achievement I can't get. X6 wasn't too much of a hassle but I played enough of that game to know what I was getting into. And X7.....yeah. I finish 1 stage (making sure I listen to every conversation and rescuing all the reploids) and I'm done with the game for a month.

Capcom BELT ACTION (aka Capcom Beat em up Collection) is an easy 1000/1000 and a great collection brawlers.

Hover: Revolt of Gamers - This game is a disaster imo. I got the tutorial achievement easily enough but just can't force myself to play enough to get the rest.

Walking Dead Collection - This should be extremely easy but I'm tired of replaying the Walking Dead games so I guess I gotta play a little at a time.

Dead Island DE - There is one area, ONE fuckING AREA that is stopping me from 1000/1000 this game. I boot up this game and run around the map for a couple of hours until I get bored. One day this thing has to pop.

State of Decay 2: Loved the first game enough to get 100% on both X1 and 360, but this game just takes everything good about the first and makes it more tedious. The DLC added anachievement for surviving 300+ waves......great. I think I'm just going to forget this game and let it get buried on my gamercard.

Red Dead Redemption 2: I only put 5 minutes into this game. I don't think I'm making it to 1000/1000.

Brawhalla - Grindy, free 2 play trash. I only have myself to blame for this.

Soul Calibur 6 - Bought the game at launch, still can't connect to online, so that's good. Libra of Souls has several achievements attached to it and has long load times and the most throwaway, story ever in a video game. And it requires 2 playthroughs. Online achievements are easy, the only ones that require effort are winning 5 ranked and 5 casual matches and anyone can do that, no matter what your skill level is. Decent game but Namco didn't give a fuck and it shows.

Disney Afternoon Collection: I've reported several times over the past year that this game has an annoying glitch basically adds a ton of input lag and stutter to the game. Alas, even the mighty Xbox One X gave me this trouble. Fantastic collection of old games, but when the glitch kicks in it becomes unplayable.
The achievements aren't hard either except for finishing Tail Spin on 1 credit, but that probably has more to do with me not wanting to invest any real time learning that game than anything.

Thanks for reading! CAG for life!!

That was indeed a great wall of text. Samuari Shodown is currently drawing my ire as far as the ACA games go. Very rewarding read.
Thanks for A+. ;).

Edit:

The rest of those are surely gone by now, Thanks for Battle High 2 A+. Thought for sure it was going to be a picture of Chris Pine's Junk (because of Bloomy) but I clicked anyway and was not disappointed.

To be honest I don't think the first game would have done as well as it did if the genre wasn't horribly starved when it released.
Yeah, I definitely see why the CRPG genre kind of faded away. There are certainly cool things it can let you do, and I feel like Pillars leans into them about as hard as possible, but even with all the ultra deep lore I can see many players having a hard time getting immersed with the super zoomed out camera and so many modern games giving a more personal view for conversations. Even the old Fallout games had this kind of conversation view for important NPCs. At least the Divinity games are trying to innovate the genre, Obsidian seemed like they were relying entirely on writing.

I'm not sure exactly what I would want from a Microsoft owned Obsidian, but I know something closer to their early output up until New Vegas is what's coming to mind.

My only advice is to try mixing up your internet connection. I've mostly been playing while on a wired connection, but when I moved my console for a few hours the other day I was on wi-fi and Soul Calibur wasn't able to connect any more while other games still worked. If you are able to connect to network but glitch out when matchmaking, apparently Bamco has been emailing this as a temporary workaround.

“A temporary workaround provided to us by the users indicating that pressing the Xbox button on your controller just after accepting a match (in between the loading to character select) allows you to reach the character select screen (when you hear the music, you can press the button to close the dashboard). To our knowledge, this only applies to Player Matches/Lobbies and not Ranked.”

At this point I think they're either waiting to do one big patch alongside 2B's release, trying to figure out the PC hacking issues first, or possibly waiting for exploits to be found. I kind of think PC is lower on the totem pole just because the game likely sold more on consoles, and there are some pretty rookie mistakes there. Apparently the recent 6 gig PC patch was to ban players, meaning they literately had a list of Steam IDs that were banned added in a text file that needed to be downloaded by ALL owners of the game. Because this file is stored locally, said banned players were able to figure this out within 10 minutes and un-ban themselves. I can't find the post now but one of the guys that cheated the leaderboards to spite someone else that hacked the leaderboards detailed all that on Reddit. They also figured out how to use Inferno online. Not to mention some of the ridiculous CaS hacking making your character hidden by giant objects, or even covering the entire screen so nothing at all can be seen.

For all players, there are a couple of major glitches that were found in the last few days. First, an old glitch from SCV was discovered to be working, basically spamming the right movement when Astaroth is in his Critical Edge animation can teleport you out of what should be a guaranteed hit. Then just yesterday someone figured out Voldo can ALWAYS use his Soul Charge or Critical Edge without meter. He just has has to be in his reverse stance then move in a certain way it it always can activate.

Looking at the comments on those videos apparently Tira can use Soul Charge with only half a bar as well.

I almost wonder if that deal would have more of an impact on their push on the PC side of things, such as PC Game Pass being announced in that earnings call a few weeks back. Dream world they would be making KOTOR III with a bigger bank roll and no hard release date cutoff but there is still 5 years left for the EA license as it stands right now.

ok i was wondering cuz i got a xbox live message about it
Yeah been getting those messages for EA Access for a bit now. I'm sure there has been enough Customer Service cases where people didn't close their game out and lost their 10 hour trial period. The worst one for me is the game "Descenders" which is in game preview and gives you a 1 hour trial. Over the course of several months, I've lost the entire 1 hour trial time just trying to load the game and have it get past the title screen when I check back once in awhile to see if it's been fixed. Way to sell your product.

With EA totally bungling the Star Wars deal and seemingly having no plans for any sort of RPG it probably isn't out of the question for one to come up after it's over. A while ago Obsidian had pitches for both a KotOR III and a game set during the original trilogy so they could at least be in the minds of whoever is in charge at Disney. Xbox exclusivity would could be a deal breaker, but maybe not seeing as Spider-Man just happened.

My next thought is who else could/would do it. I think a lot of publishers would jump at the chance, but looking at the major RPG devs I don't know who is viable. Out of the mainstream western RPG devs these are who are coming to mind.

Bioware - seems to not be an option

CD Projekt Red - doubt they'll work with IP they don't have full control over, they'll likely be working on a Cyberpunk sequel around that time.

Bethesda - Their own IP only

Eidos Montreal - A possibility, especially if the Square-Enix Marvel deal does well

Beyond that, we're looking at CRPG developers like Larian Studios or inXile Entertainment (L O L). Next on the list would be Japanese teams, which certainly could be interesting but would be pretty much unprecedented. The only official Japanese Star Wars game related thing coming to mind was Soul Calibur IV's 3 guest characters.

Final option would either be a new studio created for this purpose, or a studio that isn't big on RPGs now rising in popularity in the next few years. Maybe Avalance making the Harry Potter game or something like that.

Regardless, if we ever do get another big Star Wars RPG, at this point it's either going to be original or a reboot of KotOR. I think SWtOR needs to die too.

well i must have played it wrong

i played the games back to back and i just remember using the plasma cutter, stomp the necromorph, repeat
The plasma cutter was kinda designed to be like that with its versatility. You CAN play the first two using only the starter weapon (it would be more difficult for 2) but I enjoy using as many weapons as possible in most games. In the first game the PC was overpowered and only a couple other weapons were worth using. There's even an achievement for only using the PC. For D2 I'd say there was 6-7 good weapons and that made the gameplay more interesting.

Humble Bundle just tweeted about XO18. Hopefully this means we'll finally see an Xbox bundle, but keep in mind that they also publish games, so it could be a new game announcment, or something like A Hat in Time coming to Game Pass.

https://twitter.com/humble/status/1060295281604886529?s=19

In other news, top comedy publisher Bluehole just announced prices for the previously discussed Harley and Joker skins for PUBG.

""Harley Quinn’s “Daddy’s Lil Monster” outfit, complete with “Good Night” baseball bat skins for the crowbar and machete can be purchased in a bundle for $24.99, while The Joker’s Night Club Suit bundle can be picked up for $19.99. Each bundle includes new hair and makeup options as well to complete the look of these two iconic characters.

These skins are only available for a limited time, so pick them up before January 30th!""

I get that they're copying Fortnite's skin costs, but those prices are pretty ridiculous in a game that is not free and has lootboxes.

Hopefully you all weren't too attached to a second season of Final Fantasy XV DLC....  :???:

"season" will now just be one more piece of content...and that's it.

Who does a stream to announce cancellations?  Weird.

I absolutely cannot wait for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Not because I give a shit about that game, but you've got to believe its going to be some kind of hot mess.

If it ever comes out.

As terribly skilled as Horizon 4 players are online, at least I don’t get rude messages for being on a losing team like I do in Gears.

A lot of people’s gamepass codes for the badlands completion are redeeming only 1 month lol.

Just when you think they couldn’t fuck it up any more.
Yikes.

One month of free Marvel Unlimited code (multiuse): MPQ2018

It's been around awhile so no idea how long it will last. I used a 2 cent month offer a few months ago and then cancelled and this worked for me so it's not limited to new accounts. Doubt it stacks onto current subscribers, but who knows?

Man, this stuff got cancelled because the director is leaving Square-Enix. He must have been sick of the bullshit they were handing him.

After doing the very successful (in Japan) Final Fantasy Type-0, he got stuck saving the dumpster fire of development hell that XV was, then continuing to support it way past launch since it was clearly rushed out the door, on top of the large amount of DLC they did instead of the quick sequel route XIII took, while also having to develop pretty regular events and crossovers, like the Monster Hunter and Mistwalker ones. Then as he gets to form his new team for a new project, it seems they dumped that THIRD wave of updates that was this upcoming season. I think his new game was always planned to be a new IP, so maybe he figured he'd be better off without the publisher on his ass.

The fact that only Episode Ardyn is coming says a few big things. First, the plan didn't morph into one big expansion instead of the four small ones, we're likely only getting this one as it was the closest to completion because it was first in line. Second, they are really abandoning ship hard. The plan was for three of these episodes to essentially clear up some loose ends and become a new ending to the game, with Episode Aranea being a standalone side episode. Now we are only going to see part one of three, which due to the change in plan might set up MORE lose ends that will never be resolved. Hopefully they reworked it some to take some elements from the canceled episodes and make a cohesive story at least, but the fact they announced another short anime alongside it is making me assume that this is not the case.

This article says the dev team is moving onto an un-named AAA game. I wonder if this situation is happening directly because of the recent announcement that Square-Enix had a bad year financially.

https://www.pcgamer.com/final-fantasy-xv-dlc-plans-canceled-amid-hajime-tabatas-departure/

I still haven't played the current version of XV but I've heard a lot of sentiment hoping that the DLC plan really tied the game together better, but I guess that's all down the drain now. Personally I'm most disappointed the Aranea episode is dead, I really liked her a lot and was looking forward to her being fleshed out more in that DLC.

I'm finally done with Bad Lands on my alt account... Got the 2500 points and a Game Pass code for 1 month!!! Time to contact MS Rewards support. If they ever do something like this again, I won't even bother with it.  :wall:

I’m wondering which would be better/more worth the money between the $328 Samsung 50” (NU6900[nice]) that’s available today, or the Sharp 55” Black Friday door buster for $249.
I’m currently on plain old VCR XBones, though I do have a PS4 Pro (unfortunately XB1X isn’t really in the budget at the moment since we’re hoping to have a baby in the next year or so). I’m not sure if I’ll end up with either, but on the off chance I can upgrade a bit, I was just curious what opinions people had between these two.

Thanks in advance. #Halo

I'd say Samsung off the top of my head

edit: saw you have the PS4pro get the Samsung if it's in reach, get a HDMI hub if you run out of inputs

I'm still meh, but one thing in "S" caught my attention. I most likely will buy Hitman 2 at full price Tuesday after this latest FF XV debacle so square-enix can really not understand what's going on.

The samsung one is a 2018 model. The sharp one is a 2016 model. The samsung tv has 2 hdmi ports.

The sharp tv has 3 2.2hdmi ports. The sharp tv has more ports for various things like digital optical out and 1 2.0 usb port. The samsung tv lacks those ports on the back the sharp tv has. Sharp tv has 60hz refresh rate while samsun has 120 motion rate. Both tv's have HDR but samsung has Purcolor as well.

If you don't mind having a tv with 2 hdmi ports and no component, composite usb, digital optical, or ethernet port then go with the samsung one. Otherwise go with the sharp one.

*edit* the samsung tv does have 1 usb port and ethernet port. I had to click on something else to see actual specs that doesn't match up with best buy's listing just by scrolling down. So basically the samsung tv only lacks component and composite inputs. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Get the samsung tv mate.

Square-Enix is never going to get it and will be lucky to survive on nostalgia. They've bungled Kingdom Hearts so badly since the PS2 and with that much of a Disney license it should of been printing money by now. I'm buying full price Hitman 2 on Tuesday, their latest release was "The Quiet Man"

Does this wink emoji from Humble Bundle finally mean something?

Ok, my turn to jump in on the TV talk since the Best Buy ad is finally out and I’m not all up to date on the specs since I don’t work in electronics anymore. Need some feedback if anyone is willing/able to lend a suggestion or two:
I’m wondering which would be better/more worth the money between the $328 Samsung 50” (NU6900[nice]) that’s available today, or the Sharp 55” Black Friday door buster for $249.
I’m currently on plain old VCR XBones, though I do have a PS4 Pro (unfortunately XB1X isn’t really in the budget at the moment since we’re hoping to have a baby in the next year or so). I’m not sure if I’ll end up with either, but on the off chance I can upgrade a bit, I was just curious what opinions people had between these two.

Thanks in advance. #Halo
I saw them and neither looked too appealing.I preach pragmatism with TVs as well as games. Even with tight finances there's bound to be something better than those. What does TCL have?

I've been warned that being viable for Black Desert Online's endgame requires a serious monetary investment or several years of grinding.

I'm finally done with Bad Lands on my alt account... Got the 2500 points and a Game Pass code for 1 month!!! Time to contact MS Rewards support. If they ever do something like this again, I won't even bother with it. :wall:
Don't do it, unless you're willing to lose the account!!!! My 'free' three month Gamepass code redemption got declined two weeks ago. I reached out to MS Rewards support for assistance...and I was suspended the very next day. 36K points lost.

Honestly, I don't think there will be any problems. If you're just being facetious, my apologies for taking it too it seriously.
That's what I thought, until my account was suspended 24 hours later. At the very least, redeem all of your points before reaching out to MS Rewards.
