Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Hopefully something comes from all these studios and they don’t get the Rare treatment.
I almost wonder if this isn't more of a move on the convergence of the future of xbox as a platform, with the mouse keyboard support, PC Game Pass announced in the earning's call a few weeks ago. I don't see them putting Obsidian to work on a jet skiing game.

Re: Obsidian
Keep in mind that Avellone has been gone for 3 years.
They've still got Josh Sawyer, who was lead on New Vegas and both Pillars of Eternity games. Losing Avellone and others was definitely a blow, but they've got plenty of talent at the studio still. Hopefully MS is able to help make the management less toxic, but it's hard to know if that's really possible without major shakeups (cough Feargus Urquhart cough).

The fact that they bought inXile at the same time is a bit surprising to me, but they are kind of sister studios, and I imagine with the performance of their last few games they were probably not in the best shape financially. It is nice to know that we'll have at least two team capable of making decent RPGs in house, but there will probably be a decent amount of backlash about this. A lot of people still have no faith in Xbox because of the last 10 or so years.

It's going to be very interesting to see how Final Fantasy XIII looks with X enhancements.  The game ran at a horribly low 1024x576 on 360 with really bad video compression on the cinematics and it even had some missing shadow effects.  Digital Foundry may have a decent showdown between the PS3 version (even though it was only 720p) and the X enhanced version.

So how does bc work for multi-disc games? Do you just need the first one?
In most cases yes but if it is a multi disc game that has dlc on disc two you'd use that one to get the dlc licenses and play from

If it's the same 3x3 resolution boost as the other enhanced 360 games we'll be looking at 3072x1728 resolution, plus the increased texture filtering, and forced v-sync (though I'm not sure if tearing was an issue). Most importantly it would probably be able to stay at the framerate cap of 30 instead of drops. I'd guess the the only thing that won't improve is the pre-render cutscenes. It's been a while but I think the majority of cutscenes were actually rendered in real time.

Looking at Digital Foundry's stuff for the other games, it looks like XIII-2 was improved to 720 resolution and had some new techniques that made it look a bit better in general, so that would be full 4K. Lightning Returns only had a review with them, no analysis. Some forums were saying it was at 720 again. Looking at the XIII-2 details it sounds like the shadow thing might have been an issue with the engine, as it was wonky on both platforms for the sequel. I know Assassin's Creed somehow improved the shadows so maybe FF will too.

I'm seeing conflicting info about them being enhanced to begin with though. Most news articles are only saying Civilization Revolution is being enhanced, but I did find two that said all three FF games are too.

I didn't watch the show live, took the kids to The Grinch instead, but it looks like I didn't miss much, 2 more studios but no games yet. E3 2020 is gonna be awesome for Xbox with all these studios.

Wasn't Tales of Vesperia getting a remastered release?
Yeah, but so did Bioshock, Gears of War and others. But those still got BC patches.

But it's still better to just wait for the remastered edition. There is a ton of stuff missing from the 360 version that's in the PS3/remastered editions. Sucks that they changed Yuri's voice actor in the new stuff though.

I bought PUBG last winter. Bought Hellblade and Agents of Mayhem. Have played one round of PUBG. Am I doing this CAG thing correctly?
I bought Agents of Mayhem and Hellblade a while back too. I have no interest in PUBG but I’m glad I paid for AoM and especially Hellblade because it put so much effort in depicting mental illness.

To the people excited to play Final Fantasy XIII finally on the XBox One. I'm sorry.
I don't know, the sequels are worth checking out, especially for those starving for JRPGs. I hope this keeps the dream alive for Nier BC. With all the shakeups at Square-Enix lately who knows what the hell they'll do.

Microsoft has announced that they have acquired the rights to David Hibiki (oops not Monsta Mack) and have purchased my assets from my ex wife.

Therefore I have returned to the thread and to CAG from my long sleep,

Hello everyone!

To me it sounded like the shadows were handled poorly in the first game: "This is in contrast to the scenario laid out in the first game, where the PS3 projected shade in areas where it remained entirely absent on 360, giving it a lighter, pared-back look (owing to an offset shadow bias)."

As for the cutscenes, Digital Foundry says "Square Enix's solution for transitioning the 32GB of [1080p] CG video to DVD is unfortunately rather poor." With copyright protections, each 360 disc only had 6.8GB of space available and Square Enix left 1GB of that empty on each disc. "the [Bink] encoding solution Square has employed collapses horribly. Detail disappears in a sea of macroblocking and banding [on 360], while the PS3 version remains pretty close to pristine" XIII has over 9 hours of cutscenes and 3.5 hours of those cutscenes are prerendered.

So like I said, this will be and interesting case if it is Xbox One X enhanced

The CAG curse had me buy all the sequels before I played the first one. I Don't think I can tolerate any of these characters again. Also looking at my JRPG backlog I got...alot. To show you where I am in my JRPG backlog, I didn't like Kingdom Hearts when I first played it on PS2 yet somehow I have all nine of the games spread from PS3 to PS4. Same with all the "Tales of..." games. JRPG's hate my backlog and I don't need a top 20 list to tell you why (eventhough you'll hate number 13!).

So is there are reason why they put a Crackdown 3: Campaign download on GamePass. It is only 100 mb and it launches nothing.

Technically you don't really have to deal with the characters again, other than Lightning. XIII-2 stars a new guy and a character that had like five lines in 1, with the antagonists being new characters. The one returning character that is in the game a lot is essentially a different person because they aged a lot. In Lightning Returns, Lightning is alone for at least 90% of the game. In both sequels you come across the original party, but it's generally for a single area or quest.

Out of these three, I MIGHT give 1 another try, to at least finish the main story, but I primarily want to do the New Game + for Lightning Returns. I like XIII-2 a lot, but I 100%ed it so I'm not sure I want to go through the whole game again. If it is enhanced I might pop into that save and check out how much better it looks.

Also XIII-2 is a monster recruiting game which is pretty cool. I only got past like the 1st chapter of FF13, but nearly 100%ed 13-2 just because the monster stuff is fun to me.

What if I hated Lightning the most? Basically in the first game she just reminded me of Milla Jovivich or whatever her name is from those awful Resident Evil movies. Just an empty, personality less character that doesn't show an ounce of growth, but HEY LOOK HOW BAD ASS SHE IS. Then again I hated all the characters. ALL OF THEM (well, except maybe the guy who looked like Ludacris, but as a single dad)! Even you manic, pixie girl with spunky attitude! I Hate you! I Don't Diablo mobile game Blizzard fan hate you, but I still hate you.

Yeah, Sazh is the one character everyone generally likes. I think Lightning gets a little better when you see her from a more outside prospective in 2, but she is generally unlikeable. I think it's could have worked if they stuck with her arc from 1, where she's basically just putting on a hardass attitude due to her circumstances in life, but they really went off the rails with the character stories in this series as it went on, and she's pretty much impossible to empathize with.

I mostly ended up sticking with these games because I liked the gameplay and the world/monster design. The other factor was I really came to like Serah in XIII-2, and lets just say the ending of that game made me want to stick with it to see what happened. All three games are have pretty different settings and types of story due to intense time travel nonsense, so at least they don't get stale I guess.

I'm intrigued or at least you gave me less hesitation than I initially had before your thoughts on the 13 sequels. I'm at least not as much "God, why the fuck do I own these", but even than I think JRPG wise after I go through Bravely Default I think either Tokyo Mirage #FES is next or Persona 5. Also I just ordered Ni No Kuni II Premium Edition. I Can't wait to play all these games I own you guys. All of them.

I agree. As long as Microsoft leadership continues to believe in gaming as a strategic investment, they're a force to be reckoned with. Gaming brought in $2.74 billion last quarter which is just over 9% of total sales. Their gross margins are 66%, and the company pulled in $8.8 billion in net income last quarter alone. They've got the resources, and now seem to be serious about succeeding in this market, so there should be good times for Xbox gamers ahead! If exclusives were the last thing Sony could really bring to the table, I doubt that will last much longer.

I am trying to sign up for the 1 month of GP for $1 deal, but when I log in it goes back to $9.99. I see the 6 months for $30. Is the $1 for 1 month targeted? I may have redeemed a similar promotion once before. Anyone else having this problem?

I wonder if it's an issue on their end. Yesterday and earlier today, when I checked, I had the $1 offer when I selected the 1 month option. I didn't buy it yet (waiting for December to do so). But tonight, it says 9.99, just like you. I'm hoping it corrects itself in the next few days.

Ok, this is good to hear. I could have sworn I saw the $1 offer yesterday too. I'll keep an eye out for it, don't need to play those games immediately.

The $1 offer shouldn't be targeted as they have been touting it in tweets and in the stream to hype gamepass.

They also said the offer runs thru early January, I think. I wonder if it can only be used once during that time or if you can use it again once your first use expires. If not, this isn't as good as last year when they offered it at bf then Christmas.

I still don't even see the 6 months for whatever, so yeah I think it's targeted to non long term or whatever subscribers, I got my 3 months last month for free and the 6 months for $30 twice before, so I'm really not someone that should see it.

Interesting article form gameindusty.biz, granted I know have no idea where Superdata pulls their "super data" from, but that's a bit lower than I would expect knowing that PSNOW costs 2x as much and is rarely on sale. Granted install base is probably 3 times as high at this point, but still just over $40 million for gamepass seems low for a quarter, although don't know if Forza Horizon 4 is in there.  It seems Gamepass has been on "sale" every single day to the point I don't even really know what it's real value or price is. Granted with the MS first party stuff it's a no brainer for me and endless stuff added..

Total judgement call, but I think you could find a lot of of enjoyable time in FF13, in fact now that I think about it, there are a ton of similarities between the good, the bad, and the ugly of FF13 and Red Dead Redemption 2. A very Ying/Yang. FF is very linear for 80% but as I played more I felt, this isn't nearly as bad as I was told. RDR2 very open and I felt this isn't nearly as bad as I was told. Brush a horse once in awhile.

I liked FFXIII, really liked FFXIII-2 and quit 3 a few hours in because I hated the time limit they added and feeling like I was having to rush through everything. I like to take my time and explore in these type of games.

What if I'm not excited about it but do it without any good reason while RDR2 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider glare at me?
If the Red Dead Redemption 2 case is glaring at you, you should probably play it on the account that it's somehow gained sentience and is pointing a gun right at you.
